I'll try anything once :)

Do I have to sign a disclaimer first?

message 3552: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It might be a good idea as you certainly won't be able to hold a Pen for some time afterwards ;o>

You'll also have to try and catch her first ... and I'd allow about 2 hours just for that alone, if I were you! - LOL!!!

message 3553: by [deleted user] (new)

That'll be a first - a dog running away from me instead of the other way round! :)

message 3554: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments If I hold her tight for as long as I can then it might just give you a head start? ;o>

message 3555: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Well, Tee seems to be much better and brighter in herself today and has enthusiastically eaten all her Meals without needing any encouragement - and Mitz is pretty much back to being her usual busy dizzy little self as well ;o>

We are still continuing between us to watch over her 24 hours a day - and are currently waiting on poo number 2! - as she appears to be in absolutely no hurry whatsoever to oblige us.

suzysunshine7 wrote: "If I hold her tight for as long as I can then it might just give you a head start? ;o>"

Right; I think I'm far enough away - you can let her go now :)

message 3557: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Ohhh great! - so you have both run off to hide in different directions?!! - now what?!! ;o>

message 3558: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Well, what a night! ... Moo was in and out and out and in, restless and agitated and barking at the Moon ... until FINALLY at 7am we had poo number 2!!! Again not one of her best efforts but acceptable.

We are all utterly exhausted, she has passed out fast asleep on the Sofa, and we are walking around looking like zombies and trying to get jobs done!

I don't think I can stand another 2 to 3 days of now waiting on number 3?!! ;oO

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments A distinctly dull, heavily overcast, damp and cold day - and it's getting quite dark out there already. It's not often that the Weather Forecast is spot-on for around here but they certainly got it right today ...

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments A nice and healthy but also a quick and easy Tea - as we haven't been eating properly or at the right times for some days now and are all far too tired to care much about Food and Mealtimes, thanks to a certain little hairy woofer needing so much care and attention!

Chicken & Veg Pasta with Fresh Fruit Salad & Yoghurt for Pud - Yummy! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments A cool dull grey day again - Ohhh, where did all that lovely warm Sun go? ;o<

Two bright, barky and bouncy little hairy woofers have been doing their very best to make up for lost time by repeatedly duffing each other up since 5am! - although Mitz keeps remembering to play the invalid card and jumping on my Knee for sanctuary whenever Tia starts winning - LOL!!! ;o>

message 3562: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments glad they're both keeping better just now.

yes, the heatwave is past here - back to the miserable grey sky spitting fine rain that we're happiest with! och aye!

message 3563: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Well, as depressing as it looks outside it could always be far worse, couldn't it?

It was around this time last year that my Dad slipped on the ice and fell in all of the heavy Snowfall on our Driveway - and we needed help from Neighbours to get him up and back indoors again.

It's about the same here, though yesterday was still bright even if not quite as warm as it has been. Rain was forecast for both yesterday and today but hasn't materialised - I feel cheated! :)

Good to hear that Tia and Mitz are having a good day - hopefully that gives you a lift as well :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I keep forgetting to ask did you finally get that Car you were waiting on?

message 3569: by [deleted user] (new)

I gave up on that car - they called as promised on the day I went in, but failed to update me the day after so I went in and asked for my deposit back. I had already made clear to them that I had been messed around enough.
Any plans for a new car have been put aside for now as other more important things are demanding our attention at the moment.

message 3570: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Awww, that's such a shame - but, as you say, there is always a hundred and one other important things all needing to be sorted out and attended to.

And the next time you go Car hunting you might find something better and at an even more amazing bargain of a price? ;o>

Mitz has been re-introduced to just a little of the wet and the dry Dog Food with her Chicken and she seems fine so far ... (*Fingers crossed*) ... and Mum and me are still going to keep up the 24 hour watch on her for at least another night and day to see how she gets on with the additions to her Diet.

Tia has had another lovely day too - which has made my day as well ;o>

I'm not sure if anyone else on here is a keen Baker? - or has a family member or friend who is? - but I have just bought myself a Book that caught my Eye the other day ...

National Trust Book of Scones: Delicious recipes and odd crumbs of history

I bought it off ... https://agreatread.co.uk/the-national... ... where it is currently selling at the bargain price of £3.99 inc p&p ... and if you use a Code that is being shared out amongst the Clandestine Cake Community online to take a further 10% off it ends up in only costing £3.59.

It could be a rather nice Easter or a Birthday gift or perhaps be given as a Secret Santa or a Stocking Filler for next Christmas? ;o>

The Code to get the extra 10% off is ... CLANDESTINE ... and can be applied to any of the Cookery/Baking Books on the Website by typing it into the 'Coupon Code' Box. There is no minimum spend required to use the Code and it will remain valid until 31/03/19.

EDIT : A couple of folk on Facebook say that ... CLANDESTINE ... in capital letters didn't work for them but ... Clandestine ... or ... clandestine ... did. So, if it doesn't work straightaway like it did for me, then it may work by trying out different ways of typing it in ;o>

Thanks for the book recommendation Suzy. I have bought baking books from your old Zon wish list and they were great. I see the National Trust does one on crumbles too.

I'm currently enjoying

It's very basic common-sense cooking but it's still given me some inspiration.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I've started to do a bit of tidy-up on my Wish Lists on Amazon, Val, as I realised recently that I rarely use them anymore now that the Forums have finished.

It still makes me feel sad when I go into my Profile Page and start to remember all of the Product sharing recommendations and all of the laughs that I had with so many wonderful friends across so many Forums and Threads ... Ahhh well, it was such great fun while it lasted, wasn't it? ;o>

I shall have a look at ... Five go Feasting: Famously Good Recipes ... although I'm still struggling with trying to thin out my Bookcase and to keep it like that! - LOL!!!

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments An overcast off-white Sky has suddenly parted in the last half hour to reveal ... pale blue Sky and the odd hint of Springtime Sun ;o>

Moo 'went' FOUR times between 2pm and 7am this Morning!!! And I don't know who was more surprised by that, her or us, but she seems to be getting back to being her old self again and it is wonderful to see her tucking in and enjoying her (still restricted) Meals and hurling around the House and Garden once more.

There is apparently a lot of duffing-up sessions to be caught up on and they are both now busy in going all out on making up for lost time ... bless 'em! ... x

message 3582: by [deleted user] (new)

So now you'll be able to ease back on your vigil and actually get some rest yourselves?

The sun has just decided to put in an appearance here as well. We have had some rain - just as I had to get out of the cab to change trailers. As soon as I got back in the cab, soaking wet, it stopped raining. Typical! :)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments I love the mainly silent conversations that go on between our two little hairy woofers ;o>

Tia walks up to Mitz on their Bed in the Lounge and her Face says ... "So? - are you well today?" ... and Mitz rolls her Eyes as if to say ... "Well, I've been better but I'm not too bad" ... and Tia's Eyes flash as if to say ... "Good enough for me - GAME ON!" and then she dives on top of Mitz and tries to get her in a Headlock! - LOL!!!

Suzy, I don't know if you read the reviews on Amazon, but the 1 star, 3 star and one of the 4 star reviews all commented on how the proportion of flour to milk seemed out. One reviewer said all the recipes started with 500g of flour and another said he/she had to adjust the milk from 140ml to 190ml. You might want to check for yourself. Another book called The Secret Life of Scones got excellent reviews but it is quite a bit more expensive.

message 3586: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments You are just like me! - I always like to have a good look around the Internet and read up on all the Reviews that I come across before I buy anything, Val ;o>

No-one on Facebook has complained (as yet!) and many of them have been very busy in working their way through the Book over the last fortnight.

It might well be that a bit of experience plays a part in knowing if the Dough Mix really is just right or whether less Flour and more Milk could do with being added? Lots of folk are currently posting up their own impressive result pictures and saying how good the Scones are - but no-one has yet mentioned any need to tweak any of the Recipes so far and so I thought I'd buy it all the same and see what all of the Facebook fuss and excitement is about - LOL!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Between you, me and the Gatepost, I really don't need a Book on baking Scones - although I'll obviously swear blind that I absolutely do if M&D get to the Door before me on delivery day! ... HA HA HA HA HA!!!

It just triggered off a wonderful episode of nostalgia for me as I don't think that anyone else has ever managed to make Scones as delicious and light and as utterly fantastic as my beloved Nan's were ;o>

I SO wish that I had paid far more attention as a young child to exactly how she made them - she was always SO incredibly quick at doing it that if you so much as blinked you missed it and they were already in Oven! - and she never ever weighed out any of the Ingredients either.

I think that she used Buttermilk from choice, but when she was improvising at our House with whatever we had in, then it might possibly have been Milk soured by a little Vinegar?

message 3588: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22176 comments Like you, my granny made the most amazing scones and I never saw her measure anything. She just knew. I could swear she used Holsum which is a solid vegetable fat:

http://hudsonandknight.co.za/holsum-s...

message 3589: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments My mum also made fabulous scones, no measuring and I think she used Trex vegetable fat. The local handyman would call round when he was in our road, ostensibly to see if she had any jobs for him but really hoping there were scones available.

message 3590: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Mar 02, 2019 06:30AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Interesting - I wish I could remember what my Nan used? I think from her own choice it would probably have been Butter or maybe a half and half mix using Lard (she always loved using Lard ;o>) - but, at our House, it could of been Vegetable Fat or Margarine as we mainly tended to have a block of 'Trex' and a block of 'Stork' in the Fridge for whenever I suddenly fancied having a bit of a Baking Session ...

message 3591: by suzysunshine7 (new)

M&D are both feeling run-down and suffering from what sounds like Flu-like symptoms and I've been fighting with a really nasty non-stop Headache since yesterday Lunch-time - so none of us felt like Cooking today or like having anything else for Tea.

Tia snook upstairs an hour ago, very quietly crept in so as not to disturb me too much, and so thoughtfully and generously placed half of her Bonio on my Bed next to me - presumably just in case I suddenly start to feel hungry later on?! ... Bless her beautiful little furry Boots! ... x ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments Ohhh, thank Heavens for Takeaway Telephone technology! ;oO ...

Dad : "Hello, it's me ... is that our Chinese Takeaway?"

Takeaway : "It is! - Hello Mr ***"

Dad : "We want the usual ... Errr? - what do we have? Ohhh, and Chips please?"

Takeaway : "No problem, that will be two House Special Chow Meins, one Beansprouts, one Mushrooms and one Chips, Mr ***"

Dad : "Do we want Mushrooms? ... Ohhh, Margaret says yes we do, so yes, we do definitely want Mushrooms ... and Chips as well"

Takeaway : "It will be ready in 10 minutes, Mr ***"

Dad : "Ohhh good ... Margaret is coming now ... How long will it be?"

Takeaway : "10 minutes, Mr ***"

Dad : "With Chips?"

Takeaway : "With Chips, Mr ***, 10 minutes"

Dad : "Thank you ... Don't forget the Chips, will you?"

Takeaway : "We won't forget the Chips and we'll see Margaret in 10 minutes"

Dad : "Okay. Bye"

I'm SO glad the Takeaway knows who Dad is and what he always orders ... and they have never ever forgotten to include the Chips either! ;o>

Lez | 7490 comments It’s great when people know who you are. I use a local taxi firm to go anywhere and I only have to say “Hello” when they ask me where and when and thank me by name.
One of our Pakistani ladies used to borrow her books for a few weeks at a time and always phoned to renew them. She never said her name or any book details, just “Hello, today last day”. Luckily we knew who she was and only had to flick through a few Urdu book-cards. It was a nice relationship.

suzysunshine7 | 16062 comments It certainly is - and they are always very good with my Dad on the Phone ;o>

He can get very agitated at times. I didn't even know he was on Phone the other day until he came upstairs and virtually threw the Cordless at me and stomped off without saying anything?!!

It turned out to be SAGA Home Insurance and he had been getting very confused and annoyed with them because he wanted them to put an Online Quote he had found on the M&S Website into an Envelope and post it to him! Luckily the Lad that he was speaking too was extremely kind and very understanding - despite apparently struggling with trying his best to calmly and patiently explain to my Dad why he couldn't do this for almost 20 minutes.

He also told me that my Dad had not only given him his Email Address but also given him his Inbox Account Password too (I've tried and tried to explain but he still keeps on doing this!) - so I knew that I needed to go online straightaway to change it to something else ;oO
