suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh, that's really good to hear, Nick ;o>

I just want to get the House sorted out so that we can all still manage to carry on with living here with as much independence as is possible for the rest of our lives.

Nothing recent and modern in style had quite the same special quality and Eye appeal to me, and I knew M&D would feel the same way about anything that I showed them, so I decided to go vintage instead and match up any new Furniture with what we already have here.

I'd much rather spend between £500 to £700 on a really lovely and very stylish looking 1960's -70's Ercol Solid Elm Drinks Cabinet than be spending £500 to £700 on a brand new plain and chunky looking Solid Oak or Wood Veneer Home Office Cabinet with modern Handles and little Wood Grain to appreciate - something that would always look completely out of place with every other piece of Furniture that we already have.

M&D have always been SO frustratingly indecisive - and this has sadly become something in them both that has got even worse as they have aged. The reality is we haven't got many years of family life left in this House to be wasted on spending SO long in thinking about everything we need now ... and it took them over 30 years just to finally choose and commit themselves to buying new Carpets!!! ... so I tend these days to go ahead and surprise them with what I've chosen once it's already picked out and paid for.

I know what they like and so ... if we need it and I see it? ... then I get it! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Val wrote: "That drinks cabinet is beautiful Suzy! When you get your corner cabinet delivered, why don't you mention it to the seller. If he's in the furniture business, he might be able to keep an eye out for..."

A very tempting idea that I had already considered, Val, but then decided against it - as there are still a few of these Cabinets that bob up mostly on eBay - but the quality and finish and condition of a lot of them often really isn't good enough and I definitely don't want to be taking on any Restoration Project he might come across!

I'd much prefer to keep an Eye out for one myself instead than have one presented to me. If he comes across one he'll be sure to buy it to sell it on anyway because they are extremely collectable pieces of Furniture.

I'm also paying more than I really would have liked to have done for the Ercol Corner Cabinet and can well imagine the huge Profit Margin that he would very likely put onto an Ercol Drinks Cabinet!

I'll be keeping a keen Eye out now that I know where to go looking ;o>

Slow in Ireland. But I did hear yesterday, a good friend of ours is going to get her first jab. She's only 40 or nearly 40, but has a number of serious health issues, and has been shielding for a long while.

Shielding has been such an incredibly lonely, spirit-crushing, and alienating experience for so many and it really has gone on for SOOO long now that I was really struggling to keep on with believing that we would ever get to return to the World beyond our Front Door.

I'll still be housebound here, due mainly to lack of opportunities and enablement, but at least I will hopefully be able to go out for essential Appointments again without always feeling quite so scared and panicked by whether other people are as concerned as I am about the potential consequences of catching Covid and are still continuing to do their best to try to keep themselves and others safe.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments A fantastic new Recycling Scheme has just been set up by TerraCycle® ;o>

They have just created a free Recycling Programme for any brand of empty Medicine Blister Packs. This is a sustainability initiative which will enable billions of Medicine Blister Packs to be recycled instead of spending a lifetime in Landfill.

Once collected the empty Blister Packs are separated by Polymer type and cleaned (if necessary). The material is then extruded into Plastic Pellets which are sold on to to manufacturing Companies who produce end-products - completing the journey of recycling.

These end products may include Outdoor Furniture and Decking, Plastic Shipping Pallets, Watering Cans, Storage Containers and Bins, Tubes for Construction Applications, Flooring Tiles, Playground Surface Covers and much more.

TerraCycle® has created this Scheme through a partnership with Sanofi, a French Pharmaceutical Company and maker of products such as Buscopan and Dulcolax, and is now providing Drop Off Points for Consumers at many Independent Pharmacies across the UK.

The Superdrug Pharmacy Chain will also be participating - with the initiative aiming to reach at least 400 of their stores within this first year. Superdrug are currently supporting Marie Curie with each empty Blister Pack that gets recycled as part of the ‘Little Packs, Big Impact’ Scheme. So? - it's easy and it's free - and it also has the double whammy of recycling AND earning Rewards that will help to support a fantastic Charity as well ;o>

Just find your nearest participating Superdrug Pharmacy or Local Pharmacy on the Interactive Map and drop off your empty Medicine Blister Packs during their opening hours.

! ! ! ... well, I could-of also asked for Chocolate for all four of the Sponge layers AND all of the three Filling layers as well! - but I thought that there was already going to be more than enough Chocolate on top and all around it ... even for an utterly obsessed lifelong Chocoholic like my Mum! - LOL!!! ;o>

I'm keeping it local again - this time by ordering Mum's Cake from a very young yet extremely talented Cake Baker/Creator who only got into Baking very recently by becoming the main Creator and Supplier of all of the Cakes, Traybakes, and Sweet Treats for her Mum & Dad's fabulous award-winning local Cafe last year.

The Pandemic, particularly with all of it's continual National and Local Lock-downs here in the NorthWest, came to massively increase demand for Doorstep Deliveries of all of the Treat Boxes and the much larger individual Cakes that she was starting to experiment with creating - and all of this added custom has now enabled her to branch out, take on her own Staff, and set herself up in an extremely successful side business alongside the family's Cafe ;o>

I've been so thrilled and delighted just in watching her remarkable progress through all of the absolutely fabulous Cake Pictures that she has posted up on Facebook over this last year - as she clearly has such an amazing talent, a genuine passion for Baking, an exacting Eye for the most minute detail and for fabulous colour combinations, and also for perfect finishes/presentations as well. I can hardly bear to wait and see what she is going to come up with for my Mum's Cake on Saturday ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Anita wrote: "Hi Suzy,A very happy birthday to your mum on Saturday, enjoy your lovely cake."

Thanks Anita ... x

A far simple and much more low-key Birthday this year following on from the big 8 0 of last year.

Just an absolutely ENORMOUS full-on-and-in-your-face every kind of Chocolate and thensome Cake ... and a huge Hand-tied Bouquet of Flowers from our favourite Florists booked for Home Delivery on Saturday ... and a Debit Card that is still somewhat in shock at paying out on the overall cost these days of these two absolutely essential Birthday Gifts! - LOL!!! ;o>

I remember when I was a little Girl and it was always the thing to do back then to spend several month's worth of Pocket Money on a small cheapo pack of Bath Salts and a set of three Embroidered Hankies for Mum's Birthday every year. I dunno why? - but I got so very little Pocket Money as a Child and it was pretty much all that ever seemed to be available in the Shops as affordable Gifts back in the 70's?

Poor Mum never really had any interest or use for either Gift so I hope that I'm getting there now on making up for all of those early years of feigned delight and well-hidden disappointment! - LOL!!! ;o>;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments ;o> ... ! ! ! SO, SO, SO ... HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY ! ! ! ... ;o>

Apart from just barely managing to squeeze in a very quick (and unfortunately not nearly short enough) Trim way back in July of last year during the 25 days between March 2020 and April 2021 that Stockport wasn't under continual Lock-down, I've not had my Hair cut now since January 2020, and it is now beyond Shoulder length and has, for far too long now, been an utter nightmare for me to wash and dry and style and cope with as well as also always looking like a complete mess to me too ;o<

A Neighbour of ours (that I don't really know well) has just rung us up to ask us whether we know of a good local Painter & Decorator (which we do) and my Mum just happened to mention my Lock-down Hair nightmare and my Hairdresser being far too busy and not able to fit me in until mid-June ... and our Neighbour then immediately offered to come round sometime early on next week and cut it for me?!! ;oO

Mum had always thought, and had previously told me, that she thought she was a Teacher? - but it turns out that she is actually the Owner as well as the Senior Stylist of a very popular and well-rated and reviewed Hair Salon in the Village Centre!!!

WAYYY-HEYYY!!! ... I'm going to get at least 8 inches cut off my Hair!!! - and have it all cut back into it's usual shape and style again!!! ... YAYYY!!! ;o>

My Orthodontic Appointments are finally about to restart again next week and I was wondering as to how on Earth I was going to get my Brace Wires changed whilst wearing a Paper Bag over my Head(!) because I have been feeling so incredibly depressed and frustrated at not being able to manage and cope with my Hair anymore.

Now I will be able to leave the House with my Head held high and have one less HUGE deal of a thing to be getting all stressed out about while I am out ... HURRAYYY!!! ;o>

LOL!!! ... ohhh, Val! - I love it! ;o>

I've still been able to carry on with cutting M&D's Hair over the last year but I didn't dare try to attempt to cut my own because I can hardly hold a pair of Scissors without extreme pain these days and I can no longer lift up and move around my Shoulders enough to even try to do the back of my Hair anymore.

I was trimming my Fringe at first but it soon got to be too much for me because, as I have sadly been suspecting for some time, now that my Hair has grown out most of it all the way around and from front to back is actually all the exact same impossible to shape or style length! ;o<

This has come as no great surprise but still, it's really upset me all the same to see the proof of this, because I'm increasingly struggling on a daily basis to be able to maintain my usual high standards of self-care and independence, as well as to keep my pride and self-respect - and I have been asking my Hairdresser for several years now to please cut my Hair into layers like she used to, and trusting her to do so, and she very clearly hasn't been doing what I've been asking her to do.

She often leaves it far too long all around the sides and front despite me always asking her to cut it much shorter as well - and has often not been all that careful in making sure that both of the sides are cut to a similar length! The result of all of this has been that my Hair has become weighed down and unmanageable for me because it's lost a lot of it's body-lift and natural curling at the ends - and it has even required me to neaten and tidy it up with my own Scissors on returning Home from time to time to time, and has generally now become such an effort to get into it's usual style.

I've remained loyal to my Hairdresser over several decades now, stuck with her through good times and bad and followed her around from Salon to Salon (even though she has moved further and further away over the years and is now so far over the other side of Stockport that she is on the border to Manchester - while she has been continuing to keep on blaming all of my ongoing problems with my Hair over this last decade on it becoming much straighter - possibly due to my Medication or maybe age.

And truth be told, I've been repeatedly wondering about whether I should bite the bullet and try elsewhere for a good few years now - to see if I can find someone else who can get my Hair back to how it used to be. It used to have lots of layers that curled and my style would so easily just fall back into place all by itself after washing.

Now I suddenly have this chance to get to see if someone else can cut it any differently and, in doing so, make this 'mini miracle' happen for me again.

I'm done with loyalty because I've paid out a small fortune over the years yet my Hair has just kept on with becoming even more and more unmanageable - and it's also getting much harder for me to get to my Hairdresser's latest Salon as it is over 45 minutes away from Home. They have no Parking outside and the disabled access inside as well as outside the Salon is very poor and quite a challenge for me these days.

So? - if my Neighbour, Liz, can give me a much better Cut then I'll be switching to going to her at her Salon instead in future - which is barely 5 minutes drive away from Home.

The thing is too, that Liz only lives 4 Houses away from us, and she may be open to occasionally agreeing to do my Hair at Home if I get to be any more immobile or can't leave the House because I daren't risk leaving M&D on their own at Home either - so her coming round next week could turn out to be a such a massive blessing to me if it all turns out well. And my Hair certainly couldn't look any worse than it unfortunately does right now anyway!!! ;o>

Isabella | 1370 comments Sorry to hear you have problems, Lez. Surely there should be some advice or help offered by your local authority? Admittedly it's a good while ago but this happened when my Mum was having problems, after leaving hospital. There was a system for calling for help in an emergency and some help with personal care and housework. I seem to remember there was a charge but nothing like the expense of residential care. (Mum was too independent to let us pay and too sharp to let us sneak it past her, so it wasn't a lot of money).

Hope you get the assistance you need.

Craig White | 6727 comments les, i am so sorry to hear of your situation, and best thoughts for recovery.
your local council will operate a 'community alarm'/'crisis centre' system whereby you can summon help by pressing a button worn on a wristlet or a lanyard, and speak to an operative thru' a comms system placed centrally in your house (works from landline socket). if reqd (day or night) they will send out individuals to assist, and if it's anything like the ayrshire operation, nothing is too much trouble for them. they will install a key safe outside your front door for access, and the charge is around £12-£13 a month. s.w. or coucil can get you set up. it really is a great system (which works) with focus on the best outcomes.
