P Cobb | 580 comments Lurvly. Although the irony would pass completely over the heads of some knuckle draggers round here. 'Get me a macho-looking dog and do me duty by tekkin' it for a walk. Crappin' everywhere? Well, it's only natch, innit. Pick it up? F*** o**! YOU pick it up if you wannit. That's beneath me. Carry on yappin' abaht it an' you'll lose yer teeth, pal...' Or pleasantries to that effect, if the conversation were to even last that long.

On the other hand, then completely responsible owners with pleasant dogs will pass by and offer a warm greeting - and perhaps step right in what the previous one has left behind.

Think to be a dog patrol warden giving out on-the-spot fines to irresponsible owners for fouling (and for what their dogs might do, as well!) you would need a thick skin and a black belt in martial arts.

Craig White | 6727 comments there are reputedly six canine keech wardens in town, but i've yet to see one! i always challenge offenders, and offer a jobby sack free of charge if they roll out the old chestnut 'ah huvny goat a bag' - it's never been refused or not used! mrs tech says i'm too confrontational about it, but hey ho, this place is bad enough without it being coated in shight as well!

message 804: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments I applaud you. Some lads round here are as mean-looking as their Staffies and Rottweilers, though, and often in a gang. Think they would suggest where a bag could be inserted.

It got me thinking, though, with comparisons of today and days of my youth when dogs were just turned out to exercise themselves all day, when sights of dogs locked together in the act of coitus on the street were frequent. The occurence of 'doo-cones' on the footpath is fortunately quite rare, now, which is why it annoys when it happens. Now, it WAS a case of everywhere 'coated in shight' when I were a bairn. And, can anyone tell me, whatever happened to all the WHITE doggy-doo, that made it seem as if pooches had been feasting on Milky Bars???

Think someone might have to change the topic round to get others to start posting again!

Val H. | 22149 comments I'm sure doctoral theses have probably been written on the subject but this may be the answer:

Some of the comments are eyebrow-raising though!

message 806: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments back in the day when manufacturers thought it didn't really matter, they put a lot of chalk into dog food, which produced a pale stool!

thing is, staffies and rotties can be the sweetest dogs, just depends on the low-life at the other end of the lead, i also challenge those who walk such dogs off the lead, greeting with a hearty salutation such as 'if that dog goes for mine, i will soften it's ribs!', and unfortunately have had do do this on one occasion! didn't want to, but you got to protect your own!

Helen The Melon | 3422 comments Sorry, not changing the subject......I still occasionally see white dog poo in our village woods (lucky me). I also often see furry ones - dog poo that has started to go mouldy. Delightful.

Only P and Granny from the original Amazon Snails Thread contribute to this one - but a few of us from off the rest of the Group Forum (which is mainly dedicated to Music being as it was set up by the Amazon Music Forum) do love to bob in here and use this Thread to chat away on as well ;o>

As Suze says above, I'm an original snail from the Amazon Snails site and Grach also contributes under the name of 'Granny'. Lady Marion of the Islands started to post a while back but hasn't for a while.

We now have some new snails, however, and the thread is far healthier than it was in the last few years on Amazon. Welcome!

That is a great cartoon!
After the 29inches of snow we got last weekend, the mud is revitalized. It was 2 days of near-blizzard conditions. Now it's 50F and the melt is underway.
I'm rationing my Cadbury eggs. Running out will be painful.
I hope all are well.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hiyah Granny! ... x x x

I was thinking about you last night and worrying that we might have to think about setting up a Rescue Party with Shovels to come dig you out! - LOL!!!

We would, of course, have remembered to pack your most essential emergency supplies as well ;o>

message 828: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Bad news is, Grach, that I reckon Cadbury production has already turned to Christmas selection boxes!

It has been mighty weird weather here, as well, with temps rising and falling by the odd 20 degrees Celcius, based on what weather is being driven up or sucked up from Europe.

I see that they have been advertising that 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' is soon to come back to our screens - with Jeremy Clarkson as host! :0(

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Spring time is definitely here in Stockport ;o>...

Which means that Summer will soon be on it's way ;o> ...

message 830: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments It must be approaching summer, Suze, exams invigilation is almost upon us!

One night warm and sticky, next bliddy chilly again.

It wouldn't be the UK if we didn't discuss our peculiar weather, which isn't really that peculiar.

message 831: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Yep! - there's nothing peculiar at all about sitting out in the Back Garden sipping Iced Tea and getting a nice suntan one day, followed by a massive Thunder & Lightning Storm all evening, and night, and into the next morning, then having Hailstones as big as Marbles come crashing down all afternoon ... just our usual Spring-time weather here in the UK ;o>

P Cobb | 580 comments Cast not a clout till May be out... is that how the saying goes? Tried wearing a thinner jumper today and regretted it - perishing frozzed!

message 833: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It's been both warm and frozzling here - and sometimes even both at the same time! - LOL!!! ;o>

Sitting out, first the Sun gently shines and warms up your aching Bones nicely then ... WHOOSH! ... a bitter icy blast blows up out of nowhere and immediately freezes you right down to the very marrow!

message 835: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments My neighbour’s just been carted off in an ambulance, the paramedics had been there nearly 30 mins. She was wearing an oxygen mask but at least she was in a chair, not on a stretcher and her son’s with her.
She’s type 1 diabetic, had a stroke a year ago and suffers from heart failure. Lovely woman, I do hope she’ll be ok.

message 836: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Awww Lez Lee? - it might possibly be something to do with the sudden increase in Heat, if it is as warm there as it is here? It can have such a terrible effect on people with pre-existing conditions.

I've been weak and aching like absolute Hell from the inside of my Bones outwards all day today - and my Dad has been struggling to control his AF since Lunchtime and has had to go to bed.

message 837: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Luckily it’s only been 14° here!

message 838: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments WoW?! - it's been 23°C here but has gradually dropped down to 18°C over the last couple of hours and we now have a nice cooling Breeze ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments OMG! - I've just come across an absolutely fantastic Cake Recipe online! ;o>

It turned up in a Pop Up Video Box on MSN News and so I had to Google for it so that I could save it for future reference ...

The info about it reads ...

"More than 100 years ago, Emma Rylander Lane of Clayton, Alabama entered the annual baking competition at the county fair in Columbus, Georgia. She took first prize. The cake came to be known as The Lane Cake, and gained literary fame in 1960 when it was featured in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird. In March 1966, Southern Living featured the cake in its second issue. This stunning, flavorful layer cake is complete with a peachy makeover and an unforgettable meringue frosting.

This isn’t one of those desserts where you can pop in and out of the kitchen; it takes some effort, but the moist cake is totally worth the wait. Packed with Southern flavors like toasted pecans, coconut flakes, and dried peaches, it’s sure to be the food favorite at any occasion, and is an excellent treat to offer guests. The Lane Cake is topped with a Peach Schnapps-infused frosting that’s both incredibly unique and fluffy. Bourbon is one of the primary components in the dessert, which helps the flavor to improve as it ages"

... the filling just looks SO incredibly yummy that I have just GOT to try this Recipe out! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It does, doesn't it Martin? ;o>

A very rich (and slightly boozy!) fruity and tangy Filling that is a huge improvement on our Nation's particular preference for quite boring Jam Fillings - and I really like the idea of a Peach Snapps Meringue Frosting too.

I love to collect Cake Recipes with a bit of History and a good story to them.

Isabella | 1370 comments Taking a hint from about good things from 'Life's little niggles', I'm delighted to announce that a rose I was trying to rescue seems to be reviving. It had grown a long thick stem from being too crowded and in the wrong place, so last winter I moved it and a few weeks ago cut it right down to 6 inches, more in hope than expectation. The little sweetie has just started sprouting in two places. Made my day!

message 847: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Our car was reading 28 degrees yesterday. Went to a football match and our seats placed us in strong sunshine the whole game. Glad I decided to take a hat. At end of game, first aiders were tending to an old chap who was looking a funny colour and absolutely not with it. Hopefully that was just down to the heat and nothing else. He was wearing a jumper over his shirt and temps were sky high. Our house was cool. I originally dressed in 2 shirts and a coat. As soon as I ventured outside, went straight back in and peeled layers off!

Temp today is already hotter than yesterday and forecast even higher tomorrow. I am aware that by next weekend we will most likely drop by about 20 degrees!!!

Was on elections duty Thursday and Friday. Poll Station Thurs and doing the count on Friday. Long day and like a zombie through lack of sleep by Friday night. Anybody else do the elections?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments P wrote: "Anybody else do the elections?"

To be absolutely honest, P, I didn't vote this year - as I just felt so incredibly awful the other day that just the idea of having a Shower and doing my Hair ready to go out and face the world was quite simply beyond me.

I shouldn't really make any excuses for myself but we continually always have the same Parties voted in here where I live - and by such an overwhelmingly massive majority too than no-one else ever stands even a vague chance in going up against them - and so I didn't feel all that bad about not exercising my right to vote this year.

message 850: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Same situation here. Since year dot always has been the one party that gets in by such an overwhelming majority that the local council is nigh on a one-party state. For years I have tended to vote tactically ie in a vain attempt to reduce the majority by one vote - just to keep the powers that reign on their metal!

My question was relating more so to WORKING on the elections, however, rather than voting. And then, exams invigilation season re-starts in just over a week.
