Spent the bit of the day before the rain became biblical, digging out a drain, and weeding the Polytunnel.

Isabella | 1370 comments Had a busy sort of day today, moving a lot of stuff that has been badly organised ever since we moved but is now better placed. We came across a painting we’ve had for years and never liked much but it would suit a blank spot in this house. The frame was scratched and messy so I decided to paint it a different colour. It’s worked a treat, we both like the picture much better now the frame is changed. Just goes to show, if the frame isn’t right it can kill the painting.

The other thing that has me a bit puzzled concerns a delivery that failed to turn up. Allegedly, something I ordered from Amazon was delivered this afternoon but it wasn’t, so I sent an enquiry to the vendor. An automated reply came, written in French. It’s a British company. Not sure if it’s a joke or a mistake in their system but I expect I’ll find out when a human replies.

nocheese | 6824 comments Hey Snails!
In case you don’t know, ‘Out Of Order: A Saga’ can now be found in Games.
It’s a lot of fun, but it would definitely benefit from some fresh blood, by which I mean more contributors and ideas rather than actual blood, but that would be good too.

I find it's a bit of a minefield working out the genuine emails from the scam ones regarding deliveries, customs due etc etc.

I ignored one once saying duty was due on a UK parcel, a common issue since Brexit, and turns out it was genuine. The parcel got sent back. Unfortunate as it was christmas stuff from my mum! Who then paid to resend it. fks sake.

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Blastronaut Rocks.. (blastyulbynner) | 152 comments SOS

Washing machines! Ours has gone on the blink. It wants to (do (and does if ya give it chance) every cycle on 60! Well... every one but spin. When adjusting temp, after a couple of seconds it bounces right back up to 60. Already destroyed a couple of my T-shirts and owt else that it had its way with, comes out covered in white-ish marks.. so need washing again! But I can't!!

HELP folks. Please tell me there's a simple remedy... tho I rather doubt that. Anyone experienced said appliance misbehaving in such a manner? Can I kick it?? I would like to. That sometimes works don't it???

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Blastronaut Rocks.. (blastyulbynner) | 152 comments Nope?

Guess I'll wash stuff in bath tub till I get it sorted and spin in the machine. As you were.... or summat...

message 8865: by nocheese (new)

nocheese | 6824 comments Did you check if it was a problem with the electrics?

message 8866: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1370 comments Sorry, Blastro, just seen your posts. No idea about temperature, apart from turning off and leaving it for some time and trying again. Could be you need a new thermostat or something. White marks maybe down to the filter and seals being clogged with something. Are you in a hard water area? Limescale buildup can mark clothes. Don’t know if this is any help but it’s all I can think of. Good luck!

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Blastronaut Rocks.. (blastyulbynner) | 152 comments NC - Electrician dude who I only recently befriended works down London a lot and hasn't been for a while. It just don't look like a lecce problem. I'm certain the stains it leaves on the clothes is related.
Isabella - Filter is a clean as a whistle but.... what are the seals and where are they located? And please don't say 'Norfolk'. : )

message 8868: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1370 comments Just the rubber seals around the door, stuff can sometimes get trapped in the folds and where they fit the body of the machine. The only other thing I’ve come across is the detergent not dissolving properly, again related to hard water, and leaving streaks behind.

message 8869: by nocheese (new)

nocheese | 6824 comments I do think the fact that it keeps switching to 60 degrees must be down to an electrical fault

Bangkok Shocks, Saigon Shakes, Blastronaut Rocks.. (blastyulbynner) | 152 comments Ya could be right NC, I don't got much of a clue. Am wondering if it's still under warranty. Trying to think when we got it. Might not have been a year ago. I'm often kinda oblivious to the passing of time...

nocheese | 6824 comments Beautiful image, susie.

I have some sad news for those of you who remember Tom Boyle, or Bof as he was known on the old Zon threads. (He always signed off Best Bones, Bof.) He was a regular contributor to the Sunshine Music Club on Facebook, but sadly passed away last week after a long battle with cancer. He continued posting music until very near the end. Lovely man.

message 8878: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Awww, I remember first coming on the Music Forum on Amazon where everyone all seemed to know each other really well and one of the first people to post a friendly welcome to the Threads was Best Bones, Bof ... x

Isabella | 1370 comments So good you’re back, Suzy! You’ve been sorely missed. We’re just back from the Malvern show, lightly cooked, the sun has been out all day. Some gorgeous plants and our friend came second in several competition categories, which was good. She’s encouraging me to have a go next year but I think I’d have to try harder to stand any chance.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hiyah Isabella ... x ... every year I say this will surely (and sadly) be the last year my Dad is down the garden in the Greenhouse planting Tomatoes and Sweet Peas but miraculously he is still managing it with Mum's help and supervision and they are both out there checking on everything as I type.

The usual Tomato plants have already been planted but we are still waiting on the Tomtato plants to arrive by post (between late May and early June) from the Victoriana Nursery Gardens in Kent.

Gardening was the last thing my Dad gave up when he became terminally ill. It was his hobby and his solace, his tomatoes were the best. I'm growing tomatoes, cucumbers and blueberries, along with lots of herbs. Having a garden has saved me, especially in the last few years since we lost Helen. All the propaganda is true, in my opinion, gardening is a way through the dark ...

Helloooooo darling! A very long time no see! I've taken the habit of writting down every password change i do for my accounts (and yeah i know, one isn't supposed to do that - but how else am i meant to recall dozens of passwords?!)...but it doesn't always work. Like Val is suffering from at moment, gremlins in the works!

Nice to see you back sweetie, may Goodreads behave itself and let you join in the fun once more! :)

Val H. | 22146 comments theDuke wrote: "Like Val is suffering from at moment, gremlins in the works!...."

My gremlins were entirely of Goodreads' making! I email all my passwords to myself and store them in a folder names Passwords. Works great unless my email is hacked I guess. I've been logged in to both Amazon and Goodreads and still get this prominent red box which says:

1 error prohibited this comment from being saved.

A verification email has been sent.

Which is all well and good but yesterday it took 12 hours for that email to arrive. They must be working 9 - 5 in the northern hemisphere!

Many, many years ago I got the job of prompter when my university pals decided to put on two short plays. I can't remember the plays but I've always remembered the quote voiced by one of the characters:

One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.

(from a poem by Dorothy Frances Gurney). I'm not a believer but I'm stuck with that quote for the rest of my days.

My gran had that quote on a flower garden picture, one of those hazy pastels with hollyhocks and roses. I’m also stuck with it, in spite of my own unbelief!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I remember trying to be helpful to an elderly neighbour with her beautiful garden when I was a very young child (maybe 3 or 4 years old) by sneaking out early one morning and very carefully digging up her gorgeous Rose Bed with a large old tablespoon that I had often watched my Nan use to plant up pots in our garden! ;oO

It was only many years later that I suddenly realised just how incredibly lucky I was that she wasn't furious with me and instead she very kindly bought me a little garden tool set and showed me a much better place to continue to enjoy digging in her garden ;o>

Isabella | 1370 comments Did anyone but the Duke see the aurora last night? There wasn’t any sign in Malvern but the s-i-l saw it in Cornwall. I’ll have a go at putting one of his photos on my profile later. It was amazing and I feel very envious.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Oooh, a faint glimmer of hope for you, nocheese?! ... if you are based in Spain anywhere near Catalonia then you might get lucky and see something?

I was just checking online and I came across this ... "Rare northern lights seen across Catalonia sky" ...
https://www.catalannews.com/society-s...

message 8899: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1370 comments If you go on one of the ‘Northern lights excursions’ in Norway, Iceland etc, all the drivers and boat crews keep radio contact, so if someone sees them, the message goes out, ‘I’m at map ref xxx ,’ and all the guides shoot off to that spot in the hope they get there before the lights fade. We may be going back to Iceland in the autumn so maybe we’ll get lucky. I’m going to watch tonight. My brother in Coventry saw them about 11.00pm
