suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I tried whispering Purple at Google Search but nothing happened?!!

Seriously, that really is a very nice colour ;o>

WoW?!! - please send us some of this glorious Weather - we have glimmers of Sun but the Sky is still oppressively and depressingly dull grey in colour. It's stopped raining and the flooding has cleared up somewhat now though so M&D managed to get themselves taken out and about in our Neighbour's Car today.

We have had a rather essential busy Bypass Road just outside of a nearby Village that has been under several feet of Water in places for days now which has meant barely moving bumper-to-bumper Traffic building up on every other Road for miles around.

I don't know how they ever got Planning Permission for this Bypass as it was built on a Flood Plain and apparently has no kind of built-in Drainage System put in place. The Fire Brigade often have to come out and waste their valuable time spending hours siphoning and pumping the Water off elsewhere.

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments This could be a bargain deal for anyone doing an online Morrisons Shop! ;o> ...

They are still selling at £4 reduced from £5 in-store - but it would appear that there might be a glitch in the System on the Morrisons website which has made both of these to only be a £1 each?!! ...

I'd post this up on the 'What A Bargain' Thread - but there was an objection made to the Scone Book Offer I posted up on there as it wasn't anything to do with Music ;o>

Martin O' | 2196 comments A bunch of Pedantic Philistines by the sounds of it Suzy! I no longer shop at Morrisons, we parted ways some years back after a, shall we say, minor contretemps. Their treatment of staff has declined atrociously not to mention how badly customers suffer because of lack of service. Judging purely on our local store of course and I certainly know a lot of people who used to shop there have deserted them. Has anyone tried Sainsbury's haddock fish fingers as an alternative and Young's do a battered variety which are quite tasty? As for the weather, as the old adage goes, "In like a lion, out like a lamb" seems to be holding its course. Although buffeted by strong winds down here locally we have once again missed snow, heavy rain and floods that have battered the rest of Britain. Maybe we are more pious in these parts (he said with a hint of righteous smugness) - God certainly seems to smile on us weatherwise!

Martin wrote: "Has anyone tried Sainsbury's haddock fish fingers as an alternative and Young's do a battered variety which are quite tasty?"

Yep - the Sainsbury's ones are big, aren't they?
If you are also referring to the Young's Gastro fish fingers, I like both varieties that they do.

message 3807: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I tried some of Young's Battered Fish while I was buying to stock up my friend's Freezer - and it really was high up there on a very short List of the freshest, moistest, and most delicious Battered Fish that I have had in many a year ;o>

I could hardly wait to buy and try the Breaded variety - but, to my bewilderment and huge disappointment, they were fluffy-dry in texture and quite tasteless?! ;o<

I really don't understand why this huge difference would be? - but I've not bothered to buy any more Young's Fish Fillets again since then. I experimented instead with trying out, in turn, all of the main Supermarket Brands instead and that was when I came across our favourite Tesco ones.

The very worst of a poor lot of Supermarket Brand ones was a toss-up between Waitrose and Iceland - both of them having tired tasteless 'chewy' Fish (like it had been overcooked and in a Microwave) wrapped in an over-thick and unseasoned tasteless Breadcrumb Coating.

I thought this to be a bit weird, to be honest, as I expected so much more of Waitrose than this - and Iceland have always specialised in Frozen Foods and so I thought that their Fish Range would surely be good.

message 3808: by [deleted user] (new)

The worst fish we have ever had, by a considerable margin, was on Saturday, from the chip shop in the next village. The batter was very brittle and the fish within was chewy beyond compare - very overcooked. It looked alright, otherwise we wouldn't have bought it. Shame really, as the chips were fantastic.

All that we buy from Iceland is their thick sliced seeded loaves of bread (£1 each or 2 for £1.60), grated cheese and their Majestic ice creams, their own equivalent of Magnums.
One of their stores round here also sells duck eggs at a very reasonable £1.79 for half a dozen - cheaper than £2.50 at Morrisons :)

Our oldest Grandson works part-time at one of the Food Warehouse by Iceland stores so we've got three of the supermarkets/stores covered between us :)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Awww, I've just had the most wonderful news! ;o>

One of my Mum's friend's Daughters went through a terrible experience about four years ago. She was fresh out of University (the first in her family to go) when she was accepted and started work in her ultimate idea of a dream job - one that she was SO incredibly thrilled and ecstatically excited about.

It was in an Office environment and she was working as part of a Team with 4 other Girls who had been there for a while and were a few years older than her - and so she looked up them as role models and felt honoured to be made so welcome and to be in such friendly company.

However, things were sadly not as they seemed, and the other Girls clearly had some very dark and disturbing issues going on as they, ohhh so very subtly at first, started to put extra work, and stress, and pressure onto K, while all the time acting all innocent and pretending at friendship that, in reality, simply wasn't there.

K began to slowly buckle and to struggle with the strain of this awful situation - as she just didn't know what to do, or where to turn, or even who to trust in anymore - and then the vicious and almost relentless 'pranking' kicked in.

She had personal things stolen from her Desk and Locker, essential Paperwork that she was responsible for inexplicably go missing, and even had the Paintwork on her (first and very much loved) Car damaged as well. Nasty Emails were circulated to other folk around the Office from her own Work Station at times when she wasn't actually there but, mud sticks, and she found herself becoming increasingly disliked and isolated and alienated from everyone. Management chose to find fault with her as the new Girl and she felt like she just couldn't get anything right by anyone ;o<

She excelled at staying calm and dignified throughout, although utterly bewildered by it all, and bravely stuck it out until she finally reached breaking point and suffered a Nervous Breakdown as a result. While she was in Hospital after taking an Overdose, these Girls still even had the absolute gall to turn up with Flowers and to gush away over her, lying there in her Bed, about their horror and disgust over what she was going through?!

She had to resign for the sake of her own sanity and well-being - but her Mum and all of her real friends kept on urging her to not just give up and let this terrible experience go and not to keep on with questioning and turning all of the blame in on herself as she was left doing. I went all around Pinterest and collected together lots of quotes and stories that I used to send to her by Email to keep on encouraging to see through to the truth of it all and to stop her from trying to take responsibility for what those cruel and devious Girls had done and had put her through.

She finally decided to get advice and to see it through and got herself a wonderful Legal Team who then uncovered proofs and evidence of all sorts of activities that these Girls had been involved in over the years. And although it was well over a year on by then, K's Handbag and Smart Phone were recovered from the Boot of one of the Girl's Car along with some other stolen Work Place items ... including a significant amount of Petty Cash!

It has taken 3 years to get here but K has won her Case and been awarded significant damages by the Company who have already sacked all of the Girls involved. She has also received Flowers, Letters of support and sincere apologies from some of her other Work Colleagues during this last few months as well - and it has all proved to be such a positive and healing experience for her.

Last year, she took her courage in both Hands and set herself up in Business - and it has taken off so well that she now has two fantastic Employees and is about to advertise for two more ... and I just couldn't be more thrilled for her and proud of her ;o>

YAYYY!!! - for all good guys!!! ... and BOOO!!! - to all beastly Bullies!!! ;o>

message 3810: by [deleted user] (new)

Well done to K managing to overcome that horrible experience and turn things around to make herself a success - long may it continue for her :)

message 3811: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I'm just SO happy and SO proud of her!!! ;o>

It very nearly all but destroyed her and all of this time since, while I've been keeping on with supporting and encouraging her, deep down I've been asking myself if I could/would be as brave as K if I was in her Shoes? I'd really like to think so? - but if I'm absolutely honest with myself then I'm not sure?

She often felt like she just couldn't get away from or carry on with living after what happened. There was also other stuff going on that added to her going through Hell - and just some of the knock-on effects were having to give up on all of her previously hoped-for Career plans and expectations (as she was left pretty much virtually unemployable through deceitful and malicious word of mouth following her around) and having to give up on her lovely first Flat and move back Home again.

She has come such a long way in such a short space of time and it is wonderful to pick up the Phone and hear her all happy and excited and laughing again ;o>

I don't know if vet Chris Brown is known in the UK but he seems to have a big following in the US. He does a lot on telly here - not just vet shows, he's also one of the hosts of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me...." and a Sunday night variety show. I don't watch any of them but he still seems like a nice, and very grounded, bloke. He recently started up this animal story website. It has some lovely stories and photos:

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Well, according to our News Reports, the guy with the Mouse reckons it might be trying to cover up and hide the Peanuts that he buys for the Bird Feeders in his Garden and sometimes keeps in the old Ice Cream Tub? - but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out to be a Female trying to nest-build before having Babies!

He could wander into his Shed and be in for quite a big surprise one day soon?!! ;o>

I don't watch Celebrity TV Shows, so I'm not sure if Chris Brown is known over here. I also tend to avoid all Animal Shows as well - as every time I get into watching anything good it invariably suddenly ends up with a horrific life and death battle and I can't cope with anything that ends up in being heartbreaking - LOL!!! ;o>

I'll take a look at that Link tomorrow. It's just gone a quarter past one here now and so I'd best gently ease Tia off my Knee and make sure that Mitz is comfy and fast asleep too before quietly sneaking off to Bed.

I'm actually going out tomorrow?!! - YAYYY!!! ... to get my Hair cut! - LOL!!! ... well, anything is always better than nothing at all, isn't it? ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments My timing is perfect too! ... I'm finally off out today, even if it is only just for an hour max, and I got into Bed last night, stretched out and ... SNAP! ... something went in my Right Knee ;o<

It's kept me awake all night and I can barely weight bear on it today - which is the very last thing I needed as I HAVE to have my Hair cut. It's so long now that I've got to part my Fringe or tie it back just to see where I'm going! - LOL!!!

Ahhh well, it can't be helped - it is probably another Ligament giving up and calling it a day ... and if I was back going to the Pool again then this kind of muscular injury might have been preventable and avoided. I've had more than enough heavy duty Painkillers to stun an Elephant and my Leg is going to stay all strapped up in my night-time Leg Immobiliser Brace for a few days.

Wish me luck at the Hairdressers! - LOL!!! - as I've no idea yet how I am going to get myself into my Neighbour's Car or as to how they are going to best manage me in the Salon like this, but needs must! ;o>

Lez | 7490 comments It’s about 5 years old, so no guarantee. Luckily it had completed the cycle and I hadn’t been in the same room till I went to take the clothes out so I don’t know at what stage the leakage happened. It’s probably something simple like a loose hose. There’s no urgency as I don’t need to use it very often and I know a lovely reliable handyman/electrician who’s done various jobs for me.

Just what you didn't need, Lez :(

It's not something easily remedied like a loose pipe on the back or backflow through the waste pipe?

Nah! - let's go with I've knackered my Knee so that you don't have to?!! ;o>

It's been a while since this happened, mainly because I haven't been active, but it happened almost continually when I was a Kid - although I hadn't got a clue why at the time and rarely ever thought to mention it to anyone.

It'll keep on hurting, then start with seizing up and locking for a while before gradually settling back down to just being it's usual unstable self again. I just really could-of done without it today, that's all ;o>

I washed and conditioned my Hair in the Shower, like I usually do before going, as then I don't have to try to cope with someone else doing it in an awkwardly positioned Back Wash Sink ... so you'd think that I'd be able to claim at least a fiver back as payment for my own Shampooing Services, wouldn't you? - LOL!!! ;o>

message 3831: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments I usually only had my hair cut at a salon and the first time I booked a set I was horrified when I realised I’d have to lean backwards, I cancelled and went back to just cuts. My sister always washes hers at home too, but she’s only a few hundred yards from her hairdressers.
I never understood it, surely people didn’t lean back at home?
Anyway it’s now been proved it can be risky.

“There’s evidence that leaning your head back to get shampoo-ed at the salon could actually cause major damage to your neck. Lying your head back in this position on a hard surface can cause tearing in your neck’s arteries, which can lead to blood clots, and even death. While it’s rare for this to happen — and more of an issue for those who smoke, have high blood pressure or diabetes, or are at a high-risk for stroke — make sure you have a towel under your head and neck when you get your hair washed, or better yet, encourage your salon to invest in specialized cushions that are designed to protect this sensitive area.”

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I have got a bit of thing about cut Hair resting on my Skin afterwards - and I get increasingly desperate as it dries to get Home, get straight back in the Shower, and to wash it all off.

It doesn't help much that unfortunately my Hairdresser is one of the messiest cutters that I've ever had to deal with. I try not to let on that I flip out inside when I get directed to Chair that still has obvious bits of someone else's Hair stuck to it, and when she only puts a partial Cape cover over me with a few odd strands attached ... but once she is done I just want out of the Salon and to get Home in record time to rush upstairs, rip all my Clothes off, and dive into the Shower!

It stresses me out so much afterwards if I have to sit around and wait that it kind-of verges on becoming an obsessional/phobic response in me. I start to itch and twitch and feel panicked if we get stuck in any heavy Traffic coming back as it usually takes half an hour to get Home as it is. It took us 47 minutes today and I was counting every single second of the journey Home - LOL!

In fact ... I'm actually sat here shuddering as I type this out!

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Lez wrote: "I never understood it, surely people didn’t lean back at home?"

It's a bit different in washing your own Hair over a Sink to having it washed by someone else though, isn't it? I mean logically it makes more far sense to lean back and let the person who is washing your Hair take your Head in their Hands and then wash and condition your Hair keeping it away from hanging all over your Face?

I have heard about the issues and health risks with Back Wash Sinks - and indeed I have been left in considerable pain a few times by less experienced Juniors and Students who are usually the ones who are delegated to do all of the Hair washes. They sometimes forget to be careful and lean against or down on the Sink which then pushes it down onto the Shoulders. Me being left in pain afterwards though may be far more down to the severity of Osteoarthritis that I have in my Neck, Shoulders and Spine.

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Yes, but you also have to factor that we are talking about M&S and so it's to be expected that any Cake from them will automatically be a bit more expensive - and that it will be a Cake that might well have cost them around £15 for all of it's Ingredients (even at trade prices) ... and then someone will have had to have spent some time and effort on it's assembly and in finishing it all off by Hand to create it's decoration and finished presentation ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments There is no way though that two similar sized Cakes can claim to serve either 24 or 40 people though. This idea stems from the commercial catering concept that Cake is only just supposed to be a little something to be shared out and tasted in tiny sample sections - which, of course, is not how most folk actually serve up far more generous and genuinely celebratory pieces of Cake to each other ;o> ...
