suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Damn! - I just had to go and mention Braces, didn't I?!! ;oO

I've just cleaned my Teeth and one of the Bands hooked round two of the Brackets on two of my front Teeth just came off!

They are only tiny but it stayed hanging there and so I had a little pull on it and it just gave and came off. On closer examination it had hardened and then thinned out in places and broke apart as it had perished ... just like very old Elastic Bands tend to do.

I had a very gentle poke at the remaining one on the other side and it also broke away and unhooked at one side far too easily and so I had to very carefully pull it around and off the Bracket that it was still hanging from as well.

Talk about flippin' timing?!! ... I guess I really can't put off the Orthodontist for much longer now! ... as my Teeth will start to separate and to space again and move back to where they were before without these tiny Lasso Bands.

Hmmm? - it isn't all that big deal ... and it isn't like it is urgent either ... but nevertheless I'll have to rethink now on putting it off getting it sorted out for at least another month - while I was waiting to see what's happening with the Pandemic after Lockdown has mostly eased off for everyone who isn't still shielding, like we are still going to be doing.

I shall have to ring first thing on Monday and see what the Orthodontist has to say about it.

Wish I'd kept my flippin' Mouth shut now!!! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Anita Bailey | 3842 comments Sorry missed your reply last night ,I went straight off to sleep.I know exactly what you mean by those tiny rubber bands.Theyve come off my charges in the past but you have to let them put them back on as it's such an awkward job.
HOW COULD they take your teeth out and not put your brace on?Didn't your parents not wonder why you hadn't gone back for the brace?I was something out my books yesterday which is why I was shattered yesterday.I found twenty or so old vinyl albums that were my dad's ,from around the 70s ,I'll see what the gang on here think best to do with them .I don't want to just take them to a boot fair.Any advice guys ,
I hope you manage to sort the orthodontist Suzy.I should have emailed you.😀

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Anyone seen their GP over the lockdown? Just wondering seeing as they're getting a raise, because Boris The Basket and his cronies have decided their commitment over this last few months should be rewarded. Hmmm.
The MOST protected of health workers get a bonus while the ones on the front-line (who are already paid below inflation) are getting sweet FA. Oh, forgive me, a round of applause and a bit of tin-banging will suffice won't it.

If they end up walking out - and I for one wouldn't blame em - we're all ******!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments @Anita ... well, M&D were both extremely busy working 12 hours a day and 7 days a week with full-time Careers when I was a child and so, to absolutely be honest with you, Anita, I don't think that they took in too much of what was going on most of the time with my Brother and me when we were growing up?

That sounds really awful, I know, but it was just how it was back then. I was always there for my baby Brother but I don't really remember anyone having all that much time in being there for me when I was young. I think it was probably misunderstood by M&D as to why I was having the Teeth out, or forgotten about? Or maybe the Dentist never explained it all properly to them at the time?

It came as a Hell of a shock to me to realise that was the reason why I had had to have the removals done - but you don't think to question adults about these things when you are a child, do you? Or at least my generation didn't tend to back then. Kids are encouraged to have far more attitude and more say in things these days than we ever did - it was still very much a time of children should be seen but not heard.

If a Dentist or an adult said that you had to have Teeth out, then you had to accept it, and you went along with it. I was told it was because my Teeth needed room to space before my Wisdom Teeth came through (which then didn't happen until I was well into my late 20s) - and no-one ever mentioned to me that it was so a Brace could be fitted afterwards.

My Teeth have moved slightly over the years but I still have the 4 rather huge gaps there - and the Orthodontist doesn't think the bottom ones will even out after all of this time but says that my Bite could greatly be improved all the same and my Teeth should straighten out slightly. The gaps between my top Teeth were noticeably starting to get a little wider and also beginning to look slightly wonky too over this last decade and so I thought ... what the Hell! - treat yourself and get the job finished before you get TOO old and it becomes a waste of time - LOL!!! ;o>

Now that I'm back to being on my own again I suddenly discovered that I had enough of my own money to myself to get by and to start saving again - so I could actually afford to do this for myself.

It's my treat, my gift to myself, to improve on my Smile ;o>

When most countries are looking at rising rates of infection, today's Worldometer says that of 215 countries, only Cambodia, Vietnam, Jamaica, New Zealand, Haiti, Sth Korea, Australia, Honduras, Belgium, Bolivia, China and Mexico have reported new cases. Obviously the U.S., Brazil, India, Russia, etc have got it under control???

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Awww, Val, and I've just been reading around the Internet on the awful situation that you are currently now in there in Melbourne ... and I'm SO sorry to hear that Lockdown 2.0 has sadly not proved to be successful for you all there so far ... x x x ;o<

Since last night, it's suddenly starting to be heavily hinted at and suggested here that everyone in England who is exclusively aged between 50 and 70 could be about to be put back under a full Lockdown - so the rest of the country and the Economy can continue with trying to get itself back on it's Feet again.

Quite why folk like M&D&me though should readily and willingly now have to agree to anything like this, while we are getting to see all the News Reports of so many folk elsewhere in the UK all racing off to the Seaside, dangerously over-crowding into Tourist Areas and Holiday Resorts, and jam-packing themselves in together on all of the Beaches though, is something that is obviously proving extremely hard to take in and to tolerate?

It seems we might have to endure yet more months of a full Lockdown and Shielding mainly just so that all of our younger generations can get to head off for nights out somewhere special or get Sun Tans on Beaches without having to face up to any worries about us getting sick and maybe dying because of what they are doing? So when exactly will this ever get to end for us all then, instead of only just for them, if they chose to keep on with carrying on like this?

Yes, I know it's all about saving Jobs and the Economy but at what terrible cost to everyone and everything else? Why not just accept the tragic reality of what is happening right now and close down all of the Tourist Areas for the rest of this Summer? - if only just to give the poor local residents a chance to get out and about and back into getting to live out their own day-to-day lives again after being in Lockdown?;o<

Although I do totally get the thought process and do understand the idea behind it - it still nevertheless appals and terrifies me all the same. This World-wide Covid situation could still continue to carry on regardless - and I obviously don't want for folk like M&D&me to be spending what might possibly be the rest of our lives behind locked Doors and being threatened by legal enforcement to keep us there ;o<

I'm not sure what on Earth the plan is going to be though for all of over-70's that haven't been mentioned so far? ... are they going to be rounded up, frogmarched off on their Zimmers and herded into living in specially created Isolation Areas for the rest of their lives?

That is definitely NOT a suggestion by the way, Boris, if you're also checking out any Posts on here whilst looking around for useful feedback or ideas! ;oO

This seems to be how our Govt does a lot of it's decision-making ... by the leaking and floating around of various ideas to see what reaction they might get first off ... usually just before they go ahead on enforcing them .... and so I got up early this morning and edited all of the TV Channels so that there are no dedicated News Channels with their Breaking and Streaming News Headlines available at the moment.

If it does happen, then I want to be the one to gently try to break the News to M&D as I don't think that my poor Mum can take much more right now. Instead I am urging them to stay out in the Garden and trying to find lots of pleasurable and satisfying little jobs for them to lose themselves in. We are just resting up after cleaning the Sundial, jet-washing the Green Bins and pulling out a large Bed of Japanese Knotweeds that keep on with coming in from the Garden next door to us.

I'm also going to be putting back up several Posts that I put up and then deleted the other day - in the shared hope that the few of us on these Forums (who continue to battle on every day with ongoing Clinical Depression) might also find something in them to be encouraging and supportive, comforting and reassuring, as I often do in some of my most deepest and darkest moments ... x

And I'm also going to hang the extra expense and book us a Meal Delivery to enjoy together later ... because - no matter what? ... I am absolutely determined that today WILL be a good day! ;o>

Brass Neck | 3979 comments If Bozza sends over 50s into some form of compulsory lockdown/shielding won't it apply to him? Also what about the 50+s who still work (myself excluded since I had a significant but extremely dull birthday in lockdown and decided to take my pension)? Will they be refurloughed?

I have to declare an interest in him not doing it before next Sunday since there is a blues gig with a chap called Robin Bibi at the Hope Tavern. He's got to be 60+, the landlord likewise and the audience over 50 to a ma... sorry, person. There'll almost certainly be more than 30 punters even though it's (hopefully) outside so could be a lawbreaker's convention!

Had a walk to Blind Col's earlier to take him a few cds and asked if he had a mask for the 30 min drive to the pub. "I'm exempt," quoth he triumphantly. "Not in my car you're not!" I warned him. He'd had his hair cut so his head is nearly shaven (which he could do himself with clippers) but they wouldn't touch his beard which is sprouting in all directions. I nearly ran 'ome to get t'garden shears ('cepting it's about a 9 mile round trip)!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I would think that it would have to be outside, Mr B, as I wouldn't have thought that Singing would be allowed inside of any enclosed spaces at the moment? I honestly dunno though as it's just too confusing now to even begin to work out what is and what isn't allowed or has been agreed upon, isn't it?

Under the new localised Lockdown Rules we now can't have anyone from any other Household but our own coming into our House or even into our Gardens either here in the North West - and yet in an Interview with Matt Hancock he said, and even repeated it on being asked to as well, that we can still let someone who is working for us, like a Cleaner (and so presumably also a Builder or a Decorator?) come into our Houses at anytime?!!

The same Matt Hancock who also decided that the very best way to officially inform everyone in the North West of this latest Govt directive was via just posting up a short Tweet on Twitter that the North West was about to going into a localised Lockdown and to do it only just a couple of hours before it was going to be coming into effect as well ;o<

He also said that this localised Lockdown has come about because of ... "households gathering and not abiding by the social-distancing rules" ... and that that was THE main reason why they were having to enforce the stricter Rules on us ... and now we here in the North West are getting to sit tight and watch on in utter disbelief as huge numbers of folk from throughout the rest of the UK race off to the Coast, over-crowd in Resorts, and jam-pack themselves onto the Beaches until there appears to be little more than just standing room only left on them in all of the pictures that we are seeing? ... !

Have you considered giving Blind Col a Mask to wear in your Car that you have already pre-covered in Fast Action Hair Remover, Mr B?!! - that'll surely sort out his Beard once he has taken it off at the other end of your Journey! Just make sure that he gets out of your Car first before taking it off as you don't want him leaving all of those messy Hairs all over your Passenger Seat!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Mitz wanted to go pee at 10 to 4 this morning, went downstairs ahead of me, and got in her Kitchen Box while she was waiting for me to get down the Stairs. I could see through the Kitchen Window that the Security Light over the back of the Garage was on - but it often does that when there is seemingly nothing at all there that could have triggered it to come on. However I opened the Back Door just a crack at first just in case it was one of the Foxes playing in the Garden or checking out the Wheelie Bins.

And there, right in front of me and almost within touching distance, was an enormous Hedgehog who, instead of rolling up into a ball as the Light over the Door came on, sat back and upright on it's back Legs with it's Head half-tucked down into it's Chest whilst seemingly pretending to be a Garden Ornament?!! - LOL!!! ;o>

It wasn't very good at standing still though because it was rocking ever-so-slightly on the spot for a minute - then it lifted it's Head up as if to say ... "have they gone yet?" ... and looked right at me by now sat down on the Doorstep just a foot away watching it. I said ... "Hello" ... but it apparently wasn't fancying a chat because it gently dropped down onto it's front Feet, slowly turned around, and ambled off in no particular hurry around the back of the Garage.

I then opened the Back Door to find little Moo sat there on the Doormat in the Kitchen with a rather quizzical ... "Errr? - so did we forget to take someone with us when we went out there then?! - ME!!!" ... look on her Face - and let her out taking care to stand in position on the Patio so that she couldn't catch the scent of the Hedgehog and then try to hurtle past me in search of it.

We used to see lots of Hedgehog here when I was a Kid - and I really do mean lots! - several a night and we also rescued quite a few that were found out and about during the day. We would keep them snuggled up in a Box and feed them up with Cat Food for a day or two before releasing them once they had perked up again and looked to be fit and well otherwise. Over the last three decades though, Hedgehogs have all but disappeared around here and we've sadly gone many a year without so much as a single sighting of one.

It's been SO wonderful to once again get to see such a huge, active, and very healthy-looking Hedgehog wandering through the Back Gardens as of this last year - and I hope that we will get to see them multiplying and continuing to thrive here for many years to come ;o>

theDuke | 6492 comments I haven't seen a hoggy since i moved to my current house in 2003. They must exist in my area..but maybe they don't like moorland. Over the years, we've had pheasants, horses, cows, sheep by blinkin' loads, foxes, badgers, mice, field rats, squirrels, the odd kestrel, bunnies, toads (loads of those), a wildcat.....and...er....plenty of other wildlife that i can't remember....but no hoggies as of yet.

message 6678: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It really is - I love just sitting still on the Patio in the early hours of the morning while it's still quite dark and peaceful - just taking time out to think things through, or to be at peace and take in the incredible beauty of the World that is around me.

I often get to see the Foxes playing and dancing around each other on next door's Lawn through the gaps in the Hedge, to hear the Owls in the Trees and the first notes of the Dawn Chorus begin, and watch all kinds of usual and unusual tiny things scurry past me up and down the Patio - not realising or not caring that I am there.

To be a witness to and to feel even such an incredibly small part of something so special helps to make up for what has become a rather sad little life else-wise - one that is now so frustratingly limited and has become far less lived than it should have been. To be there in those precious moments when the Garden is so alive with so much activity that only I am being blessed and honoured with getting to see and to marvel at ... it's always such a magical experience ;o>

The Hedgehog really cracked me up, Isabella - as it really did look like it was trying it's very best to impersonate a Garden Ornament! - LOL!!! I'm SO delighted to see just how large and how healthy it looks as it is obviously enjoying living well and long may it continue to do so ;o>

One of the most remarkable things, amongst others, that we only rarely ever get the pleasure of seeing around here is the Peacocks that you sometimes find resting up on Back Lawns - before heading off back again to a nearby Hall or one of the many Parklands or Country Estates.

There are a couple of dazzlingly pure white ones that are quite a sight to behold when they stand proud and spread out all of their Tail Feathers ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I know, we steer well clear of them and keep Mitz well away, but it's still such a fabulous sight to open the Blinds of a rare morning and see them there on our, or one of our Neighbours', Back Lawn. If no-one else has already then we usually give the nearest local Estate Manager a Call just so he knows where they have wandered off to.

If they are gone for more than a few days he will put out requests on Social Media for any info on their whereabouts and drive around the Villages on the lookout for them - just in case they have been injured in any way and can't manage to make their own way back home again.

They definitely seem to like him because they will often quite willingly agree to be caught and put into a large Cage in the back of his Rover without too much of an argument so that he can drive them back without them having to walk or fly! He has hand-reared quite a few over the years which is why they know him on sight ;o>

Yep! - I never dreamt, not in a million years, that I'd suddenly start with having a body and living the life of an inactive and housebound OAP at the age of 42. And that all of my friends would be online now and that I'd never get to go out anywhere with anyone ever again by the time that I reached 50 ;o<

It's SO hard some days but you just have to keep on with making the very best and the most of whatever you still do have going on in your life or else you're as good as done with having to live like this - and for me, it's all about now having all the time in the World to just sit quietly and get to admire and to marvel in the glory of our Back Garden and everything that lives and grows in it ;o>

I used to do an overnight delivery to a place just outside Braintree where the delivery point was underneath a tree in the yard. Said tree was full of Peacocks which really did not like being disturbed at three in the morning. There I am, trying to keep noise to a minimum while they were doing their level best to wake up everyone!
I wasn't warned about them so the first time I went there I got a bit of a fright.

We used to have a brown Doberman when I was a kid ( good going for someone who was and still is petrified of dogs!) and she was a devil for picking up hedgehogs. She was so damn quick too - even though she was on a lead she still managed to grab them at every available opportunity and getting her to put them down was a difficult task.

We've had 6 Dobermans and only Loki and Lektra picked up hedgehogs. I think Lektra learnt it from Loki since he was an only dog for the first couple of years until we got Lektra.

You're right about the difficulty in getting them to drop the poor things, usually needed significant food bribes.

The UK police did trial using Dobermans as police dogs many years ago. The end result was basically 'great at apprehending criminals but too difficult to get them to let go once they'd caught them'. That obviously carries over to hedgehogs as well in the case of my two.

It's not a Doberman thing, it's a general random dog thing! I posted a picture on my profile a little while ago of a hedgehog I rescued from a dog in the woods. I think the dog was a Retriever of some sort.

One hedgehog (or more) is seen quite often around me and my neighbours; I saw it the other week out the back & it seemed to be eating sunflower hearts that I had put out for the birds (it was raining hard so I just chucked them out the window onto the ground). One neighbour puts out special hedgehog food for it. My mum & dad have a resident in their hedgehog house in their back garden: there is a little trail in the undergrowth leading in & out of the house & hedgehog poo in various places around the garden.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments This will make you laugh, Helen! ;o>

I completely ran out of ideas for what to buy M&D for Christmas in 2018 and so I bought them a huge Hedgehog House off eBay that was designed and handmade by a Man who was being recommended by all of the Hedgehog Sites that I had looked at.

Okay, so, we didn't have any Hedgehogs at the time and hadn't seen hide or hair of one for a few years ... but I'd already bought them several Frogitats and Bug Hotels over the last decade which had been so delightedly and enthusiastically set up and so I was stuck by then for what else they might like to have in our Garden.

We waited a year ... and a half ... and a few months more ... and what did we have? - no Hedgehogs ... not even so much a holidaying Hedgehog just passing through whilst on a special night out?! ... and so Mum asked me if I would mind her re-gifting the (rather expensive!) Hedgehog House onto a friend of a friend - who lives on the other side of Stockport and had mentioned having recently been seeing a Hedgehog in her Back Garden and, of course, I said ... "Yes, so long as it is needed and it gets used then I'm all for it"

Roll on just a few months more? ... and, would you flippin' credit it after ALL of this time?!! ... NOW we have suddenly got ourselves a Hedgehog!!! - LOL!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sorry, not sorry ... (*giggles)

I'm over-hot, over-tired, and ohhh-so-over being held under House Arrest for almost all of this year so far and for the foreseeable future too.

I really need something nice to look forward to and to focus on - to start planning towards as we are still totally reliant on Home Delivery Services for absolutely everything here - and this cheering little thought works for me ;o> ...

Isabella | 1370 comments Decided to have a look for Perseids and astonishingly, within a few minutes saw a beauty, fleeting but very bright compared to the usual hair streaks. Decided I won't top that, so I'm not going to cultivate the crick in the neck... :o)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I've been sat on one of the Garden Benches out on the Patio in the dark (once the Security Lights went off) and thought there might be a problem with one of the Lights repeatedly flickering until I realised it was happening in three different places across the night Sky to the left of us.

I reckon there must be one Hell of a Thunder and Lightning Storm going on somewhere a good few miles from here which is why we are getting such a spectacular light show without any sound as well?

It explains the splitting Headache that has had me laid up in Bed all day long - as I almost always get one just before an almighty Storm kicks off around here.

Isabella | 1370 comments It's been really hot and humid here, all day but no storm or even rain to freshen things up. Sticky night to look forward to, I suppose.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Yeah, here too. It feels like furnace in my Room even with my Ceiling Fan on all of the time. I'm just catching up with some Laundry so that I can make it up to myself for staying in Bed until Teatime.

It's slightly cooler outside so it's no great hardship for me in bobbing in and out to the Garage every half hour - where we keep the Washer and Dryer. Lots of flitty bitey things are whizzing all around and clearly out in force though and I've got several itchy bites on the back of my Neck as sore souvenirs now.

Just one more hour-long load and then I'm calling it a day ;o>

I hope it suddenly starts to get cooler for you there in Wales, Isabella ... x
