Isabella | 1370 comments No ill effects from over a month ago but oddly, my arm still feels a bit tender where the needle went in, though I barely felt it at the time.

Feel better soon.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Yeah that's the thing ladies; I seem to've got me side-effects back2front too. I thought the sore/swollen arm was the first thing to happen. Straight after - no ill effects... didn't even feel the needle touch my arm! Absolutely fine. Twelve hours later - so this's four Sunday morning - I wake up with all matter of aches n pains.

Monday morning... arm becomes sore. Still is, in fact.

Very odd.

Ok, will just add that I AM a bit of a mardarse with illness but still... very unpleasant experience. And that was just a lick! Can only imagine what catching the Full Monty would be like. Makes you wanna give these Covid denier idiots a bloody good shake and a slap.

Glad to hear you two didn't have a reaction akin to mine anyways.

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Mine's booked for the 23rd. My late 80s parents have had one and both jabs, the two were the Pfizer and the one was the AZ. They didn't have any major reaction.
The missus has now had her letter but the booking website mostly shows nearest at Hull or Lincoln and when Grimsby pharmacy appears there are limited dates and times for 1st jab and then zero dates for 2nd so you have to research by which time that centre has disappeared. Frustrating.
You'll have to rinse out a milk or other container and pee in that as I had to when I was laid up with a bad back and pray you don't need a number two.

TheFoe | 2638 comments Hi Blatro, haven't had the jab yet, just waiting for the appointment to come through the post. Most people I know who've had it, between 70's and 80's, have said it knocked them out for about 5 hours. They all had the Oxford vaccine.

And just to put your mind at ease:

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Still trying to book the missus's - there are now 3 venues showing in that there 'Ull (population 220,000) and none for Grimsby or Cleethorpes (combined population c. 125,000, 190,000 if you throw in Immingham and villages). Piss ups and breweries spring to mind (or maybe there's a not very well hidden message in play?).

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hiyah Everyone! - I'm still absolutely shattered not least because I'm back to barely managing to get any sleep at all again - and because I'm still trying my best to keep on going in the hope that I can catch up (at some point this week!) with getting through most of what seems to be an endless To Do & Online Shopping List! ;o>

Oooh Helen? - what a tough challenge you have taken upon yourself! I love ALL of the Donkeys - but as you can only pick one to adopt, I agree entirely with Val and Isabella on saying, always go with your Heart ;o>

It will come as no surprise to anyone that I was most especially drawn to the Donkeys that were described as being timid and brave - and those that have distressingly suffered from abuse and/or have struggled with serious Health issues.

Have you come to a decision yet? - or are you still thinking about it?

Awww, Blastro, I'm SO very sorry to hear just how ill you have been ;o<

Both Mum and Dad were unwell after having theirs - and my Dad is still waiting on getting his Second Jab which, to be honest, has us filled with dread as we spent the best part of 3 days poised and braced from hour to hour ready to call an Ambulance for him because he suddenly became so poorly after his first.

EDIT INCLUSION: I suddenly realised that I really ought to add, for those that might not know this, that my Dad had a far more extreme and very worrying reaction to the Vaccine because he has got a lot of very serious life-threatening Health issues going on - and so it wasn't that unexpected or all that surprising that he immediately went to A.F. almost immediately after having his first jab or that the episodes continued to be very severe at times for several weeks afterwards.

I must admit that I'm having to keep on blocking out on thinking about how it might possibly affect me when it's my turn. I'm also worried too that I might end up in missing out on getting one through not being able to arrange to have a Home Visit - as I understand that a few of the older Age Groups have reported that they have ended up in missing out on being vaccinated due to there being no provision for Home Visits put in place in their areas.

I hope that you are feeling much better today, Poppet ... x x x

Derek W | 1365 comments We collected Magni today and he seems to be settling in OK. He needs his second vaccination before we can take him out properly but he’s coming down to the market in the village on Tuesday morning since half the stall holders are very keen to meet him, especially the cheese lady. I'll have to carry him round so he won't be there long since he already weighs in at 9kg.

Couple of new pics on profile in a minute.

I had mine (Pfizer} a couple of weeks ago. The jab itself was fine and I was fortunate in that I only had a bit of a heavy feeling in my arm the following day.
A few of our family have now had their first jabs. One, a nurse, had pseudo Covid effects after her second one, and my daughter-in-law was unwell for a week. Most others just had heavy sensations in their arms.
However, our son had his jab yesterday and has been feeling awful as a result. He caught Covid a year ago and was very bad with it. Apparently the effects of the jab can be harsher in those who have had Covid. He has been suffering from a headache, shivery, no appetite, feeling sick, and his arm has been feeling as if the syringe is still sticking in him. Our daughter (a doc) has assured him the effects will only be transient, though, unlike when he actually had Covid. Equally, he has to keep his eye on his temp, because if it rises higher and lasts, he might need to have a test!

Hope your own symptoms soon fade.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Seem to be functioning normally again over this last couple of days. Thanks folks. Bad flu-like symptoms only lasted for around 20 hrs or so, just had 'orrid gut ache continuing into the middle of the week.

Mine was the Oxford btw. T'other half (who works in ICU at The Royal) has had both hers, they being of the Pfizer variety. She knew she'd had em but reaction not as bad as mine.

Am lucky in the fact that our 'Vac Centre' is the sports hall in the local leisure centre, which is only about 5-10 mins drive. Very professional job too - plenty of helpers directing everyone and so forth but not TOO many if ya know what I mean. Running like clockwork while I was there.
I'd had visions of socially-spaced folk queueing halfway down the road but nowt like that.

Gotta say I'm wondering if a rough time with the first jab automatically qualifies one for a repeat experience next time?

certainly not in my case, but then i'm still recovering so any after effects would possibly be absorbed by general feelingshiteyness? i got the pfizer, and had to say to the administering nurse 'that wisnae sair enough, go find an' auld rusty, twisted needle, and dae it right!!'

Helen The Melon | 3422 comments Update - I have just ordered a Henry from the Donkey Sanctuary.

"Henry is gentle and affectionate. He is a sweet-natured, kind and loving donkey who is sure to make you smile. He has problems with his sight and has done amazingly well to adapt to finding his way around. He’s always listening out for the voices of his loving grooms and seeking the company of his good friends including fellow adoption donkey Tiny Tim. At night, he will only settle down once he has had a goodnight cuddle with the sanctuary warden."

I will report back once he has arrived.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It's felt like Spring to me for a good few weeks here - so it came as a bit of a surprise to suddenly realise that the First Day of Spring was officially on Saturday the 20th of March. And this Sunday the Clocks go forward as we move into British Summer Time ...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Have I possibly managed to miss a Major National Announcement buried deep amongst all of the other bad and sad News Announcements that we invariably get these days? ... one maybe declaring that the end of the World really IS finally nigh?!!

I only ask because I skipped over to the Asda Website earlier on today, just to do a little bit of tweaking along with the odd touch of adding and paring of tomorrow's Delivery, and I went into 'Amend My Order' only to find that almost everything ... and I really do mean almost everything! ... was suddenly 'unavailable' or listed as being out of Stock?!!

So much, in fact, was missing that it only added up to just under the Minimum Spend amount needed to get it through the Checkout and it simply wasn't worth the paying out of £4 on top for it's Delivery either ... there was no Branflakes, Shredded Wheat, Hovis Sensations Bread, Butter, Paxo Stuffing, UHT Semi-Skimmed Milk, Branston Beans, High Juice Squash, Disinfectant, Toilet Rolls, Toilet Duck, Asda Toilet Cleaner, no Farrows Peas, Ground Ginger, Conference Pears, Frozen Sweetcorn, Porridge Oats, Oxtail Soup, Veg Pizza, Asda Ice cream, punnets of Plums, Peaches, Strawberries, Blueberries, Natural Yoghurt and no Bisto ... !!! ... ??? ... !!! ;oO

I've had to change our Delivery Slot to the next reasonably priced one on the 31st of March - and will be seeing if I can get an Order in with Sainsburys and/or Iceland for anything that we really want/need over the next few days.

Ahhh well, it's a good job that I always keep us well-stocked these days, isn't it? ;o>

I like to shop around for the best bargain prices but Morrisons here too has unfortunately had so little choice of Stock available on it's Website for over a year now - and they also haven't been the cheapest on their prices either so I haven't bothered with them.
