If that's the case, I'll stick a wad of cash on there being a White Christmas and we'll split the winnings :)

An Executive Decision has been made in our household - Mrs Grizzly has rather generously declared that I have permission to take her Christmas shopping next week.
I'm just waiting now to be told where I am allowed to take her for said spree :)

I think I'll be getting myself out and about soon - but, if the Weather does turn and stay nasty, then I might just be needing to borrow a Chauffeur and Shopping Bag Carrier?

It can Snow after 7pm on Christmas Eve and through till Boxing Day - but I may be wanting to go look around some of the Sales after that and so I expect for most of the Roads and Pavements to stay clear ;o>

How's about a two for one offer?
One Chauffeur/Pack Donkey (I can carry up to twenty shopping bags for hours, all without the aid of a Yorkie bar) and one Professional Crowd Parter whose tongue is sharper than her elbows :)

It's only 68 Days and 8 Hours and 5 Minutes now until Christmas! ... LOL!!! ;o>"
As I was walking to the station this morning I noticed that the Christmas lights are already up. To the council's credit, at least they're not switched on yet.
Virgin's seat reservation procedures seem particularly weird today. My reserved seat is right next to the only other reserved seat in the carriage. I've sat in a non-reserved one instead. The person in the other reserved seat is now talking loudly on the phone, so I think I made a good decision.
Suzy, my dad is also on apixaban and doesn't seem to be having any problems with it. Was your dad's warfarin interacting with something?

What a fantastic deal!!! ... but only just the twenty shopping bags? ... we really must look into getting you a Shoulder Yoke so that you can carry more in future! ;o>

Hiyah Gordon! ;o> ... I hope that you are there or at least nearly there yet? I haven't been out anywhere to notice if Christmas is arriving around here - but I have noticed that there are Christmas Films running on quite a few of the TV Channels already although I'm not in the habit of watching them myself.
Maybe Virgin decided to put you next to the noisy person so you could teach them a lesson on how to conduct and to behave themselves better in public? ... well, that's the excuse I'd go with in Court? ... once the Hospital Team have successfully managed to surgically retrieve their Phone! ... HA HA HA HA HA!!! ;o>
Dad has been on Warfarin since days of his first, and most major, Stroke back in 2013. It seems to have served it's purpose but it was decided that he'd reached the end of any usefulness to be gained for it - and his INR levels have always been wildly erratic and never been stable.
He is almost permanently covered in one massive endless dark Purple Bruise from almost Head to Toe now, has always had two very dark rings around his Eyes - and he frequently has sudden and spontaneous bleeds in his Eyes as well which dramatically fill the entire Sclera of his Eye with Blood. Plus every Urine sample he has given over the last two years has had Blood in it as well and he has had to endure all kinds of Tests to try to work out why and it has all finally been put down to him being on Warfarin.
So onto Apixaban it is - and his Consultant says this is what he wants to see all of his Patients going over onto now and that Warfarin has long since had it's day.

That's it - no more work now for a week!
Where to go, what to do, who to annoy?
I'll decide when I've had a kip :)

No lists today - I'm currently in good books with Mrs Grizzly.
On the days when I know I won't quite get home before Mrs Grizzly goes to work I will go out of my way to come home by the route she uses to go to work, so that I can at least wave to her as we pass each other.
Today, I managed to intercept her on the edge of the village where we live. I pulled up alongside her car, we both put our windows down and I passed her the still warm Cornish Pasty I had bought for my dinner.
Who needs chocolates and flowers when a Pasty is much better received? :)

People used to think that my older brother and I were twins when we were kids, even though there is two years between us.
If I did have a twin brother, he would, by definition have to be evil and would probably drive past you slowly, several times whilst eating a Pasty and going "Mmmmmn...delicious"!
Anyway, take a look at what Tech has posted on Good News - Bad News and you'll forget all about Pasties :)

I've been searching for a couple of years now for a replacement Laptop for the very sad day indeed that this beautiful machine of mine will inevitably fail to function ... and on Thursday night I actually found myself one!!! ;o>
The Seller has been so extremely slow in getting back to me on finding out more but it seems that apart from only switching it on and trying out the Settings he has never used it - and so it is virtually still brand new! - which was always the dream but was almost too much to hope for.
It is exactly the same as my first and current Laptop which was only available for sale for a couple of years back in 2010 to 2012, is well over half the price that I originally paid for mine and, to my mind, is worth SO much more than they were asking.
It's been so unbelievably nervewracking in biding my time on waiting for the answers that I desperately needed before going ahead on buying it - and if anyone else had seen it then I would surely never have got the chance to wait on the Seller getting back to me ... but luckily the Seller had listed it in rather an unusual way which meant that it didn't show up on eBay under most of the usual variations of searches - and because of that I'm pretty sure that no-one else had managed to come across it.
These Laptops are absolutely ideal for Gamers and so to get one second-hand that hasn't been heavily used is just so incredibly rare - and the few of those that do occasionally turn up for sale are always selling (within hours of being listed) for over £100 more than this one.
So I may just have scored my very best bargain deal ever off eBay?!! ;o>

I also had an eBay win today. I got up especially early (for me) on a Sunday morning to bid on a painting. It did cost me £65 plus £37.50 shipping from Norfolk. A fair bit of money but he is a well-known artist and I think it's a bargain. Beautifully framed too. I knew the artist quite well and he was the loveliest man (died in 1977). I'm lucky enough to have one of his original bird paintings (a European goshawk) and I just love it.
I watched him painting it and when I asked if I could buy it, he said I could have it! It took me a while to convince him that I wasn't comfortable with that (he had so many friends in our work circle who were far more deserving than me of a "freebie"). I knew the painting was going into an exhibition and I knew the listed price, so that was what I paid. Now I have a beautiful companion piece of a similar size (16" x 12") of "songbirds", so I will have to do some research to find out exactly which birds they are as he painted in Britain, Africa, India and Sri Lanka. It's a bit of a luxury but I regard it as a present to myself and even without the personal connection, I'm sure it's a good investment. Many of his painting sell in the thousands if not tens of thousands (generally bigger works) and I can't believe I was the only bidder.
Sounds like you've found yourself a fantastic deal there, suzy. Hope you've now managed to snap it up :)
Been making the most of a good day - with temperatures of nearly 20 degrees here I've had three loads of laundry out on the line, all of which is now dry.
Had to keep moving it on the line as the sun moved, and only one corner of the garden now is not in shade.
With all that sorted, next on the agenda is dinner. Just for a change, we're actually having a roast on a Sunday.
Beef, pork, lamb or even chicken?
Nope...we're having duck :)

You've done well too, Val :)
Were you actively searching for paintings by this artist or did you just happen to chance upon it?
And to be the only bidder? That really did work out in your favour.

Yes, I HAVE bought the Laptop!!! ;o>
Apparently he had had it on offer for two weeks for £80 more until the early hours of the Thursday which was when I came across it by doing various different ways of searching for it. He had put the Model name in capitals and all in one without a '-' between them and added BLACK to the end so it wasn't showing up on all of the more usual searches for the Laptop by name and Model number.
All it said was 'New/Other' and that it was in 'excellent condition and working order, item not used' and so I messaged him straightaway on Thursday afternoon asking if it still had the original Windows 7 on it - which I was SO hoping that it would as I'm not ready to upgrade myself to the very different Windows 10 until I feel I absolutely have to.
It was also frustrating waiting because eBay suddenly offered up 10% off on everything across the site on Friday and so I could of saved £30 on it if he had got back to me in time. M&D are all as excited as me as they immediately decided that they wanted to buy it for me for Christmas - and that little extra off would have obviously been a very nice added bonus.
However, it was Saturday morning before I got my answer, and it was simply ... "Yes, original Sony, not upgraded" ... which told me that but absolutely nothing more. I had anticipated that it would surely have been upgraded to make it much more sellable - and also for the Seller to do a bit of a sales pitch on it as it was by far the most expensive item that he had on sale - and so I stupidly hadn't thought to ask him anymore.
I got the message as I was logging on and as fast as I could I asked if he could tell me just a bit more about it as it is extremely rare to find an original and completely unused Laptop circa 2010 to 2012 - although I have been SO hoping that I might get lucky on finding one ... such as an unwanted gift left in it's Box on top of Wardrobe and then forgotten about - immaculately clean and just raring to be set up.
'New/Other' can occasionally mean Ex-Display or Refurbished though to some Sellers who insist that it is 'New' because THEY have never used it - although it very clearly has been used before. I wanted as close to a 'New' or a 'Mint' condition one as possible because I am always very careful with mine but nevertheless there are now clear signs of wear and tear in places and so I really didn't want to buy myself one that was in a very similar condition, or any worse, as a replacement.
I had bought myself a 'Mint' one a few years ago off eBay for a £90 more than this one - but took just one look at my Dad's face so full of longing for it and I just had to give it to him for his own instead. And I didn't want to need to share his if/when my current Laptop suddenly fails on me.
The Seller finally got back to me at 4am this morning and told me that he was the only Owner of it and all he had done was to switch it on to check out the Settings - there was no explanation beyond that? - but at least if it sadly turns out not to be true then I do have it in writing in order to get my Money back on it. I was still awake and restless and online at the time looking at ideas for Christmas - so as soon as I got his Email I raced over to the eBay Checkout and quickly bought it before it got snapped up by anyone else!
So, a loooooooooooong story but ... Yep! - it's mine!!! ... YAYYY!!! ;o>

Ohhh WoW?!! - well done, Val!!! ;o>
Can I ask who the Artist is? - only I'm just dying to know now!
We had 15 years of the most fabulous holidays on the Norfolk Coastline - just M&D and me and our previous little hairy woofers and then our current two. It breaks my Heart that we'll never manage to get back there again now - it needs to be got there by Car and it is beyond Mum to attempt it. My Dad always drove and his Strokes have sadly put an end to that ever happening again now.
Grizzlygrump thinks I'm only just joking when I ask him if I can hitch a lift with him - LOL!!! - but if I ever could then I most definitely would! ... and, of course, there would also be M&D, two little hairy woofers, and a small mountain of bags and suitcases to be found room for as well!!! ... ;o> ... ;o> ... ;o>

I've only ever tried Duck once? - I found a small pack of Hoisin Duck pieces in the Reduced Section at Waitrose so, for the price which was still dear but more reasonably so, I just had to try them out. The Sauce was a bit too sweet for me but I do remember that I rather liked the Duck ;o>

I've already seen several Facebook Posts gloomily anticipating they will all die on their first flight off the Nest because they will end up landing on the Road in the Traffic below and be unable to take off again ... which upset me enough to wonder if it was now time to stop following their progress so avidly ... just in case? ...
And then this Morning I logged on to see that one of the Pom Poms had climbed out of the Nest Tray and managed to work it's way along the extremely narrow edge and was pressed against the wall of the Building for a good few minutes before carefully making it's way back and I was so scared for it that I was nearly sick! ;oO
I'm not sure I can cope with the true reality of Nature - survival of the fittest?!! I'm far too sensitive a soul and that Pom Pom had me so freaked out that I was almost beside myself with fright!!!

I have his name saved in eBay's "Saved Searches" facility so I get alerts if anything is listed. It's a bit tricky as I knew him as David Reid-Henry but he signed his paintings as D.M. Henry. His full name was David Morrison Reid Henry, similar to his father's, George Morrison Reid Henry, and his father was also a noted bird artist. So you have to be able to distinguish between father and son as well. In the last ten years or so, only one or two of his paintings have come up on eBay and they have sold quickly and for much more than I can afford. I have been able to buy about a dozen postcards (Valentine Bird Series and Royle Art) but, even with those, I'm not sure if they're by father or son.

I don't know if you will be able to access this link now it's sold but this is the painting.

From 1972 to 1975 I worked (as Librarian) at the Queen Victoria Museum in what was Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe). It came under the aegis of the National Museum which was housed in Bulawayo. The main focus of the collections were natural history and ethnology. Specialist departments included palaeontology, ichthyologyy, oology, zoology, etc. There was a small history collection (of European colonisation) but the main emphasis was on native fauna and the ethnography of ancient civilisations (mainly Great Zimbabwe). Behind the scenes, there were large collections of skeletal and preserved remains of animals and birds which were studied by staff and visiting scholars.
David Reid-Henry was given access to the ornithological collection because of his artistic interest in birds. He did also paint African wildlife - lions, elephant and various species of buck and antelope - but birds were his passion. He (and his father before him) had studied the bird life and illustrated many of the definitive works on the birds of India and Ceylon (as it then was). He also did many stamp issues for Ceylon, South Africa and other countries. He always painted from life (even though our collection was obviously dead!) but he would spread the wings to study each feather in minute detail. He was very scathing about artists like Peter Scott who he believed painted from photographs and had never seen a wild animal in the flesh.
At that time, David was spending six months in England and six months in Rhodesia. He was estranged from his wife but he had two daughters in England. He had a lovely home high in the hills where he kept a collection of eagles (in the most enormous aviaries) and owls, which had free rein of the house. Very disconcerting when you went to the toilet and were never quite sure whether the owl in the eaves was going to shit on you. I think most of his birds were rescued. He did ask me to house sit on various occasions but I had to say no because I didn't have the heart to pick up live rats or rabbits and fling them into the raptors.
He was the sweetest, kindest man and was very solicitous of me. When I left the Museum to travel (to New Zealand, in the first instance), he wrote me a lovely letter about being careful of lecherous men! And he presented me with a number of book-plates from books he had illustrated. He died two years later in Rhodesia but I believe they were happy years. He had divorced and then married a lovely woman and was painting right up until his death.
There is a brief article on Wiki about him with some links to his obituary and art work. Or you can look on Google images for david reid henry artist or david reid henry paintings.
I'll try and take a photo of the painting I've got and post it here later.

Thanks Suzy. I'll have a look. The birds have a long, hooked beak, a bit like a humming bird, but their foliage is black, white, copper and russet. The background doesn't give much away but I know david was always exact about the setting. I'm sort of wondering if it may be from the series he did for the book "Birds of Arabia".
By the way, re Norfolk, the painting came from Strumpshaw - great name!

I'm about to get ready to go out to the Dentists (and the getting ready to go out unfortunately takes me all of about 3 hours these days - LOL!!!) but I'll be sure to check D. M. Reid out on Google later on this afternoon when I get back ... and thank you so much for sharing such a fascinating story with us.
I shall be chuckling over you sat on the Loo at D. M. Reid's House and worrying about the Owls dropping their 'unwelcome gifts' on you all day now ;o>
I am pretty confident that that Songbird is definitely not a British Bird by the way - and so you can rule the UK out on it's identification.

Suzy, I know what you mean about the pom=poms. I was also online yesterday when one had ventured out on to the ledge and I had to keep checking back to see it had managed to return safely to the nesting box. According to Facebook, all three were on the ledge today! They're surely a while away from flying while they've still got all that down.
Your "new" computer sounds like just what the doctor ordered. I hope it reaches you safely and does everything you need it to.

Well, I'm not sure you could call the River Nene a duck pond, though there are plenty of Mallards bobbing around on it along with the Swans, Coots and Great Crested Grebes.
In the village, however, there is an enclosure full of Geese which I walk past on my way to see the Doctor so that's potentially Christmas dinner sorted? :)

They can barely even sit upright by themselves and if they try to turn ... and topple? ... ! ;o<
I genuinely don't think that I can bear to watch them anymore now!

"I hope you love using the laptop, IF you have any problems or any questions please feel free to message me anytime and I would love to assist. I have wrapped the laptop well and just got the label printed, I will post it tomorrow morning. x best regards ... "
Isn't that nice and also so kind too? - it just makes my Heart glad to know that there really are so many lovely and caring people still out there in the wide world ;o>
I also found several rather bizarre and also distinctly abusive Emails from someone who was once one of my most loved and most closest and dearest of friends as well ... which very sadly is no longer anything new or even surprising or shocking to me as they once were anymore ... (*sigh*) ... and all that they did were to remind me that there are also some extremely negative, destructive and angry people out there too - and of all of the very distressing and heartbreakingly painful reasons why, for the sake of my own incredibly fragile health and happiness, we can no longer continue to stay friends with each other anymore ;o<
And now I'm off back to Bed for a while hoping that I'll wake up feeling better again.

So ... Hello again! -and Good Morning Everyone! - LOL!!! ... no Breakfast today because I felt so awful first thing - but M&D have just surprised me by saying that they fancy something really tasty and a bit different today and so they have unexpectedly just bobbed out to get us Puddin' 'n'Chips for a late Lunch-time treat ;o>

I'll be honest, it isn't doing my now really terrible fear of Heights any good at all in seeing that extra bit more including the Ledge drop! I keep getting a weird and funny feeling in my Knees whenever I look at it too closely ;oO
I can see why the Pom Poms need the space to flap those Wings and stretch those Legs now - but it just scares me witless everytime I see them wandering off down the Ledge. And if I log on and can only make out two of them because one is hidden by the others I keep panicking as I try to see round them to find the missing one!

Funny you should say that, Martin - on Monday the snowplough/gritter lorry in our yard was fired up and being checked over to make sure it is all working properly and today they were checking over the small gritter used for the paths and walkways.
Nothing like being prepared, is there? :)
