Fatalism, while understandable, is still no excuse in my book Brass. You are still going to cause problems for health professionals, your carers and your family. Just because you are old does not absolve you from the distress caused by not being able to care for you or visit you or maybe even attend your funeral should you succumb to Covid.Melbourne is a city of nearly 5 million people. For the last 4 months we have endured one of the hardest lockdowns anywhere in the world. We are only just coming out of it - and very slowly. Everyone who can work from home has been doing just that since March. It has not been easy but the result has been worth it. 16 consecutive double donut days; i.e. no new cases and no deaths. No mystery cases and only 3 people in hospital receiving treatment. It has only been achieved by the willingness of people to comply and to do the right thing by the community.
fatalism? no really! he doesn't see why he should comply - 'if i get it i get it' is his maxim, says he doesn't care who he might take with him. he goes to the houses of others as he pleases, has people in his house as he pleases - due to this and other issues (choosing to listen to others (who are wrong) over our advice, etc etc), we can't have him in our bubble, and just drop his shopping in once a week (during which he moans that we don't stay longer), there's no winning, so i stopped stressing over it - f*** it, he can do what the f*** he likes, i'm keeping mine and me safe! sad? mibbe. do i care? not any longer!
Anyone who understands the pain of losing someone we love would follow the rules, whatever the "inconvenience", unless they really didn't care at all about others.
you would think that, especially having lost my mum this year (not covid), but hey ho, there you go! she would have been furious!

My sister comes our with that one all the time. She's 53. Pity she doesn't act like it though. 🙄
But she's not the golden one so expectations must be lowered whereas you..........."She's 53" - Your mum had you in quick succession then?
Exactly, ha ha. She's too busy necking her cider and slagging the rest of us off. Are you trying to be funny, Mr B? 😬 I'm 46 and our Tracy's 51. D's late Mum though...she had 9 of them. 6 boys and 3 girls.
"She's too busy necking her cider and slagging the rest of us off" - she sounds like a fun gal with her heart in the right place!
Only just a few admissions and some rather vague promises so far and sadly all coming a little too late in the day now for quite a few ... but this could possibly prove to be some good news at last for disabled and vulnerable people in the UK? ;o> ...https://www.disabilitynewsservice.com...

Just wonderin' like.....if the cloak is invisible..how does the checkout operator scan it in at the tills?!
Actually..come to think of it...how would a customer know they've managed to pick one up from the shelf anyway?!

Ohhh Wow!!! ... simply in awe and lost for words! ... just WoW!!! ;o> ...https://www.facebook.com/DailyMailVid...
"if the cloak is invisible..."....after you've completed a substantial shopping, you pick one of these up, open it, surround yourself and your shopping with it, then quite simply walk out the shop without paying. when the security alarm goes off, the lazy disinterested individual in charge of security will think "oh globbits, it's been another of those mystery shoppers!", and go back to sleep. give it a couple of beats before disrobing at your car - don't want to frighten anyone!

Just think of all of those £s you could be saving in Poundland, tech! ;oO
Apparently, according to Bird Experts, who have rescued and also put Rings onto Kingfishers when monitoring their populations in some areas they can often go into a form of shock when handled, a state that can temporarily take them over and mimic playing dead, until they come to and regain their bearings again. The Kingfisher only flew into the Kitchen and then tried to get out again by flapping against the Window - it didn't actually hit anything, like a Window at high speed, or suffer any injuries. I think it probably panicked and went into shock ... and then just decided to continue to lie still and hope for the best! ;o>
Luckily it was rescued by the incredibly calm and caring Charlotte Lawrie ...

Have you seen the size of miceballs? You'd have to castrate thousands for a decent meal.
A rat or two, eee, now you're talking.

Typical Govt stupidity ... they announce that Care Home Visits will now be permitted but haven't even issued the Rapid Covid-19 Test Kits yet! ;oOCare Homes have been struggling ever since to cope with their Phones constantly ringing and also with Resident's families just turning up thinking that they will finally be able to come in and see their loved one ;o<
And I understand that the Rapid Tests aren't considered to be all that reliable either?!
More on wildlife. Meet Reg. 'Reg' the fur seal is back on the Northern Beaches!
ORRCA has been monitoring the Australian fur seal for two months, and in the last few weeks he’s been visiting Sydney and the Central Coast.
The seal spent the night at Manly Beach and is still there resting today. He's been kept safe and calm by ORRCA members, Northern Beaches Council and local police.
⚠ PLEASE NOTE: The seal is a wild animal and people must stay at least 40 metres away. Do not feed or disturb 'Reg'.
"He’s a male bull seal and if he gets upset he could really do some damage," said Jools Farrell from ORRCA.
"They have sharp teeth and they do bite."
Last week, an off-leash dog nipped at 'Reg' at Long Reef on the Northern Beaches but thankfully the seal was unharmed.
Conservationists are hoping the seal continues his migration south to the Great Australia Bight or Macquarie Island.
"We hope he doesn't decide to haul out on Bondi Beach, he’s been picking some popular beaches," Ms Farrell said.
"People need to realise he’s a wild animal, respect him and stay 40 metres away."

Awww ;o>I can't get any Sound on that Link so I don't know how noisy it is there but there does seem to be lots of people congregating and calling out and little kids chanting ... and there is Reg ... blissfully dozing away on the Sand and having some lovely Dreams too if that 'smile' on his face is anything to go by! ;o>

Many years ago, when video cameras were fairly new, we had the wonderful chance to visit Kangaroo Island in Oz. We were on a guided tour with a group, two of whom had video cameras. One guy in particular was hell bent on getting his trip on film. He had to be restrained from going up to the sea lions on the beach who were just entering the mating season and pretty dangerous (the males are big and also aggressive when there are females about) and the poor guide nearly had heart failure when a snake decided to curl up in the sun in the middle of the trail. Camera man (who was French and kept trying the 'no English' card) was practically nose to nose with the snake which was poisonous, though I can't remember the kind.
A few of us spoke enough French to call his bluff and the ranger called in to get the snake moved to a part of the island not much frequented.
It sums up for me just how arrogant some people can be in their dealings with wildlife. It's their planet, too.
We've just reserved a Doberman puppy which should be ready sometime in March. All we need now is for its Mum to produce one the right colour and sex!

Some people just don't realise how lucky they are to be able to experience seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. Why they feel the need to disturb the animals is beyond me.
I was watching a TV show tonight which featured Kangaroo Island and its ongoing recovery from last year's bushfires.

Yes Val, it has to be brown and tan and male.
Are the parents likely to produce brown and tan pups? And are you first cab off the rank for a male or are you in a queue?
Val wrote: "Are the parents likely to produce brown and tan pups? And are you first cab off the rank for a male or are you in a queue?"Val, yes they are although there are usually more black and tans than brown and tans. Since they only announced this morning that the pregnancy was confirmed then yes we probably are first in line. We've been talking to the owners since August, not long after we lost Ríg, so if the right puppy turns up we should be OK.
We're also on the list for another mating at a different kennels but that hasn't happened yet, so that's our fallback.
yeah, doberman brown boy bingo! hope you get your boy.we were 2nd on a litter list for a brown beardie girl, and lux was the only girl in the litter (and brown). the top of the list came to collect her, from the midlands i remember, instantly declared her markings to be wrong, and promptly left puppyless, leaving us with the reject. yay! she'll be 9 on tuesday.
We personally prefer to seek out Heinz 57 varieties over Pedigrees. We always ask if there are any small to medium little hairy woofer pups, go to take a look, and then see which ones we just feel we have an instant Eye to Eye and Heart to Heart connection with ;o>
i also remember way back, when we went to choose kes (border collie) from two brown/red girls in the litter. after taking an age to make our minds up i suddenly pointed and said 'that one!'. mrs tech asked why i was so sure which one to pick, to which i replied 'well, she'd just had a shite, so it'll be longer before she needs another one!'
Lez wrote: "Hope it works out for you Derek. It'll be sort of bitter-sweet if it looks like lovely Rig,"Thanks Lez, well he will be a Doberman so he won't look much different. We just hope his temperament will be as good as Rig's was.

Once you've owned a Doberman you can never go back to another breed:-)
Good, luck with the pup Derek ,I hope there are several Brown and tan Dogs,I'm off to google that colour ,I've only seen Black and Tan.We got Treacle by first someone dumping her at Christmas and then someone else saying they would have her and then not coming in to collect her .Dobermans are quite a rare breed around here ,I've never actually seen anyone with one.you should try and catch the Columbo episode with the Dobermans Laurel and Hardy.

My 80+ year old parents' life has just collapsed anyway with dad's dementia and mum's general mobility issues which means they can't go anywhere so the only people they see are the carers who come in for an hour each evening to microwave some ready meal with a few veg and wash the tiny number of pots and the cleaners once a week. They just aren't in a position to break any rules but they're on borrowed time (limited sympathy since both were heavy smokers and drinkers) and to think that this is how it might end is desperate.
Most of us have the reasonable expectation that there will come a time after this shitshow when some semblance of (new) normality will be possible, the very elderly and frail may not hold such hopes and expectations.
