Don't Kill Snails with Salt ... Creme Eggs & Toasted Teacakes ... Biscuits & Bench Stories, Life, the Universe, & Everything!

Melbourne is a city of nearly 5 million people. For the last 4 months we have endured one of the hardest lockdowns anywhere in the world. We are only just coming out of it - and very slowly. Everyone who can work from home has been doing just that since March. It has not been easy but the result has been worth it. 16 consecutive double donut days; i.e. no new cases and no deaths. No mystery cases and only 3 people in hospital receiving treatment. It has only been achieved by the willingness of people to comply and to do the right thing by the community.

"If I get it, I get it". My sister comes our with that one all the time. She's 53. Pity she doesn't act like it though. 🙄

"She's 53" - Your mum had you in quick succession then?

Just wonderin' like.....if the cloak is invisible..how does the checkout operator scan it in at the tills?!
Actually..come to think of it...how would a customer know they've managed to pick one up from the shelf anyway?!

....after you've completed a substantial shopping, you pick one of these up, open it, surround yourself and your shopping with it, then quite simply walk out the shop without paying. when the security alarm goes off, the lazy disinterested individual in charge of security will think "oh globbits, it's been another of those mystery shoppers!", and go back to sleep. give it a couple of beats before disrobing at your car - don't want to frighten anyone!

Just think of all of those £s you could be saving in Poundland, tech! ;oO

The Kingfisher only flew into the Kitchen and then tried to get out again by flapping against the Window - it didn't actually hit anything, like a Window at high speed, or suffer any injuries. I think it probably panicked and went into shock ... and then just decided to continue to lie still and hope for the best! ;o>
Luckily it was rescued by the incredibly calm and caring Charlotte Lawrie ...

....because if it had landed here between a rock (bob z.) and a hard place (sheet of puff pastry)...........?

He certainly has high hopes and great expectations, doesn't he?!! ;o>

And then say ... "what's ya problem, Dad?! - get plucking and gutting!"

Miceballs with Rat-atouille! ;oO"
Have you seen the size of miceballs? You'd have to castrate thousands for a decent meal.
A rat or two, eee, now you're talking.

Care Homes have been struggling ever since to cope with their Phones constantly ringing and also with Resident's families just turning up thinking that they will finally be able to come in and see their loved one ;o<
And I understand that the Rapid Tests aren't considered to be all that reliable either?!

'Reg' the fur seal is back on the Northern Beaches!
ORRCA has been monitoring the Australian fur seal for two months, and in the last few weeks he’s been visiting Sydney and the Central Coast.
The seal spent the night at Manly Beach and is still there resting today. He's been kept safe and calm by ORRCA members, Northern Beaches Council and local police.
⚠ PLEASE NOTE: The seal is a wild animal and people must stay at least 40 metres away. Do not feed or disturb 'Reg'.
"He’s a male bull seal and if he gets upset he could really do some damage," said Jools Farrell from ORRCA.
"They have sharp teeth and they do bite."
Last week, an off-leash dog nipped at 'Reg' at Long Reef on the Northern Beaches but thankfully the seal was unharmed.
Conservationists are hoping the seal continues his migration south to the Great Australia Bight or Macquarie Island.
"We hope he doesn't decide to haul out on Bondi Beach, he’s been picking some popular beaches," Ms Farrell said.
"People need to realise he’s a wild animal, respect him and stay 40 metres away."

I can't get any Sound on that Link so I don't know how noisy it is there but there does seem to be lots of people congregating and calling out and little kids chanting ... and there is Reg ... blissfully dozing away on the Sand and having some lovely Dreams too if that 'smile' on his face is anything to go by! ;o>

Many years ago, when video cameras were fairly new, we had the wonderful chance to visit Kangaroo Island in Oz. We were on a guided tour with a group, two of whom had video cameras. One guy in particular was hell bent on getting his trip on film. He had to be restrained from going up to the sea lions on the beach who were just entering the mating season and pretty dangerous (the males are big and also aggressive when there are females about) and the poor guide nearly had heart failure when a snake decided to curl up in the sun in the middle of the trail. Camera man (who was French and kept trying the 'no English' card) was practically nose to nose with the snake which was poisonous, though I can't remember the kind.
A few of us spoke enough French to call his bluff and the ranger called in to get the snake moved to a part of the island not much frequented.
It sums up for me just how arrogant some people can be in their dealings with wildlife. It's their planet, too.

I'm with you there Isabella. Some people just don't realise how lucky they are to be able to experience seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. Why they feel the need to disturb the animals is beyond me.
I was watching a TV show tonight which featured Kangaroo Island and its ongoing recovery from last year's bushfires.

Yes Val, it has to be brown and tan and male.

Val, yes they are although there are usually more black and tans than brown and tans. Since they only announced this morning that the pregnancy was confirmed then yes we probably are first in line. We've been talking to the owners since August, not long after we lost Ríg, so if the right puppy turns up we should be OK.
We're also on the list for another mating at a different kennels but that hasn't happened yet, so that's our fallback.

we were 2nd on a litter list for a brown beardie girl, and lux was the only girl in the litter (and brown). the top of the list came to collect her, from the midlands i remember, instantly declared her markings to be wrong, and promptly left puppyless, leaving us with the reject. yay! she'll be 9 on tuesday.

We always ask if there are any small to medium little hairy woofer pups, go to take a look, and then see which ones we just feel we have an instant Eye to Eye and Heart to Heart connection with ;o>

Thanks Lez, well he will be a Doberman so he won't look much different. We just hope his temperament will be as good as Rig's was.

Once you've owned a Doberman you can never go back to another breed:-)

My 80+ year old parents' life has just collapsed anyway with dad's dementia and mum's general mobility issues which means they can't go anywhere so the only people they see are the carers who come in for an hour each evening to microwave some ready meal with a few veg and wash the tiny number of pots and the cleaners once a week. They just aren't in a position to break any rules but they're on borrowed time (limited sympathy since both were heavy smokers and drinkers) and to think that this is how it might end is desperate.
Most of us have the reasonable expectation that there will come a time after this shitshow when some semblance of (new) normality will be possible, the very elderly and frail may not hold such hopes and expectations.
