suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments The weird thing here is that we have severe gale-force Winds more than strong enough to knock you sideways and some localised flooding that has closed down a large section of the Main Road beyond ours ... yet it is SO mild and warm that you could stand outside in a Bikini if you wanted to and not feel any cold at all?!! ;o>

message 2205: by [deleted user] (new)

You're right - I've just tried that and I don't feel at all cold, just stupid!
(Especially as I'm outside the Peterborough store waiting to deliver) :)

Decorating is the last thing on our minds!

We still haven't decided yet if we want to go away anywhere, as Phoebe has only just forgiven us for our previous night away :)
Although my stepson was there, it has taken Phoebe nearly four years to get to the point where she no longer hisses and spits at him when he walks into the room, so she wasn't best pleased to find out he was the only person in the house. Everybody else, she just runs and hides from - she's really not a people person.

We'll probably just settle for some daytrips and see if we can find some places that do decent food :)

Phoebe has finally got you trained just how she has always wanted for you all to be - and then you two have the absolute nerve to just take off for the Night without even asking her for her permission first, hey?!! ... and it was permission that you know that she would not have granted!

How could you do that to her? ... Hee, Hee, Hee!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hmmm? - I've just been sent a Lidl Email reminding me that it is both National Baking and National Chocolate Week this week!

So, it seems I absolutely MUST try a White Twin Peaks then?! ;o>

It is also 'Eastern Europe Flavour of the Week' at Lidl right now and so they are selling huge jars of Polish Multiflower Honey plus some rather interesting looking Frozen Dumplings filled with either Quark or a Plum Jam, jars of Cabbage Parcels (stuffed with Pork & Rice) in a Tomato Sauce, a Polish version of some Dark Chocolate Jaffa Cakes filled with Raspberry Jelly, and a chilled Chocolate coated Curd Cheese Dessert Bar made with Hazelnuts or Raspberries ... ?

I'm not sure that I like the sound of the Cabbage Parcels? - but the Dumplings have me quite intrigued, it's ages since we had some Honey, and the Curd Cheese Bars sound bizarre yet fascinating ;o>

message 2229: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments There was a Polish grocery shop near us in Sheffield and we used to try various things. My husband loved all the fruit jams and we both loved the pickled herrings - not rollmops as such but small squares of fish in sweet vinegar and peppercorns. Yummy!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments If something isn't too dear (and it usually isn't from the likes of Lidl) and it sounds to be a bit different then I don't mind risking not liking it by trying it out.

I figure that they must be Bestsellers to have been chosen to be offered up for sale over here and so they must be worth me experimenting with ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Lightly buttered Toast topped with slices of Half Fat Extra Mature Cheddar and then microwaved Cherry Tomatoes for Brunch ... YummY! ;o>

The Pom Poms have grown SO much in certain places that they scarcely know how to move or what to do with themselves ... bless 'em! They try to flap their little stubby bits only to have huge jointed Wings unfold and extend and then they need to work out how to close and fold such awkward things up again.

And their Feet?!! ... they keep shuffling clumsily around on their Bums at the moment because they have suddenly grown very weak and wobbly/bendy stilt-like Legs with massive clown-sized Feet and claws too ... Legs and Feet that they are quite clearly totally bemused by and not in any real control of ;o>

It must be so bewildering, and tough too, having such massive unexpected growth spurts while you are fast asleep and waking up to each new day to being all the more disproportionately gangly and bulky? They cuddle together all the time and just look so sweet and so vulnerable that they just make your Heart melt.

Twin Peaks Update;

The white chocolate ones are not available at the Wisbech store, much to my annoyance! Going to have to go and have a look in the Peterborough store now at some point next week.
I've had myself a wander around a lot of the shops like Poundland, Savers, B&M and QD in Wisbech, just to see what they've got to offer and they're all pretty much of a muchness, no real bargains to be had.
I also had a nose around Lidl, but not blown away by them either - I picked up a few bits, including a Hazelnut Madeira, which I'm looking forward to trying.
Inevitably, I ended up in Tesco where I spent enough to get a voucher for 10p a litre off the cost of filling up my car. Even with the voucher it still cost me £77 to fill up!

Surprisingly, doing all that took care of five hours from leaving the house to getting back which is very slow, even by my standards :)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hopefully things will get much more interesting after Halloween is over and done with and this year's Christmas stock turns up? Some years I get some lovely Stocking Fillers - cheap on price but fab on quality bits and pieces - such as Red Felt Table Mats and Table Runners which always look good and come in useful ;o>

And no, I haven't had a White Twin Peaks either yet ... ;o< ... and I bet our Tech has probably tucked into loads of them already! - LOL!!!

message 2237: by [deleted user] (new)

There's plenty of Christmas stock in the shops round here already, normally in the next aisle over from the Halloween stock :)

Here's hoping that the limited edition part of the White Twin Peaks doesn't mean that they are limited to Scotland! :)

Here's hoping that I finally get to go out to go shopping before Easter then! ;o>

I think the White Chocolate version of Twin Peaks will be an extremely limited edition throughout the whole of Scotland as well as the rest of the UK if tech gets to have his way?!!

Rumour has it that around 10,000 White Twin Peaks arrived in Kilmarnock on the 12th of October and vanished before they could make it from the Lorry into the Store! No-one knows quite what happened? - as all that was recorded on the Car Park CCTV was an ever-so-brief and blurry flash past of what looked to be a short person in a Tartan Kilt while a beautiful Bearded Collie in a Pink Diamante Balaclava was seen to be keeping watch?!! ;o>

Mum has a Chest Infection and Dad is currently coming off Warfarin and about to go onto Apixaban instead - as he looks like he has an entire Bruise from Head to Toe and has also been discovered to be having small internal bleeds as well.

It's like an episode of Casualty here at the moment what with stacks of Prescriptions and a Dining Room Table groaning under the weight of M&D's current Medications while I sort them all out into various Dosette Boxes! - LOL!!! ;o>

message 2242: by [deleted user] (new)

Localised flooding - you're not at risk of being submerged, are you?

Some of the roads round here have floodgates which do actually get closed when the water gets too high. Ironically, while one of these roads was closed for flooding, another road was closed at the same time, according to the road closure signs, to repair drought damage! :)

Remind me again on Christmas Eve - that'll give me plenty of time to get everything sorted :)

We were going to have fish cooked in my standard tangy tomato sauce (my base for bolognese, chilli etc.) and served in wraps with salad and grated cheese. However, I never accounted for the moisture coming out of the fish so the sauce remained stubbornly runny, and we ended up serving it in bowls and calling it a tangy fish and tomato soup served with large chunks of bread for mopping up :)

We aren't on a Flood Plain in this part of Stockport but three of the nearby Villages have suddenly started with suffering with terrible Flooding over the last three years - the likes of which we have never seen before. We live in a Village with several Main Roads that often get badly submerged in certain places and then we need the Fire Brigade to come and pump them clear.

It's a combination of some of the Roads having large dips to them and/or inadequate or blocked Drains. The Road beneath the Railway Station near the Shopping Centre can unexpectedly flood due to heavy Rainfall in barely less than a couple of hours and by enough of a depth that Cars cannot pass.

We have a lot of No Through Roads around here that can easily get closed off when this happens and folk can find themselves stranded at places like the local Library as with it being a dead end Road there is only a couple of long and winding little Footpaths that go up and down Steps, through narrow Ginnels, and under and over little Bridges to get to other Roads - and so if, like me, you are mobility-challenged then you are pretty much stuck until the Fire Brigade has cleared the Roads. I've often had to spend several Hours at the Library in past years and sometimes for much longer after their usual Closing Time ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I'm at a complete loss for any ideas on gifts for M&D this year - I've bought them just about everything over past years and they don't want or even need anything this year? I'm going to have to go all round the House and think very hard indeed about what might possibly be wanted and welcome.

It will be my first Christmas in four years at home with M&D and the Girls again instead of spending it elsewhere with my friend - which, to be absolutely honest, will feel rather sad and a little bit strange, but will also hopefully be so much happier and far more celebratory too - and so I'd like for it to be special.
