Derek W | 1365 comments The view out to our garden now consists of a very large hole and some huge mounds of earth and rock. Rig has already managed to get into the hole and looked very pleased with himself when he came back out up to his elbows in mud. Su looked a lot less pleased!

Tomorrows top job is to find some way of temporarily fencing off the new (soon to be a) pool area so Rig can't get back in there:-)

I'm afraid Rig won't be getting his own personal paddling pool. He'll just have to make do with a paddle in the river after his daily game of fetch the red squeaky ball down on the Catus cricket pitch.

Lez | 7490 comments I’ve had an unpleasant few days in hospital. I go to physio and exercises for my ongoing dizziness once a week. Went on Wed, feeling perfectly well, had lunch, got a sudden really violent stomach-ache, felt very sick and faint, hot and shaky. Carried me off to A. & E. Lucky I was in the right place! A scan showed colitis in the lower bowel and I’ll need to go in for an endoscopy. I won’t need surgery, it can be treated medically. Phew! Feeling far from great though ☹️

Sorry to hear that, Lez. Hope you start feeling a bit better v soon. An endoscopy, lucky you, ouch! I suffer greatly with dizziness every day at the moment (have done for a while now), sometimes accompanied by awful nausea. Nothing seems to be helping. It's really horrible, isn't it?

message 711: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Yes it is really horrible, mine’s been for nearly 2 years now. I can’t even walk to the bus-stop and if I manage to go out I have to hang on to somebody. Luckily I don’t get nausea, is yours Ménière’s disease? I’ve had every pill they can think of, to no avail, the only thing that’s helped a bit is Brandt-Daroff exercises. I was hoping for a small miracle with other exercises at the classes but it didn’t happen.

message 712: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22146 comments So sorry to hear Les that your balance problems aren't abating in any way. An endoscopy isn't particularly pleasant but at least they should be able to treat the colitis. On the other hand, living with an on-going debilitating problem that doesn't respond to medication and affects you carrying out the smallest tasks is no fun at all. I do hope you manage to clear the colitis quickly, even if you are stuck (for now) with the dizziness.

No, it's not Ménière's disease and the Brandt-Daroff exercises make me feel dreadful. 😞
I hope they get your colitis sorted out soon, it sounds v unpleasant.

You sound much worse than me Helen, and I know you’re much younger. Everyone at my classes has some sort of dizziness (20 of us, only one man, wonder why?) and most are even older than me. I’d no idea it was so rife.

men are usually in some sort of dizziness, les, I know it's one of my hobbies! :)

message 716: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2638 comments Really hope that the endoscopy isn't too painful for you Lez and the colitis is treated soon. Feel for both you and Helen, as recently I've been experiencing painful headaches, the sort that make trying to do simple tasks hard to do. Saw the doctor on Monday as I've been suffering with pins and needles and general numbness in my arms and legs. Got a blood test to come on Tuesday, to see what's occuring. Headaches have gone thankfully but the rest is still there. Happy days. :-(

message 724: by P (new)

P Cobb | 580 comments Lez, so long as you aren't an asthmatic, don't fret over the endoscopy. Mine was a good few years back now, but you are given a sedative to dullen the senses without knocking you out. I had to lie on my side and barely remember much of it, certainly didn't gag as it was fed down my throat. No driving allowed, and it's necessary to hang around in recovery afterwards until the effects of the sedative have worn off fully. Worth it though so they know exactly what is going on without surgery.

If you are an asthmatic, discuss options with the docs.

Boy has it been cold enough to freeze the brass balls off a monkey, here, since the weekend. Beware the Ides as they say... or should that be beware the Beast

Thanks, P. The problem is colitis of the lower bowel so the endoscopy is actually the other end! I suppose to be more specific it’s a colonoscopy. I have had one many years ago - uncomfortable and unpleasant certainly but not painful.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Okay, so McGee was muttering on about getting another Nut Butter like he does at some point in so many episodes of NCIS and I thought ... right! -that's it! - we have to buy and try some!

I already had a good idea through Google what they were and they might taste like - so I looked on Amazon, and then Ebay, for the very best price on getting just the one pack and found out that Ebay were 50p cheaper - and so Ebay it was.

And the pack arrived yesterday and we shared the 4 Biscuits out - one for M, one for D, and two for me ... my favourite kind of share! - LOL! ... and? ... we now absolutely get McGee's total obsession with them and we LOVE Nutter Butters as much as he does! ;o>

They are simply far too expensive to buy again like this - £2.49 inc p&p for a pack containing just four very thin yet utterly delicious Peanut Butter Biscuits - but, Ohhh boy! - they definitely were well worth the novelty value of trying them out ... YUMMY!!! ...

Val H. | 22146 comments Right, you've got me intrigued Suzy. There's a USAFoods store not far from home (open 7 days a week!) where they sell the above for AU$3.00 (£1.63) so I may have to try them.

They also have, for AU$9.99 (£5.44):

message 731: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Mar 24, 2018 06:44AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments They are a medium sized Biscuit, Val, crispy-crunchy yet they almost melt in the mouth a bit like a Melting Moment or a Viennese Biscuit. They are very thin with just enough of a Peanut Butter Cream Filling in them and ... best of all to me ... they are also not all that sweet either.

They also are remarkably filling and delightfully satisfying considering their size and I was pleased to find that just the two with a cup of Coffee was a good enough amount to still be a treat for me ... and this comes from the Girl who can quite easily eat her own way through most of a packet of Biscuits and still be left feeling like she has a very seriously bad case of the munchies ;o>

McGee clearly is a man of very good taste when it comes to his favourite Office Break snack ;o>

I’m not an obsessive calorie counter but years of trying to keep my weight reasonable mean I try to keep to around 1700 as I don’t get any exercise apart from occasional hoovering! It helps that though not vegetarian, I never eat meat at home. Bread and roasties however could well be my downfall!

Granny | 93 comments Don't talk about diets. My ladies at work are doing the detox bunk. They have forgotten that one's liver PERFORMS the detox maneuver and does not need the "detox" cleansing with lemon water. People are making money from naive individuals looking for the next cure. We work in healthcare as medical imagers and yet they are just as vulnerable. I just chortle and decline their offers of odd concoctions. I'm quite happy with my cookies and candy, thank you. My job isn't sedentary so I won't join a gym, either.
I hope everyone's spring weather is improving. Most of the snow is gone, the rivers are opening, and ice cover on the lakes is treacherous.

message 739: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It all sadly sounds very similar to the way that things are over here in the UK, Val ;o<

Many people seem to self-diagnose, buy in bulk at the Shop or Supermarket Checkout, and then throw back Painkillers just like they also would a tube of Smarties these days!

Lez | 7490 comments I had a bad fall in 1992, broke 2 bones in one foot and crushed a vertebra (T12). It was incredibly painful, reducing me to tears, but I was only prescribed paracetamol which made it bearable. I can see why people would go for stronger stuff if it was offered. Luckily I react badly to opioids anyway.
I’m usually an optimistic and positive person but I was pretty near depression at that time.
I had to wear a corset for a minimum 6 months, taking it off in bed and putting it on again before I stood up. It helped a lot and I actually wore it for nearly a year. I still get pain occasionally after all this time.
Good job I’d retired the previous year as I couldn’t have worked.

Yes they do. My weight has been stable for 8 years now. I must be destined to stay 160lbs for life. I'm pudgy, but I can push a 350 pounder on a cart by meself. My knees creak but I can roll along steadily. My 50th is Monday and I work so will eat biscuits and crisps and grin. 😁

Lez | 7490 comments Further to my colitis problem. No more talk of a colonoscopy. I’ve been put on a 4 week course of steroids :-(
It’s a decreasing dose starting with FOURTEEN a day (taken in one go) for 5 days! The pain’s gone but my dizziness is worse than ever and I’m hanging on to the furniture. Keep falling asleep too. I presume I’ll feel better as the dose goes down.
Sorry to moan, feeling a bit sorry for myself.
