It's good that it's coming down, at least. Better still to know there's no kidney damage or heart enlargement. Have they checked for endocrine causes (renin:aldosterone ratio [primary hyperaldosteronism], urinary catecholamines [phaeochromocytoma]), or are they convinced it's just something that can be controlled with amlodipine? The endocrine conditions are very rare but they usually need to be excluded for such high blood pressure.

Gordon;

I'm not going to pretend that I understand half of what you posted, so the only answer I can give is that, as my Doctor has the results from urine, blood, ECG and blood pressure tests and has only decided to double my Amlodipine, I can only assume that he thinks that this is all that is necessary at the moment :)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Mum made a rather yummy Chicken, Leek & Bacon Pie with a Mashed Potato topping for Tea - based on a Tesco recipe that I was sent via Email last week ;o>

message 1755: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments We didn't have any Bacon in - and so we used a large Smoked Gammon Steak instead which worked even better, I think, as it was cut up into Chunks to match the size of the chopped-up Chicken pieces ;o>

I would definitely have it again.

The sun is out,
The sky is blue,
But the weather report
Says "Rain by 2"

message 1757: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments The sun is in
The sky is grey
There's a fine drizzle here
Summer's had it's day

Yes, you're right,
Summer has passed;
The trees round here
Are losing leaves fast

The temp’s 13°
It’s bloody cold

Martin O' | 2196 comments Summer is passing
Though Autumn's mild embrace is fair for a time
Daylight hours wain and morning chlls soon prevail
How long uhtil the Spring, how long?
For 'tis there my heart still dwells
And walks in hill and dale
As the turning of the year spins it's restless tale

message 1761: by [deleted user] (new)

The temperature here
Is sixteen degrees;
I'm still wearing shorts
And tanning my knees
Trousers and jumpers
In the wardrobe will stay
And might come back out
In February :)

message 1762: by Martin (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments Big coats and wellies for me
I'll truck with no lightweight attire
When the north wind blows
And grey cloud snows
I'll just stay here by the fire

message 1763: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm hoping that the weather round here follows the same pattern as last year - we had some glorious days right through to late October and, if I remember rightly, we didn't put the heating on until near the end of November.

message 1764: by Martin (last edited Sep 06, 2018 05:29AM) (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments I don't mind September/October, Autumn has a certain charm with leaves of different hues early frosts and cobwebs on the hedgerow adorned with diamonds of dewthat sparkle in the sun. No, for me it's the turning back the clocks when night falls earlier and earlies and stays longer and longer, bears and such have the right idea and hibernate the months away. Me, I cant wait for the Newt7 Year when the tide of winter turns and spring s not far away. Some more nonsense.

I like our dog Toby, he's sound
Though he swears like a trooper profound
Eight inches ,no more
From shoulder to floor
It's a wonder his legs reach the ground
He'd fight any dog, big or small
No matter how short or how tall
He would fight to the death
Though I hope not just yet
For then there'd be no more Toby at all

An outlaw named Quickdraw McGill
Claimed thirty two men he did kill
Now the chuch bell it rang
By the neck he did hang
Now he's buried up there on Boothill

Martin O' | 2196 comments Our other dog Rory by name
Isn't too bright, it's a shame
He's as daft as a brush
His brains are all mush
But we love him to bits just the same
He's a staffy of sorts I suppose
Who grew out from his tail to his nose
People do tell
Of his wonderful smell
Though it certainly isn't that of a rose

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments We believe Mitzi-Ditzi has got a secret boyfriend called Ralph?

We've never actually met him but all that we ever hear about is ...

"Ralph! Ralph! Ralph!" ;o>

message 1768: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a much cooler start to the day here - temperatures have only just reached double figures despite a bright sunny sky. I even considered putting on a t-shirt when I went out to top up the bird feeders and clean out the bird bath :)

Nice rhymes, Martin - puts my ditties to shame :)

suzy; does Tia get jealous and tell Mitzi to stop her yapping?

message 1769: by Martin (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments Thanks for the compliment Grizz, I enjoyed yours also though I don't think Wordsworth has got anything to worry about, still not bad for a couple of amateurs.
Suzy, you wouldn't say bless 'em if you knew them, they are a couple of delinquents at heart!

Mitzi-Ditzi and Tia were out on the town
Looking for fun and romance
When Ralph and his friend came over to them
And asked politely if they'd care for a dance
"Why not?", the two ladies smiled coyly
And proceeded to waltz round the floor
They tangoed and foxtrotted till the hour was late
Then they carried on dancing some more

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments There is never any real jealousy at all between them - it is only ever playtime all day long! - and Tia is always eager and willing to help join in with the chorus to all of Mitzi's funny little sing-songs ;o>

"Ralph! Ralph! Ralph!" ... "Oohf!"

"Ralph!-Ralph! Ralph!-Ralph! Ralph!" ... "Oohf!-Oohf!-Oohf!"

Mitzi frequently 'talks' to us all (including Tia as well) during the day. She likes to comment on just about everything and we don't half get a right mouthful off her at times. If M&D dare to go out in the Car without them she always gives them such a long and indignant lecture about it when they get back! - LOL!!!

She really doesn't like the Kitchen Door, for some weird reason that is known only to her, and has several verbal 'arguments' with it on a daily basis. If she is in the Lounge and you go into the Kitchen and close the Door behind you she will immediately race into the Hallway and start with yelling at and head-butting it until it is open again?!!

One of her most favourite words on greeting us is ... "Eh-oh!"... and so I am currently trying to encourage her to follow up on her version of Hello with ... "Ow-do?" ... ;o>

I read your Poem out loud to the Girls, Martin, and they absolutely loved it! ;o>

Mitzi yawned and rolled over and closed both of her Eyes in what appeared to be blissful contemplation ... and Tia put her Paw on my Knee, looked me very meaningfully in the Eyes, and belched! ... apparently it MUST be their Biscuit Time already?! - despite it most definitely still not yet being 1 o'clock by my Wristwatch?!! ;o>

Never mind dogs - I've just played that clip while Phoebe was asleep next to me on the arm of my chair. Her eyes snapped open, she arched her back, hissed and disappeared.
That's totally ruined her morning but brightened up mine 🦉🐕🙀

Now I've really upset her - Phoebe can hear a can being opened from wherever she is, be it in the house or the garden and I've just opened a can of kidney beans to add to the Chilli I'm making to go on jacket spuds.
I've had to hold the can down at her level to prove that it isn't tuna, and I've never seen a greater look of disappointment than I've seen just now.

She'll forgive me in about a week, hopefully :)

message 1786: by [deleted user] (new)

While I've been in the kitchen, I've been watching the hordes of Sparrows in the garden - 5 or 6 of them gather round the edge of the bird bath and another one jumps into the middle, splashing away for all it's worth and giving the rest a shower :)

Tia is the same with my Fruit Salad ;o> ... if I'm lucky I can open the Fridge without any 'help' ... but as soon as I start to ever-so-quietly release the Airtight sides on the Box she just miraculously materialises out of seemingly nowhere! ;oO

I always put a whole tin of Peaches into my Fruit Salad but never get to eat any! ;o>

As it's now past midday, I can confidently declare that, round here at least, it's a hazy Sunday afternoon :)

I've managed to lose 2 lbs this week, just another 28 to go now!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments 2lbs?!! ... TWO WHOLE POUNDS?!! ... YAYYY!!! ... well done that man!!! ;o>

It's a dull grey day here but it's a bearably lukewarm temperature for all that.

Martin O' | 2196 comments Bright and breezy here folks though some cloud, very pleasant all the same. Cauliflower and macaroni cheese for tea and some cold beers for later😊!

message 1794: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Did someone mention Cauliflower Cheese? ... Yum!-Yum!-Yum! ;o>

It miraculously hasn't rained a single drop here? - despite the extremely heavy overcast Sky keeping on with alternating between dense mid-grey and almost black Cloud cover. The Daylight has been Dusk-like pretty much all day long though - making it feel very Wintery and decidedly oppressive.

Still, I've had several loads of Laundry aired on the Line outside and they have all dried very quickly too ;o>

message 1795: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm having a go at a sweet potato and chicken traybake that's on the Tesco recipes site, having had my 30 minute warning that Mrs Grizzly is on her way home from work :)

Yep, also wedges, roasties, mash and I use sweet potatoes in stir fry as well, either thinly sliced or in long strips by using a potato peeler.
We get through a lot more sweet potatoes than we do ordinary potatoes :)

message 1799: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Sep 09, 2018 10:39AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I can't bring myself to like Sweet Potatoes? - and believe me, I have tried! ;o>

I've had them just about every which way over the years but the Oirish in me still always mutters ... To be sure this is most definitely NOT a Potato!

message 1800: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, the traybake was very well received, except for the garlic cloves - Mrs Grizzly will only eat garlic if it is finely chopped so I ended up with all the garlic on my plate :)
Improvised slightly - I used a pack of chicken breasts where the recipe used thighs so I put the chicken in a hot pan first to sear it all round before adding it to the rest of the ingredients. Also, I added in some cauliflower florets where the recipe only used broccoli.
Personally, I think it could have used a bit more stock though that's probably my fault for not compensating for the extra chicken and the cauli. I will definitely be doing this dish again :)

Waste of time asking Mrs Grizzly to pick up anything on her way home as she never carries any money or even a bank card with her 99% of the time - her purse very rarely gets taken out of the drawer in the sideboard :)
