Martin O' | 2196 comments Trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Beasts second instalment looks promising. I must admit to having serious doubts about the first film and only recently got around to watching it. Totally hooked in the first half hour, they manage to maintain a strong connection to the original concept with just the right amount of originality and an engaging cast of characters that work well to produce a solid storyline that carries on a fine tradition.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Martin wrote: "Went to see Christopher Robin today, money well spent, thoroughly enjoyable!"

I read Christopher Robin's Book on his childhood a couple of decades ago - and I'm guessing that they had to wait for his death first before they could go ahead with making a Film about him?

I remember being so upset at reading how much he intensely hated being Christopher Robin and I don't think that he ever got over feeling like that and he even felt like it had pretty much ruined his life as well.

Winnie The Pooh was such an essential, wonderful and truly precious part of my own childhood and so I was really looking forward to reading his Book. However it left me feeling so unbelievably sad afterwards that I still wish, even now, that I had never read it.

message 1660: by Martin (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments Well Suzy, THANKFULLY the film is nothing like that, just a delightful and gentle tale full of evocative childhood memories brought to life in the most remarkable way. The recreation of the One Hundred Acre Wood and its denizens is simply perfect. I also grew up with this silly old bear and his friends and passed on the love to my son and daughter. One of my nieces has now two young children so this Christmas I am putting together a collection of AA Milne (illustrated of course!), Just So stories and various other books and dvd's, hopefully a new generation will enjoy and share them, passing them on in turn.

P Cobb | 580 comments Martin wrote: "Went to see Christopher Robin today, money well spent, thoroughly enjoyable!"

We went to see it on Tuesday.

Mixed feelings: nonsensical and with a Disney moral, but all very enjoyable. I did wonder what CR's family would have thought of it. Disney film, so all the Pooh characters were the voices and characteristics of the Disney interpretation.
Without wanting to give spoilers, felt the amount of people who were able to 'see' the characters was strange and that it would have worked better if it were only CR and daughter.

Have seen a few films over the summer, including the new Mama Mia, Mission Impossible (don't know how long Cruise can continue with the non-stop action), Incredibles 2 (easily as good as the first), and Ant Man and The Wasp (good escapism).

Saw the first Fantastic Beasts and enjoyed it, so will be looking forward to Fantastic Beasts 2.

SuZie: do you get to watch recent films on DVD?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I've read the basic outline of the Film online - and I reckon that's possibly why they waited this long until the real Christopher Robin was no longer alive - because he might well have strongly objected to it?

Personally, although I did feel so very disillusioned and so sorry for him for the cold, empty, sad and neglectful childhood that he had, I'm really glad that the Film has been created instead to be far more of a reflection of the Books and the innocent and joyful magical wonderland created by and all around a little Boy and his Bear ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments A couple of years ago I hunted and searched absolutely everywhere online until I finally found a VHS Video (the only Format there seemingly is) of the fabulous Willy Rushton reading Winnie The Pooh - as I always loved the way that he read it so much more than I did Alan Bennett.

I've no idea as to how to convert it into a DVD yet - but I must start soon with looking into it before Technology goes and moves on so much that it might no longer be possible.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments P wrote: "Suzie: do you get to watch recent films on DVD?"

I don't have or particularly want a DVD Player. I could always use my Laptop as one if need be but, to be honest, P, I've only just got myself back into watching TV again after several years of choosing not to do so - and I'm afraid my concentration levels are definitely no longer what they were before I became disabled.

I like Forum interactions and the Internet to wander around on when I do sit down and I keep myself busy with lots of other things rather than make time to sit around watching anything for too long.

When I do just sit I either end up in too much pain to be able to sit still for long or else I tend to just fall asleep! I use the Radio or TV far more as an interesting and distracting background noise to tune in and out of as I keep busy getting on with getting day-to-day things done around the House.

Well, I've survived another week, no thanks to a moron in an artic who decided to overtake me on a single carriageway and in the process forcing me and an oncoming car to a screeching halt to avoid a three vehicle pile-up!
Other than that, it's been quite uneventful here. We had some wet stuff fall out of the sky, rain, I think they call it. That cooled things down but not for long. It's only really today that temperatures have finally dropped to a more comfortable level :)

Unbelievably it’s only 13° here today and I’ve got the electric fire on as I have for part of every day this week!

message 1668: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments OMG! - that sounds absolutely terrifying, Grizzly!

I think I'd be far too shook up after that to drive on anywhere ;oO

It's been pretty much average and lukewarm weather here all week with the odd heavy Rain Shower causing a few damp shivers now and then. It feels like Summer is over? - but you never know what September through to early Oct can bring ... we've had some incredible Heat-waves in past years, haven't we?

I've no idea what Tea is? - Mum has been crashing and banging away in the Kitchen for over half an hour now! - LOL!!! It's best not to ask when you start hearing sounds like that going on ;o>

I can't stand to cook today. I'm putting off having to go get it X-rayed day after day, but the truth of it is that I think that I may have broken a Bone or two in my Right Heel during a bad fall that I had back in early July. I've kept on with making excuses for the extra pain - could be a possible sprain, the bruising just taking it's own sweet time to heal? - but sadly it is not getting any better, in fact it is getting worse, and Mum keeps on nagging about taking me to the Drs.

Ahhh well?! - I'll probably put it off for yet another week, knowing me - LOL! - but I know that I will have to do something about it after that if I still can't stand on it by then ;o<

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Oooh? - I've just been abruptly told by a very agitated and flustered Mum that tonight's Tea is going to be a Takeaway?!! ;oO

It's probably just as well that I can't get down the Stairs today?! - as the Kitchen has sounded like it has been being dismantled with a Pickaxe and a Sledgehammer for the last 45 minutes?!!

Come to think of it? - I haven't heard or seen anything of my Dad for the last hour or so?!! ... maybe my Mum has decided to do him in for complaining about last night's Tea?!! ... he was rather rude about all the lumps in the Gravy ;oO

suzy!!

You of all people should know better - if someone else said that they might have broken bones you'd be the first one to tell them to get to the doctor or hospital, wouldn't you?
You really should get it looked at, even if it is only to confirm that it's badly bruised.

Takeaway for dinner?
In our house that means either "Sod it, I'm not cooking" or there's nothing to cook - it's normally the first one :)
I knocked up a tomato based concoction which included new potatoes, sweet potatoes, celery, onions, mushrooms and half a dozen skinned sausages which turned out better than I expected.

As for that other driver, I was more annoyed at his stupidity than I was frightened. As soon as I saw he had pulled right onto the opposite side of the road I started backing off the speed. The road we were on is a straight, about 4 miles long and very deceptive - there was a fatal crash barely a mile from where he overtook me just two months ago, a lorry pulled out of its' depot, turning right and a bus ploughed straight into it, killing the driver of the bus and one passenger. Barely a week goes by without an accident occurring on this road due to people misjudging distances.

I know! ;o> ... it's hard to explain it? ... but at the time I hurt all over just like I usually do - and, although I did know that I had slammed the middle of the bottom of my Foot against the thin Glass edge of the Bathroom Scales which then slammed into the Wall and couldn't go any further and so caused a backwards impact to my Heel as I went down, I genuinely only thought that it was just badly bruised and it did stop with hurting all of the time after about a week or so.

It is just that if I sit with my Legs out and resting on the Bed as I usually do, I am now finding that it is far too painful to do so anymore because of my Heel and then the pain is just so intense when I try to walk on it afterwards - and so that is why I am now thinking that I might possibly have got a fracture or two in my Heel area and that they have either not healed or maybe have healed badly?

I get so fed up with all of the endless backwards and forwards to Hospital Clinics and continually only getting confirmations of yet more deteriorations that I'd already suspected anyway and I'd rather not go if things in general feel bearable and manageable. It isn't being in denial in any way, more about awareness of how things are and will always be - and about acceptance and just getting on and making the best of it all - keeping on with staying positive.

But you're right, Poppet, and my Mum is too. And I'm sick of all the extra pain and the added incapacity and the fact that it is not going to settle down after all or simply go away ... so I'll ring tomorrow and ask my Dr to write me out a Request for an X-ray.

It's turned into a damp, drizzly day here following a lovely bright start - up at half past three this morning to make sure Mrs Grizzly had a hot drink before setting off for work so I got some salmon out the freezer at the same time.
I've just fried mine with some sliced mushrooms and served it in a pitta with salad and a squirt of chilli sauce - and very nice it was too :)

With plenty of spare time this morning before the shops opened, I've been going through my emails to see what could be binned (mainly Groupon) and what required my attention. One of them was from Anglian Water, detailing my bill and instalments due for the next 12 months. I was pleasantly surprised that, instead of paying more, they have actually halved the payments.
Nice to have some good news for a change :)

Lez | 7490 comments Scottish Water isn’t privatised, it’s in with the Council Tax so everyone pays the same and it invariably goes up every year. It is a bit unfair as a single occupant pays the same as a big family. I don’t usually agree with privatisation but I think it would be better in this case, giving people the choice of having a water meter.

message 1688: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, if they do halve the water supply I'll just have to go outside in the rain with my bar of soap, won't I?

The rain has bought the temperature down into the low teens here and my only concession to that is not opening the lounge windows or putting on the fan - still in shorts and t-shirt when I went shopping and will be again for work later.

Hi Lez :)

Our Council Tax also went down for this year by about £10 per month.
According to Anglian Water, we have a water meter, which must be somewhere out the front of the property as they claim their last reading of the meter was on 18th August and is how they have determined the upcoming instalments.
