EUUUWWW!!! ;oO
I couldn't quite believe the size of it as I eased out through the Hole! ... if it had been an adult I would probably have had to get help to make the Hole bigger! And the shock of all that would surely have just killed the poor thing!
Mum made sure that she had our Shed Painter's Mobile Number to Hand as he also just happens to be a Firefighter at our Local Station - but everything turned out to be so easy and calm and all over within half an hour and then he spent hours in the Back Garden being fed and pampered by his Mummy ... still looking grubby despite using the Birdbath! ... and the Birdbath water was absolutely filthy afterwards! - LOL!!! ;o>
We were sure that both of our Chimneys were capped but he still managed to fall down one of them somehow?! - and so we are going to ask our Neighbour, who is currently in the midst of having a huge Two Storey Back Extension built onto their House, for the Phone Number of their Roofers so that they can go up, and take a look, and see what needs to be done.
We got very lucky this time and the baby Magpie seems to be fine and none the worse for his great adventure - but I can't bear the thought of it ever happening again.

"A garden gnome’s been held ransom by thieves in Scotland, who demand cheesecake in exchange for its freedom"

"It was a case of ‘go hard or go gnome’ for thieves in Scotland, after they took a café’s garden gnome hostage in exchange for two cheesecakes.
Butternut Squash Cafe, in Portobello, Edinburgh, seemingly first reported issues with the gnome on Monday, when it returned to the café after going missing the day before.
However, things escalated on Thursday, when the owners received an ominous note about the fate of their ornament.
“We have your gnome. If you want to see him again leave two cheesecakes when you shut the café. We will be watching,” the letter, shared on Facebook, reads.

Clearly experienced in the art of negotiation, the café initially offered a compromise, sharing a snap later that day of two pieces of shortbread outside the venue.
“Kidnappers your treasure awaits,” they wrote.
The cafe failed to ‘squash’ the thieves, though, who were rather underwhelmed by the offering which was different to what they asked for.
“Shortbread! We asked for cheesecake! You have 24 hours or your gnome gets dusty binned,” their latest message, accompanied with an image of a smashed gnome, reads.
The café added: “We will not negotiate with gnomenappers. #BringHimHome.”
Customers have since seen the funny side, with some even offering the café some replacements.
“We have a new butternut friend,” they revealed on Friday. “Ps cheesecake is sold out for now.”
Commenters have described the debacle as “brilliant”, with one saying it was “like a soap opera”.
“Ruthless and lawless with a sweet tooth. Dangerous combination,” said one.
Another added: “I hope they don’t start sending body parts back to you.”
It’s been more than 24 hours now since the threat of the gnome being “dusty binned” was made, and the café is yet to provide an update on whether their original gnome is still in one piece.
The case continues ... "

"Scientists convert used Plastic Bottles into Vanilla Flavouring"

"Plastic bottles have been converted into vanilla flavouring using genetically engineered bacteria, the first time a valuable chemical has been brewed from waste plastic.
Upcycling plastic bottles into more lucrative materials could make the recycling process far more attractive and effective. Currently plastics lose about 95% of their value as a material after a single use. Encouraging better collection and use of such waste is key to tackling the global plastic pollution problem.
Researchers have already developed mutant enzymes to break down the polyethylene terephthalate polymer used for drinks bottles into its basic units, terephthalic acid (TA). Scientists have now used bugs to convert TA into vanillin.
Vanillin is used widely in the food and cosmetics industries and is an important bulk chemical used to make pharmaceuticals, cleaning products and herbicides. Global demand is growing and in 2018 was 37,000 tonnes, far exceeding the supply from natural vanilla beans. About 85% of vanillin is currently synthesised from chemicals derived from fossil fuels.
Joanna Sadler, of the University of Edinburgh, who conducted the new work, said: “This is the first example of using a biological system to upcycle plastic waste into a valuable industrial chemical and it has very exciting implications for the circular economy.”
Stephen Wallace, also of the University of Edinburgh, said: “Our work challenges the perception of plastic being a problematic waste and instead demonstrates its use as a new carbon resource from which high value products can be made.”
About 1m plastic bottles are sold every minute around the world and just 14% are recycled. Currently even those bottles that are recycled can only be turned into opaque fibres for clothing or carpets.
The research, published in the journal Green Chemistry, used engineered E coli bacteria to transform TA into vanillin. The scientists warmed a microbial broth to 37C for a day, the same conditions as for brewing beer, Wallace said. This converted 79% of the TA into vanillin.
Next the scientists will further tweak the bacteria to increase the conversion rate further, he said: “We think we can do that pretty quickly. We have an amazing roboticised DNA assembly facility here.” They will also work on scaling up the process to convert larger amounts of plastic. Other valuable molecules could also be brewed from TA, such as some used in perfumes.
Ellis Crawford, of the Royal Society of Chemistry, said: “This is a really interesting use of microbial science to improve sustainability. Using microbes to turn waste plastics, which are harmful to the environment, into an important commodity is a beautiful demonstration of green chemistry.”
Recent research showed bottles are the second most common type of plastic pollution in the oceans, after plastic bags. In 2018, scientists accidentally created a mutant enzyme that breaks down plastic bottles, and subsequent work produced a super-enzyme that eats plastic bottles even faster."

They used to pile them into a Box outside and then sell them off at around 20p to £1 each and you never knew, until you had a good rummage, what you might find for sale ... and sometimes they also sold off CDs and Audio Books as well ;o>

She always absolutely loves being tucked in at night - and it's felt really odd to us all, as well as clearly being very disappointing to her, not to be doing so recently because of the intense heat we are having here.
And it gets to become a habit ... whenever someone gets up during the night and walks past her on the way to the Loo or off downstairs for a Drink ... to always stop just to lift and rearrange her Blanket much more over her ;o>
Whenever she changes position she always turns herself around so very carefully and is clearly doing it to try to keep her Blankie on her - LOL!!!
We are always aware of just how incredibly blessed we are to still have her with us - as she will be 13 years old in July - and she clearly loves being such a pampered little comfort bunny these days! ;o>

I seem to have 'lost' the best part of three days but luckily I've managed to get to sleep on and off throughout most of it - and have miraculously been able to sleep more hours over the last weekend than I normally get to sleep in total in over a month! - LOL!!! ;o>
It's sad to say that I completely missed Father's Day ... but I had Cards and Gifts all ready for my Dad, he doesn't seem to have noticed that I wasn't around, and apparently I managed to order in a Chinese Meal for him and Mum?! ... although I've been SO out of it at times that I honestly don't actually remember anything at all about me doing this?!! ;oO
I'm just going to check that I didn't decide to go nuts and do any other spending on my Card while I was clearly delirious and off visiting La-la Land - and then I'm off back to Bed again ;o>

I actually thought that my Mum was joking with me at first?! - but no, the Receipt for it is there in my Inbox, and the Meal was apparently much appreciated and enjoyed - after M&D had got over their surprise at the Delivery Guy unexpectedly turning up on the Doorstep at Teatime on Sunday night! - LOL!!! ;o>

We then voted to watch 30 year old home movies which we've at last had converted to DVD. Great fun! Today we all went out for lunch and came home for coffee and daughter's Burnt Butter Hazelnut cake with Roasted Rhubarb.

Needless to say I haven't bothered with dinner. A few glasses of water was all I needed. Another friend called by in the morning (I think we broke Covid restrictions with having 3 guests in the house - but it's back up to 15 from Friday so I don't feel too guilty). And then there was a delivery of flowers - I wonder who they could be from????
Tomorrow it's the podiatrist (have to say I'm quite enjoying the free visits - they haven't totally resolved the spur but the attention is quite luxurious) followed by lunch with the Mothers' Club (except it should be the Grandmothers' Club - we've been lunching together about every 6 weeks for over 25 years. It used to be dining out but now we're old, we prefer daylight hours). I'll have coffee with other friends on Friday morning and then on Saturday, the theatre is back up. I've had to reschedule these tickets twice but feel lucky to be going now that the audience is limited to 50% and masks must be worn. A busy week - but next week is looking much quieter so I might get back to doing some work around the house and garden.

... what a truly wonderful fun-packed few days, Val!!! ... ;o> ... ;o> ... ;o>
... and I'm SO jealous to hear of all of the yummy Meals and delicious Cakes - LOL!!! ;o>

And Suzy, I hope you feel a bit more, erm, "normal" soon. ;-)

Sorry to hear you've been poorly Suzy, hope you make a speedy recovery. :-)

I reckon that my usual level of "normal" is somewhere around being just slightly less nuttier than a large Jar of Sun Pat Crunchy Peanut Butter, Helen! - LOL!!! ;o>
But ordering in a Takeaway without being able to remember that I did?! - well that is certainly a first (and hopefully only ever just a one-off kind of weird) for me!!!

He keeps on chasing all of the other Birds away from any Food that is put out even when he doesn't want it for himself ... and claiming the Birdbath as his very own Day Spa ... and, to cap it all, my Mum has been ever-so-patiently waiting on a tiny Cutting that she planted out over 3 years ago now FINALLY establishing itself enough this year to develop 4 little Flowers on it ... only to see the tantruming twerp of a Toddler Bird march straight up to it at Lunch-time and use it's Beak to decapitate her precious Plant by ripping all 4 Flowers off it!!! ;oO
Mum has been swearing and muttering away under her Breath all afternoon ... threatening to climb up onto the Roof with it, shove it back down the Chimney, and even light a Fire underneath it this time around!!! - LOL!!! ;o>

He looked Kudos up Online but couldn't manage to get into the Spare Parts Page on their Website - so he rang Kudos Customer Service who told him that they "aren't allowed to access it to check anything out or order anything for him" ... ? ... and they referred him back to their Website again via a Link that he still couldn't make work.
He decided to ring up the Hardware place where we originally bought the Shower Cubicle from and they said "no problem" and that they would soon get the replacement parts for him ... but then they rang Dad back to say that they couldn't access the Kudos Spare Parts Page either and, after trying for a couple of hours to get through to the Supplier Support Dept of Kudos Customer Services, they were told the same thing and were also given an unuseable Website Link.
And when the Hardware place rang Kudos back again, which again took several more hours, Kudos Customer Service said that they had been experiencing Website 'glitches' for some time now and acknowledged that the Link that they were giving out didn't work for anyone(!) but still said that they, as Kudos, couldn't do anything to help?!!
All that they could say was that the Wheels would cost about £10! ... EACH!!! ... for a tiny (19mm) round piece of Stainless Steel with a little bit of plastic wrapped around it! ;oO
And basically it would seem that Kudos has got a Customer Service that is pretty much a few folk who are actually being paid to sit at the other end of a Phone just so that they can tell any Kudos Customers who get through to them that there is, in fact, no Kudos Customer Service Care and also no way of anyone using their Website to buy anything anyway?!! ;oO
Hmmm? ... okay?!! ... well, on a scale of really wacky weirdness and sheer utter flippin' pointlessness that surely has to weigh in and score something somewhere, doesn't it? - LOL!!!
Dad, typically, did all of this before telling me about it - and Mum was getting furious with him by then because he had spent almost the whole day on the Landline, and she was wondering why, and also worrying about what he was up to and whether he was ringing up any expensive Helpline Numbers and running up the Phone Bill.
She wanted him to tell me about it, but he wouldn't because he was adamant that he knew what he was doing and didn't need any help whatsoever ... so, in the end, it was Mum, very late last night, who snook in to my Room as soon as he was asleep and told me all about it instead.
I have just signed up for yet another (WOO-HOO!!! - thank you Amazon!!! ;o>) Free Trial of Prime - so I went on Amazon's Website - and within less than a minute I had found some replacement Roller Wheels at just £6.20 for a pack of 8 with hundreds of almost all 5 or 4 Star Reviews to recommend them AND with Prime's Free Next Day Delivery as well. I ordered them at gone half past two this morning, they dispatched them within the hour, and they arrived on our Doorstep at 20 past 10! ;o>
It has only taken M&D barely a few minutes to fit a couple and we now have a Shower Door that very easily slides open and closed again ... with absolutely no kudos at all to Kudos for their quite extraordinary non-existent Customer Service ... ! ... ;o>
YAYYY!!! - Amazon! - I love ya!!! ;o>

I've got another Amazon Order that is due to arrive sometime later on this afternoon ;o>
It's a little Watering Can for indoor use ... yes! - I know?!! ... I really do live such an unbelievably thrilling Life that is jam-packed with so many exciting moments that are simply way beyond most folk's wildest imaginations, don't I?!! ... HA HA HA HA HA!!! ... ;o> ... ;o> ... ;o>
So? - what on Earth is SO surprising and rather special about this £4.49 green plastic 1.5 Litre Watering Can? ... well, I honestly dunno?! - but I can tell you that I ordered it from Amazon EU three days ago and have since discovered that it has been very busy what with it travelling all the way from Amazon Casirate d’Adda in Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy! ... having initiated and then completed the Custom Clearance Process at Mouscron in Hainaut near Tourcoing in Belgium ... and then completed Custom Clearance in Tilbury in the UK before travelling on through Rochester, Medway in Kent to Saint Helens in Merseyside until it reached the Amazon Fulfillment Centre in Manchester ... where it has been scheduled to be dropped off here at my House at around 6pm today!
Seriously? - it costs less than a fiver and it's come all the way from Italy via Belgium?!! ;oO ...

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...
... and I'm SO tempted to try and dent it just so that I can send it back again - with me boxed into the Parcel as well! - and also get to travel across Europe for free this Summer! ... even if does mean that I end up in being put up onto a high dusty Warehouse Shelf in Bergamo with a load of little Plastic Watering Cans! - LOL!!! ;o>
I'm just hoping against hope now that the Box that it comes in is going to be big enough to take me, and my Mum, and maybe a small Suitcase as well! ;o>

I've got another Amazon Order that is due to arrive sometime later on this afternoon ;o>
It's a little Watering Can for indoor..."
Don't forget the picnic basket, Suzy ;o)

Then I'll just need to sneak into the Grocery Section and grab a few yummies for the Hamper before searching through the Book Section for a Phrase Book and a Guide Book to Lombardy ;o>

I must be honest and say that, as much as I absolutely adore Cheese - and also Pasta as well - I've never understood why Macaroni Cheese is a Dish that is such a HUGE deal as well as a firm favourite of so many people?
However, I've only ever tried it a few times ... first at a friend's House, then in a Cafe where it was listed on the Menu as being 'famous' and their Signature Dish, and I once tried a Heinz tinned version to see if maybe that would prove itself to be any nicer ... but no? ... I was always incredibly disappointed to find myself eating nothing at all special or memorable ... just an extremely boring and bland plateful of ever-so-slightly sticky gooey stuff? ;o<
However, I think that based on it's HUGE popularity and it mostly being made up of some of my all-time most favourite Foods ever as it's Ingredients, I've very likely been badly misled by being offered very poor substitutes for the real deal ... maybe caused by such cost-cutting measures as using cheap bog-standard and totally flavourless Cheese?
And, having read through the Neil Perry Recipe, I'm now actually sat drooling here! ;o>
I mean ... it's also got Garlic, Dijon Mustard, Black Pepper and Paprika ... AND Smoked Bacon! - and I absolutely LOVE Smoked Bacon as well ... Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes!!! ;o>
Who knows? - one day I might come across something like this and discover a new favourite - one that could almost even come to rival with my ongoing and undying love for Spaghetti Carbonara? ;o>

And now I know how they work I dunno what sounds worst anymore?!! - a Garden that is full of relentless greedy Root-eating Vine Weevils or a Garden that is full of 'seek and destroy' Body-inhabiting Blood-poisoning Nematodes?!! ... (*shudder*) ...

It is apparently now in it's new Home down in the Greenhouse - which means that I can't get to use MY Watering Can to top up the indoor Plants and Flowers as I had intended ... so I'm either going to have to keep on with having to use the rather awkward and heavy Gravy Boat from M&D's best Dinner Service? ... or buy myself another one? ... ! ! !
;o>

I think you should treat yourself to this one instead, espesh as you like pink so much ;-)
And it's only £5.99. Bargain.

Sometimes I just use the kettle (with cold water in it obvs) or a large measuring jug if I can't be bothered fishing out anything more suitable. Might have to invest in a pink flamingo now that I've seen it. ;-)

Even though I generally hate the colour pink - it's bright and it's fun and it makes me laugh out loud so I love it!!! ;o>

3.0 out of 5 stars ... Not a great deal of use as a watering can
Reviewed by Charlie B. in the United Kingdom on 23 January 2019
"I ordered this after drinking as I notice the other half was watering the house plants with a glass of water.
It arrived, she still waters the house plants with a glass of water.
Determined to use it I attempted to water the house plants with this, and found that as the hole for the spout is 1/3rd of the way up the beak, nothing comes out, then water jets out at 90 degrees.
I now water the house plants with a glass of water.
Ideal gift for someone you don't particularly like."

I'm not a fan of pink either & wouldn't normally have anything so tasteless and plasticky in the house (ooh) but now I'm considering adding it to my next order. Help!
I can't imagine what the spider that lives in your peace lily is going to say when it sees the googly eyes of your pink flamingo watering can looming towards it?
Edit: Yes, I looked at a few of the reviews too. It doesn't sound terribly practical, does it? :-(

The Peace Lily seems to be happy enough with this way of watering it ... but I don't know if the little Spider will continue to make it? It used to have a small spot of something black'ish inside of it so I knew that it was managing to feed off something and you do sometimes get the odd teeny tiny Insect scurrying around inside the Plant Pots so I'm thinking that maybe it's been feeding off those?
However I haven't seen any other activity for a few months now and the Spider, although it is now over twice the size that it originally was, has stayed a very pale and completely translucent colour for some time now and they can't live forever on nothing ;o<
I'm wondering if I might dare try to carefully repot the Lily and live in hope that a fresh Potting Mix might come with a little something extra in it - as I've read Reviews on Amazon that say that some kinds of Potting Mix can unfortunately often come with some kind of little Insect infestation as well!
I don't really want to make a decision to remove and rehome it as it is where it has chosen to be and is apparently where it wants to carry on staying.

There is a little Boy around the corner who has just started going with his Dad to set up their new Allotment Plot a few roads away from here. I know that it's his 6th Birthday next week and so I thought he might enjoy using this? ... if I can bear to part with it, that is?!! ;o>

A night of mental mitheriness and no sleep for me ... so I've tucked Moo up in Bed, done some Housework, re-tucked Moo up in Bed, misted or watered all of the Pot Plants, tucked Moo up in Bed again, made a Chicken Soup for Lunch out of the leftover carcass, tucked Moo up in Bed, tidied and topped up all of the Flower Vases, re-tucked Moo up in Bed once more, updated the Channels on M&D's TV in the Lounge, finished doing 3 batches of Laundry, just taken Moo for a piddle and ... tucked her up back in Bed! ;o>

I still like the flamingo one the best, although I do love chameleons (and The Chameleons are one of my fave bands). The chameleon one doesn't hold enough water for my needs and I'm too old to use it - it's only recommended for ages 36 months to 12 yrs. ;-)
If you do get the flamingo, Suzy, let me know what it's like so that I know whether to get one too.

Unfortunately proving that a little hairy woofer can't eat and bark at the same time ... there's been almost an hour now of coughing and spluttering and back-patting and calming down - plus I've had to go around searching out and cleaning sprayed-out bits of Dog Meat (Burns Penlan Lamb & Carrots) off the Carpet and the Walls in the Hallway and the Kitchen! ;oO
She's SO upset, she's stomped off and put herself back to Bed ... so I've just been up to make sure she is still okay and tucked her in ... again! ;o>

If I went for either of the Birds then it would most definitely have to be the Toucan, Helen, because I really do have quite a strong aversion to pink and I also prefer the shape of it too - plus it's got such a lovely bright shade of orange to it and I'm always drawn to orange as it's my favourite colour ;o>
I'll probably just end up in buying the exact same dinky little Watering Can as last time though - as it comes in a much deeper and far nicer shade of green than is shown in the picture, it's the perfect size for my needs and the chunky Handle felt really nice and comfortable in my Hands.
The Toucan, though, really does have me very seriously tempted! ...

The local authority have, for the last two years, adopted a policy of leaving large areas of the grass uncut and as a result the park is full of native wildflowers and grasses that look absolutely lovely. I can recognise at least twenty varieties and there are more I don't know. All they have to do is nothing but cut the flower area once a year. :o)
