Brass Neck | 3979 comments Took Minnie to her first 'puppy' training session today, a year late (she's now 20 months) and after 2 sessions had been called off at the last minute due to inclement weather; I was the only owner who turned up!

On the way I had to skirt the edge of Louth where two road signs had been hugely defaced with the word(?) 'Vaxkill' in big red letters. Might as well have sprayed 'Fukwitz'?

Oh, always something very sad about a deceased persons house being cleared out.
I guess Les was keeping the Betamax 'just in case'.

I'm sure none of us is surprised! Les was very proud of her Betamax machines.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Err, just to confirm my mistake re a post I put up t'other day - the fella who Johnson shuffles out to address the public about Covid ( the one who's a dead ringer for Abe from Hellboy) is in fact the CMO and not the 'Science Dude' as I mistakenly put it. That's the problem with me; 95% of what I write on here is off the top of me head and I guess I'm too damn lazy to check me facts.
Anyhow, regardless of who's the Science Dude and who's the 'Medical Dude' the song - from my POV at least - remains the same.

There... now I'm sure you'll all sleep a little better now that you know that I know who the real identity of said Abraham lookalike... : )

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Well, I hardly touch a drop and haven't done for many years but always have a bottle of Jack stashed for occasions. This NYE I shall have a drink to Les' memory whilst I'm doing same for Mother who passed on the first day of this year. Pardon me French but it's been a bastard of a year.
As usual I don't plan going anywhere a week on Fri and I may even pop on here for 5 mins and see if anyone else stayed in.

What can I say? I have any number of specific Australian Christmas albums and yes, they do reference sun, heat, seafood, etc. The writer missed a couple :

and

"How To Make Gravy" is so iconic there wouldn't be an Aussie of any age who couldn't sing all the lyrics. The 2021 video is particularly poignant and apt:

She's 'Molly', my oldest daughter named her, just after she arrived.

A new Puppy is great fun, hard work, but great fun.

Does welcoming Molly into the family mean that you have very sadly had to say farewell and have your elderly and increasingly poorly little hairy woofer put to sleep, Tim?

It'll be soon, nearly did before Christmas. She's very old now, and her quality of life is low. The Dog that is, not anyone else in the family. :0

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments A poem to bid farewell to 2021 and welcome in 2022 ...

New Day's Lyric

May this be the day
We come together.
Mourning, we come to mend,
Withered, we come to weather,
Torn, we come to tend,
Battered, we come to better.
Tethered by this year of yearning,
We are learning
That though we weren't ready for this,
We have been readied by it.
We steadily vow that no matter
How we are weighed down,
We must always pave a way forward.

This hope is our door, our portal.
Even if we never get back to normal,
Someday we can venture beyond it,
To leave the known and take the first steps.
So let us not return to what was normal,
But reach toward what is next.

What was cursed, we will cure.
What was plagued, we will prove pure.
Where we tend to argue, we will try to agree,
Those fortunes we forswore, now the future we foresee,
Where we weren't aware, we're now awake;
Those moments we missed
Are now these moments we make,
The moments we meet,
And our hearts, once all together beaten,
Now all together beat.

Come, look up with kindness yet,
For even solace can be sourced from sorrow.
We remember, not just for the sake of yesterday,
But to take on tomorrow.

We heed this old spirit,
In a new day's lyric,
In our hearts, we hear it:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
Be bold, sang Time this year,
Be bold, sang Time,
For when you honor yesterday,
Tomorrow ye will find.
Know what we've fought
Need not be forgot nor for none.
It defines us, binds us as one,
Come over, join this day just begun.
For wherever we come together,
We will forever overcome.

(Amanda Gorman)

Val H. | 22149 comments I doubt I'll be around to see your New Year in but it's 11.38pm now so I should make the downunder New Year. I've got my Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry and a couple of mince pies (no black bun, no tall dark men carrying a lump of coal) so I'll be able to toast all my Goodreads friends and those we've lost. Jan 1st was my Mum's birthday - she would have been 95 tomorrow; she died too young. But it's not a time for being maudlin. We were lucky to have special people in our lives. I get a good laugh remembering how horrified Les would be - sherry and mince pies AND I watched White Christmas on Christmas Eve.

And yet just up the road in Glasgow it’s 12 degrees and dry, in fact we had sunshine earlier. What has East Ayrshire done to displease the gods? Sorry to hear about your thumb and your poorly doggie. And there’s nothing like work the next day to put a blight on the Hogmanay festivities. I’m working tonight, but finishing at 11pm, so will be welcoming the new year in with a 10 year old Jura.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments I'll drink to that Val... and Happy New Year!!

Just thinking of Lez and it made me remember a couple more that we, as a community, have lost going back to the days of 'zon. Not too long after I first arrived on there, a poster by the name of Hypergod passed away. I never really got to know him but he seemed to be a popular fella. Then of course there was Mark Kibble a few ears after that. Am sure most of ya remember MK but anyone remember Hyper? I'm betting there's still two or three folk about who might. Keep thinking that others are gone but I'm coming up with a blank. Shame on me if I have forgotten.

Anyways... to absent family and friends...

message 8196: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments And then there's many posters that've not followed us over here for whatever reasons, some that I miss, some that I don't. Would be a shame to think any of em didn't make it here because they simply missed the boat. Sod it, I'll drink to them as well...

message 8197: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Been a change of plan at this abode. Not just J, Blastromite and meself stopping in now; all members of Clan B (incl partners) bar one, are stopping in. The one (our middle lad) in question was never gonna contemplate stopping in the house. Too much like his father when he wuz a young un. Anyway, that means that they'll be partying here so I'll not totally commit to coming on here later. We'll have to see. Being as I don't really drink more than a couple of shots nowadays I might even duck out up to bed before the year's in. Like I said, we shall see.

Happy New Year folks, have a jolly good un.

Val H. | 22149 comments I remember Hyper. He was still posting when I joined the old Zon threads. Seemed like a good bloke and loved his classic rock. But not long after he suffered from complications due to diabetes I think. I remember quite a few posters went to his funeral and conveyed to his wife how highly he was thought of.

I think when Zon started winding down, a number of posters regrouped via Facebook. Many of them had met up at various PPUs and are probably still knocking around somewhere. RAB, JohnnyBee, Wharf Rat, MC, Schiz, Greysuit, Toffeeman, Telly Addict, Cornish, Krytical, Starship Trooper, BOF, Tommo, Liquidator, Dragonlord, Mondo Ray, Knocked Out ....Woke Up 1973, Gingerlily are just some of the names I remember. All missed on here.

Mark Kibble was particularly kind to me as a newbie and helped me with burning tracks, making compilations, downloading/uploading and distributing them. He was a lovely man.
