suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Ohhh, and it snowed again here overnight - another thick coating - and so I'll be off out with the Snow Shovel in a minute to try and clear the Driveway.

I treated myself to a new one from off Amazon last week - all new and shiny! - because I was a little too over-enthusiastic back at the beginning of the year with the last one that we had and somehow managed to snap the Handle clean off while in mid-shovel! ;o>

Val H. | 22152 comments Here's wishing everyone a better year ahead. It's 12.30 am here and all the fireworks seem to have died down. We live two doors away from a big park which seems to attract those who feel the need to celebrate with loud bangs. Thankfully, my daughter's two dogs (we're looking after them for a few days) never stirred. Bed is calling so I'm off. Take care everyone!

Yep, my mum rang to tell me what I had been expecting and dad's 6th Jan 2nd shot is, well, shot.

Don't think the vaccines, even if fully dosed, give you immunity as is the same with the flu jab (which dad hasn't had this year due to all the faffage) - they just tune up and prepare your immune system to fight the bugger off and therefore reduce the severity of a bout and reduce the need for hospitalisation? Now we just have to hope that 60% protection is 'good enough' for old folk with multiple co-morbidities instead of the promised 90%. Top chancin' Bozza!

message 7204: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments We've been told the single dose might only just give between a 20% to 40% Immunity Factor against Covid turning really nasty and becoming life-threatening so my Mum just went to pieces and put herself to Bed in tears when I had to break the News to her because she was wound up by it that she just didn't know what else to do with herself.

I can take on and deal with a Hell of a lot of things when it's only just happening to me - but it absolutely rips me apart to see my M&D suddenly looking so elderly and frail, and vulnerable, and feeling so bewildered and also scared now by what is happening on the other side of the Front Door.

Ahhh well, Mum is now up out of Bed again and absolutely determined, like me, to be positive and cheerful. My Dad is typically refusing to be any part of anything joyful, including sitting down to any Meals, so just Mum and me sat down to have a really nice Lunch together - and, instead of cooking the large Turkey (Yes! - it arrived!!! - and it was delivered by such a nice, chatty, and heart-liftingly cheery Lad as well!), I have got a lovely medium-sized Aberdeen Angus Beef Joint in the Oven and it'll probably just be a really special Tea for the two of us tonight.

We will be ringing out the old and ringing in the new together as well and are really looking forward to seeing all of the Fireworks on the TV later ;o>

message 7206: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments So I rang our Neighbour to ask her, as a Senior Staff Nurse, if she knew anything more about just how effective the first dose might be? - and within an hour I was very surprised and delighted to unexpectedly receive a Call from one of the Senior Consultants on her Ward Unit! ;oO

He spoke to my Mum and has reassured her that the second dose reinforces and ups the Immunity created by the first - and although the very highest level of Immunity kicks in around a week to 10 days after the second dose it only really ups the Immunity by somewhere between 5 to 25% - and so Mum probably has around 60 to 70% Immunity now and in some folk it can even already be as high 80 to 90% ... ! ;o>

What a really lovely Neighbour and such an incredibly caring Consultant?! - both going out of their way (and on New Years Eve too!) to help to give my Mum (and me) such huge peace of Mind?!! ... bless them both ... x x x

I had Googled it - but there are so many 'experts' out there who all seem to be far more dedicated to their own opinions and causes and it's quite hard to find out actual facts when personal attitudes and agendas and so many Media attention-seeking soundbites come into play as well.

It looks like your Mum and mine are going to be okay on the one dose, Mr B ... x ;o>

I thought it was in the 60%s.

My mum won't be getting hers any time soon - when my dad went in for an outpatient appt he was told to go to a different hospital for his jab. Sis who took him tried to get them to see how easy (not entirely as she's not terribly mobile and needs a wheelchair and a whole load of palaver to get out the house) it would be for her to swing back by the 'rents' place and pick up mum but rules is rules so computer said nope. She is due to see a consultannt soon about why her mobility hasn't improved which will require an ambulance. What's the betting it takes another ambulance trip from that hospital to an entirely different hospital?!!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I've got an absolutely gorgeous looking Star shaped Winter Berry Cheesecake defrosting in the Kitchen and Mum and me will very likely be having a very large Port & Lemon with a big slice of it in about an hour's time ;o>

I've been SO incredibly impressed by everything that I've took a gamble on buying from Iceland this year - all of the large luxury Cook From Frozen Joints, the Sausages, the Cheese, Yorkshire Puds, Desserts, the Pork Pie, even the huge bags of Chocolate Coins, and their Face Masks!

I carefully read through and decided to trust in all of the Customer Reviews - and they weren't wrong! - because we have absolutely blown away by just how excellent and delicious everything has been! ;o>

Iceland has been the only regular and reliable Store for us during the whole of this last year - so it isn't like we had much choice but to keep on using them anyway - but I never ever expected such amazing quality as all this and also such great value for money either.

I won't be trying to shop anywhere else for some of our favourite savoury and sweet Meals and treats in future because I've never had so many things quite this good before from any other Shop or Supermarket ;o>

Funny! - LOL!!!! ;o> ... Haven't they got any Humax Boxes in Ireland either?!! It isn't as they are anything new - ours is over 10 years old now and barely even works anymore.

I spent ages searching around for a replacement Box for M&D back in October - because the new Humax Boxes are either simply amazing or absolutely rubbish according to all of the Expert Recommendations and Customer Reviews - and decided on buying a Manhattan Box instead as they look and sound like they are the best around.

M&D haven't got it out of the Box yet though because they are still working their way through watching lots of Series that they were already in the middle of recording and then catching up with on the old Humax ;o>

No, in Ireland we have to wait till the Betamax Video tapes arrive from the UK, thing is it's a bit hit and miss what might be recorded on them.

Kids can be enjoying an episode of Pingu and suddenly on comes Diary Of A Call Girl.
And the opposite can also be true, which can be a bit of a damper.

You might have a childs Youtube account.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I don't have a YouTube Account as I've never been in need of one to access anything on YouTube over the last decade.

However, I am now finding more and more than just the odd few YouTube recordings to be unavailable to me these days and I've been wondering if everyone else is also having this happening to them too or whether setting up an Account will mean I'll be able to see them?

message 7240: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Yeah, Google keep on hassling me with their Privacy Policy Pop-ups every time that I use them these days as my Search Engine - but I'll never give in to setting up an Account with them as they have repeatedly proved themselves to be far too invasive of their Account Users personal details and online searches and have shared out far too much Data for Marketing and Commercial purposes for my liking.
