Isabella | 1370 comments Is anyone else having trouble posting on Goodreads? From time to time, instead of my message appearing, I see a large pink box, full of gobbledegook and have to refresh and start again. No big deal but it's tedious. Any ideas, please?

Hi Isabella. It is working fine for me re: posting. I am definitely not getting large pink boxes or gobbledegook! Have you tried updating your browser?
The only thing I am STILL having an issue with is the little red number of new posts indicator that shows on the main Amazon Exiles home board. There are a couple of threads it doesn't appear for: this one and "What Are You Hearing..." are the main one's for me.

message 9207: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22144 comments I’ve had that issue Isabella and my theory is : the page has been open for a while and you have to refresh it before posting. Refreshing and reposting has worked for me every time.

Re not seeing new posts, miraculously I had a red new post on What Are You Hearing the other day. But it isn’t working now.

Val H. | 22144 comments Update: I’ve got one new red alert on What Are You Hearing!! Hooray!! But it probably won’t last!

message 9209: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Nothing seems to work on resolving this issue, does it? ;o<

I am afraid that I have come to the very sad conclusion that, just like with the management and maintenance of the old Amazon Forums, these original website functions are probably intentionally being phased out by Goodreads ... as otherwise they would surely have worked hard on fixing all of these annoying and disruptive 'glitches' in the website system by now ;o<

message 9210: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1370 comments Well I do refresh and I've tried signing out and back in but today no new posts are showing up at all which has happened in the past. I got here by just dropping in to check whether anyone had seen my post and you had but I didn't know!

I suspect you're right, Suzy and we're just not worth the effort of maintaining the system.

Collette | 6187 comments Didn't know the best place to put this one but Scottish animal charity OneKind are close to running out of funds and in real need of help.

https://www.onekind.org/donate/we-are...

If you don't want to give out your card details on their website you can donate through Paypal (press Donate and type in OneKind).

message 9212: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sadly most people on Goodreads don't seem to get notifications, Collette, so it might be a good idea to post it on every active thread you can find on Exiles ... x

message 9213: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22144 comments I made a donation but couldn't get it to go through PayPal, probably because I am overseas. I tried going on Paypal.uk but it kept diverting to the Australian site where OneKind wasn't recognised (only Australian charities/fundraisers came up). Anyway, I've given my card details and hopefully the organisation gets enough support to continue their good work.

message 9214: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Jul 27, 2025 01:44AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It is a great shame as I also tried PayPal but I couldn't find OneKind in all of the many listings that came up and so I haven't been able to send them a donation. Is there not an Email address that can be entered and used to find them on PayPal, Collette?

I've been looking all over the site and the only way that I've found to donate is by entering card details and I really hate having to do that instead of using PayPal ;o<

Collette | 6187 comments Thanks Val. 😘

Suzy, I contacted them and they gave me a link to their PayPal account. I tried putting it up on here but my details were there (DOH). On the PayPal UK website there is a button that says donate (it's for fundraisers and charities). When you press on it you type in OneKind. It's the only thing that comes up. They're based in Edinburgh and it's an orange logo.

Their email is info@onekind.org

😘

Ohhh, I found It! ... YAYYY!!! ;o>

I don't have a button that says 'Donate' but that's actually no great surprise to me as I don't use a mobile phone or Apps on my Laptop and so I already know that I don't get offered the same kind of layout and access on my PC.

Instead I searched around PayPal and found a section on the Home page just underneath the 'Bank accounts and cards' section that says ' Your favourite charities'. I clicked on this and it took me to a page I had never used before ... https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/hub

I started to type in OneKind and it immediately found it because this time it was only searching for charities with this name and not listing all of the companies and individuals all around the world like it always does when using the 'Send and Request' tab.

https://www.paypal.com/fundraiser/cha...

Donation sent ... x

Thankyou, Suzy. Lauren from OneKind is going to speak to her colleagues tomorrow to see if they can get PayPal integrated into the website to make it easier. I've ordered from their online shop in the past. Must have used D's bank card though (shh! don't tell him) . 🤫

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Collette wrote: "... Must have used D's bank card though (ssh! don't tell him)"

Oooooooh! ... does he never check through his Bank Statements and suddenly start wondering why on Earth he is being billed for things that he has never heard of and doesn't ever remember ordering?! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Does little Miss Snowdrop also use his Bank Card too?!! ;o> ...

message 9219: by Collette (new)

Collette | 6187 comments D hates giving out bank details now so his motto online is that if he can't use Paypal he won't buy it. With the amount of money we spend on Miss Fussy Snowdrop, I'm surprised we don't need a bank loan. 😽

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments LOL!!! ... I am so glad Pixie is fast asleep and not reading this!

I don't want her to get any 'good' ideas about using my Bank Card! ;o>

Val H. | 22144 comments For the first time in ages I actually got the red “1 new post” message! There were 7 new posts (after mine) but I will settle for “1” if it means I can see there has been some action on this thread.

message 9222: by Helen The Melon (new)

Helen The Melon | 3419 comments Woohoo, I have also got the "new" post indictator showing today, although the number is incorrect. And not just for this thread either, it has also reappeared for the "What are you hearing..." thread too, although, again the number is incorrect. Nevermind, it's better than nothing!

Collette, I have supported OneKind in the past and will make a donation next week, hopefully.

Mountain hares, Helen? I remember signing that petition away back after you'd posted about it. That's the first time I'd ever heard of OneKind. So many charities out there trying to stay afloat. It's a shame.

Hi, yes, I think maybe the Mountain Hares campaign was the first time I had heard of them and supported them. I have kept up with them since then but somehow missed this fundraising campaign. I will donate when I'm able in the next week or so - had a few additional expenses this month, birthdays, car ins was over £100 more than last year, kettle lid stopped opening and is unfixable & I decided to splash out on a new dualit which will hopefully last longer. There's always something!

I seem to have signed up for emails which is why I found out. Spoke nice to D about making a donation and he said ok.

Tell me about it. We bought a new Costway computer chair a couple of months back. Over £100 and neither of us like it. Took the arms off and it's still too big and clumsy (and sore on your backside even though it's padded), so that'll be our next thing. D's just happy I'm the one that chose it and not him.

Isabella | 1370 comments No new posts at all for me. Just have to check the few that I can find…

Val H. | 22144 comments No new notifications for me today on either this thread or What Are You Hearing although both have new posts.

EDIT: But there is on Upcoming releases. It’s just the two I mentioned above that are repeat offenders.
