"Love is ... celebrating your Birthday on the day that your Wife thinks it is"

I honestly don't know quite where my Head is right now?

I mean I do obviously know that it's gone New Year and that it is January - but my Head isn't really connecting and getting into gear with it yet?

I think that I'd better get my 2019 Calendar out and start filling it in and see if that helps?!!

Do ring ahead though, Duke, as I'm not sure if they are allowed to accept if you just walk into your nearest local Charity Shop and try to donate any Alcohol over the Shop Counter to them?

We take our unwanted Bottles of Booze to drop off at the Admin Offices or into the Reception Areas of the Charities that we support - and they are always very grateful and delighted to take them off our Hands ;o>

I was just thinking along those lines myself, Isabella, but I know where that would lead ........ "You've already had one Birthday this year!!" :)

And after the year when Mrs Grizzly totally forgot (which became MY fault, obviously) ...... no, it's the quiet life for me, thanks :)

Yeh..i kinda thought that the idea of just walking into my local branches of charities and handing over a bottle of an highly alcoholic spirit, might not be typically expected.

"Hi...i got this for you, any local alcoholics you know of, in need of a top up?!"

I see if there is a more appropriate way of donating booze, me thinks.

Whaddaya mean?

I get Mrs Grizzly to check for spelling mistakes before posting, and to make sure I've got the facts right :)

Some of our Daffodils are shooting up well in the front garden, probably won't be long before they start blooming.

Amazing how the orchestra followed Nora's notes throughout...given that cats have no concept of music! I expect Nora just liked the vibrations on the keys, given how she was rubbing her little head on the ivories! :) Cute!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Twelfth Night will be on Monday in our House! ;o>

Mum is only up to halfway through the making of an epic Trifle-to-trump-all-Trifles and I could quite happily leave the Trees and Lights up until Summer if M&D would ever allow for it ... and so we have all compromised on deciding that Monday Night is to be Twelfth Night this year ;o>

Is that trifle ready yet?

And, are you taking down the tree and decorations before you sample the trifle? :)

message 2881: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Yes, the Jelly has set, and the Custard has been made, has cooled and been layered on - it just needs the Cream whipping and spreading over the top.

Sadly, we won't be enjoying it after having a proper sit-down meal tonight though. The painful and cruel reality of living with someone with Dementia is that they can often be persistently unpleasant, uncooperative with loved ones and prone to temper tantrums. My Dad has been increasingly agitating and simmering away all through Christmas and so my Mum and me have been ever so carefully walking on Eggshells around him for weeks now.

Today though everything pretty much blew up from first thing this morning and it has been an extremely long and absolutely exhausting day of continually trying to contain and defuse his spontaneous nonstop explosive rages.

To all our relief, he has just stomped off and put himself to Bed - however it means the plan to have a lovely quiet and cosy family meal together is obviously not going happen now. My poor Mum has been through more than enough today, and I've had to try and keep up with the tidying up all of the messes he has been making and am now in far too much pain to cope with cooking anything, so I'm going to order us both a nice Takeaway to share with a couple (or more!) of very large and very welcome Port & Lemons instead!

It's unfortunately not exactly been the easiest or the best start to the New Year - but we still miraculously have our darling Tia with us, and she is still doing really well too, so I feel we really have been very blessed indeed ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments HA HA HA HA HA!!! - I bet you wish you hadn't asked now - LOL!!! ;o>

It's just been one of those days today - and a nice Takeaway, a treat of our current favourite tipples, some decent TV, and a bit of a laugh over a lovely cuddle with our adorable little hairy woofers will soon cheer us up and set us right again ;o>

P Cobb | 580 comments Suzy, if you haven't reached this stage of dementia with your pops yet, then I hope you never experience the accusations of stealing from him. This is so hurtful, unjust and leads to arguments galore. A truly dreadful disease that impacts on those closest to the sufferer deeply. I wish you well in coping with it.

Well, not quite the answer I was expecting!

Hope you all have a better day today :)

message 2885: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh P? ... x ... you poor, poor love! ... x ;o<

No, I just continually get the angry silent treatment - I think he's probably only actually spoken more than one word (yes or no) to me about 5 or 6 times over the last year and that's very sadly how it's been between us for about 5 years now. He has always been a rather difficult and an extremely challenging man and sadly the Heart Attacks and then several Strokes have all contributed to him mentally turning in on himself and suffering now from the effects of Oxygen Deprivation and Brain Damage.

He suddenly decides he wants to do something, start doing it in the most elaborately disorganised, confused and chaotic way, and then he will simply wander off and starts doing something else completely different in another Room - and it was just utter chaos here with both the Christmas Trees, the tangled strings of Lights, and the Cards all scattered about everywhere yesterday.

If you dare to try to help or to surreptitiously try to make things tidier or safer he instantly gets defensive and you get yelled at and called all sorts of nasty stuff. The rest of the time he just wanders around in a world of his own seemingly not noticing or listening to anything or anyone and almost obsessively carrying around and filling in the latest Newspaper Crossword. And he has to always have a Teaspoon in his Pocket for some reason? - he never actually uses it for anything but he just has to have one.

He's very quiet today and is currently off out with my Mum - she takes him shopping and leaves him all set up in the Café with a Coffee and a couple of Newspapers while she pretty much has to race all around the Store to get done. He isn't a typical Dementia sufferer - it is far more issues with confused logic and personality changes with him. He may wander off to the Loo or decide to do some shopping too and then she has to try and find him but he won't ever wander out of the Store or forget who he is.

I don't want to put my Mum into a position where she ever feels like she has to choose between being out with Dad or with me or trying to cope with us both - and so I stay here and she takes him out every day instead. It's a rather sad situation, but it is what is, and we try to make the best of it.

Lez | 7490 comments What an awful situation. Until I read your last post I was wondering about possible respite care for your dad for a couple of weeks, but it sounds as though it wouldn’t be suitable for his particular condition. I’m so sorry for you and your mum, specially given your own physical problems.

I will be making a cottage pie later, when Phoebe decides to get off my shoulder - she used to like curling up round my neck or even trying to roll upside down without falling off, but stopped doing it. Now, all of a sudden, she has taken to jumping on my shoulder but not curling up, instead sitting bolt upright.
I'm sure she thinks she's a parrot! :)
