Sounds like you've had a right night of it - again!

I've gone through a mug of tea an hour since getting up at half past seven but can't get anywhere near the bathroom as Mrs Grizzly is in the middle of her weekly cleaning blitz.
Good job it doesn't go straight through me :)

The laundry is drying quite nicely - when the breeze drops it's actually fairly warm here today. Third lot of laundry about to go out on the line, once the washing machine has landed :)

Don't even go there with the washing line!
Such a simple thing, you'd think - buy a washing line, fit a washing line.
I started off in Tesco - no washing lines there. This was followed up with B&M, the Original Factory Shop and Poundstretchers, all with no luck. I ended up in Dunelm where the only ones they had were 40M.
OK, that'll do - it means that I can just use one line then instead of the two I had been using. Next step was, this morning, to take down the one remaining washing line so I could put the new one up and, of course, I couldn't get it undone at one end. Problem solved with a pair of snips. That just left me with the task of unwinding the new one and securing it at three points.
Now, I'm not the most patient of people and have zero tolerance with inanimate objects so, when I had to try and untangle it with by then numb fingers - I'm called grump for a reason!

Ah well, it's all sorted now :)

You probably didn’t see my post last year about the ‘Feu’ directives up here when we first came:
It was only in 2000 that Scotland abolished the Feu (like leasehold) system!
When we moved here there was a long list of regulations including:

Only twirly clothes-lines allowed.
Only one dog per household but you could have 2 cats.
No rabbits.
No ‘exotic’ pets.
No garden fires.
No cars parked on the road.

I quite like twirly clothes-lines but you do need a ginormous one for a kingsize duvet cover!

message 3355: by [deleted user] (new)

Twirly sounds much better than rotary, Lez :)

There was a twirly in the back garden when we moved in, but when I tried to open it up it just fell apart. It's now lurking behind the shed in the corner of the garden.
We actually prefer a normal washing line as it's much easier to hang the bedsheets on, especially super king-size :)

I do remember seeing your post because the conversation then went on to whether 'Feu' was derived from Feudal, and I'm sure there was also a question about what would be classed as an exotic pet :)

We are very lucky as we still have an old-fashioned family-run Hardware Shop in almost all of the Villages around here. And there is a couple of Wilkos too and they are only a few miles away. I often use their free Click&Collect service to guarantee that I won't have a wasted journey.

message 3357: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments One good thing about twirlies is that you can have them near the house so if it rains you don’t have to run the length of the garden with a laundry basket! You can even throw a cover over the whole caboodle.

Run?
Had to look that one up :)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I've always been intrigued by those pictures you see of Italian Buildings with moveable Washing Lines strung up across from one side to the other.

I don't think I fancy sharing the close-up sight of all that Laundry so intimately with all of my close Neighbours though?!! Some things, like Underwear, are surely better left unseen and also unimagined as well! ;o>

message 3360: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Feb 19, 2019 05:33AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments I'd never get that much on a Twirly and it would take absolutely ages to dry as well.

We mainly put out Double Duvets and their Covers and lots of large Bathsheets - some of them being ours and some of them being Dog Bedding.

All small Items, including Underwear, just go straight into the Tumble Drier as they would probably end up taking almost as much time to peg them all up and out as they would to dry - and so I really can't be bothered with wasting any of my limited time and energy/strength in doing it ;o>

We don't do badly for shops and facilities here - there's the 'only when you're completely desperate' cornershop, a Post Office, a Chemist, two car sales places, the garage where our cars go for MOT, the medical practice, one pub, a chip shop/Chinese takeaway and let's not forget the Tea Room :)

I am loathe to go into Peterborough city centre unless I really have to so normally go to the retail areas of the surrounding towns.
Even better for me is doing the shopping on my way home from work as Sainsburys is only half a mile from the depot :)

And I don't want to see any saggy greying Y-Fronts with fraying Seams and dodgy Elastic whilst sat outside enjoying a Coffee - and then not being able to stop myself from picturing my Neighbours wearing them! ... ARRRGGGHHH!!! ... HA HA HA HA HA!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments Wilko almost became my Home from Home, and my first and foremost as well as favourite go-to Place when I was suddenly presented with having to buy so many basic but essential fittings and furnishings (of very good quality yet at affordable prices) for my friend's old, and then his new, Flat.

He literally just sat there and pretty much left it all up to me to work out as to what was needed/wanted, source it all and then also pay for it as well ;o<

But it had to be done as everything wasn't going to just miraculously do it all by itself - and although it was incredibly exhausting and such unbelievably hard work for me - it also turned out to be some of my proudest and most immensely satisfying few years of my life in seeing it all slowly come together and look so good too ;o>

I'd never used a Wilko before and it was only just 5 minutes away (well, 3 minutes probably, but I walk much more slowly these days) and I was SO impressed by it and SO grateful for it being there.

At M&D's now, I need to get a Lift or take a 20 minute Bus Ride and then take a short walk to get near to either one of the two Wilkos that we have around here - one near Stockport Town Centre and one in Wythenshawe - but I still enjoy shopping there whenever I need to and can.

I’m lucky to be really private here, I can’t see into either of my neighbours’ gardens from downstairs. However one of them uses some foul smelling sickly-sweet fabric conditioner which wafts over to me when it’s windy. Ugh!

message 3366: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16052 comments It's pretty hard to manage (should you want to) to see much into any other folk's Gardens around here as well as we all have so much greenery and there are so many Trees around here.

I know I would struggle and be extremely unhappy if I ever had to live in a Town or a City where I can't ever get to see any green spaces and if I had to live somewhere where all of my, and my Neighbour's, Washing was regularly left strung up between the Balconies and the Buildings.

I NEED my privacy - my very own bit of a grass, a few Trees and Bushes, and a secluded and secure Patio area to sit out on - just as much as I need to breathe air to stay alive ;o>

message 3367: by [deleted user] (new)

Despite neighbours all around, we do have a fair degree of privacy (especially now the new fence is up) but, even so, the way I have the washing line set up in a triangular pattern allows us to put underwear on the shortest side which runs between two points of the house.
Anybody wanting to look at what is on that part of the line would have to either be in the back garden or be hanging over the fence. The only downside is that the view from our kitchen window on laundry day is, literally, pants :)

message 3369: by [deleted user] (new)

We've reached that point where the temperature is starting to drop now so a couple of towels from the last load of laundry are going in the tumble dryer for ten minutes - not bad from four big loads :)

Looking at the weather forecast, the bedding will have to wait until Thursday as tomorrow is looking gloomy.

We used to go to the cinema at Kettering nearly 20 years ago now and used to grab a meal at the Australian themed restaurant that used to be there. Don't know if you were living round there at that time but, if you were, can you remember what that place was called?

I looked it up and both the main supermarket chains here have it listed but both say "Temporarily unavailable". britishsweets.com.au have it for £4.00 and who knows what shipping costs are so I won't be bothering. I'll stick with my Branston Pickle (with either ham or cheese) which is readily available. Although I have recently been enjoying

I didn't know Bovril came in cubes. We still buy and use Oxo cubes although they are rather heavy on the salt. I do love the liquid Bovril on toast.

My younger daughter recently explained to me that Oxo cubes are designed to be crushed first and then opened. After all these decades of doing it wrong, it now makes perfect sense.
