Where the hell has all the salad cream gone? Why on earth would people bulk-buy salad cream?

We've never had shortage of eggs around here. Then again, the town is surrounded by egg factories (what some people still quaintly call "farms"). No shortage of any of those other things, either, apart from salad cream. I was glad to be able to get peppers again today, and bread flour (wholemeal only).

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I dunno, Gordon? ;o<

One of my most favourite ways to use up any cold leftover boiled Potatoes is to make up my Mum's Recipe for Potato Salad.

You roughly chop up the Potatoes, add some Colmans Classic Mint Sauce and some Heinz Salad Cream, stir it all together until all the Potatoes are evenly covered, grab a big Spoon ... and then run off with the Bowl and refuse to share it with anyone else! - LOL!!! ;o>

I leave out the mint sauce but add a chopped boiled egg.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I have found the solution to my Dad's Porridge Oats shortage though ;o>

I've been automatically Googling Brand Websites since the Lock-down to see if they have decided to set up any Online Shops and I'm delighted to report that Mornflake is selling through their own Website and is also selling at very good prices too ...

https://www.mornflake.com/shop/

... I've just ordered Mornflake Creamy Superfast Oats (4 x 3kg) for £15.80 ... and because the Order comes to more than £15 there is no Delivery Cost to pay on top ... YAYYY!!! ;o>

That'll keep my Dad in Oats until Christmas ... Hee, Hee, Hee!!!

I have to admit that when the train pulls in to Crewe station past the Mornflake factory and I see the massive silos of oats I have often wondered where they all go, as I so rarely see Mornflake packets on supermarket shelves. I'd thought they must sell a lot to the catering sector (hotels, etc.). I hadn't thought of direct-to-customer online sales.

Hope your dad enjoys his oats. [ahem]

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Honestly, my Dad just never stops with keeping on with going on about needing Oats and always having in bags of Apples (for chopping up and lightly microwaving) so that he can add them to his Breakfast! ... on and on and on and on!!!

That's when he ever lets up on trying to get me into a panic over Toilet Rolls, that is! ... and we have around about a good month's worth of those too ... yet he's STILL utterly fixated on us needing more because he is absolutely convinced that we are about to run out any day now!

Once every week or so, we have a very kind Neighbour that comes by to ask if they can fetch us anything from the Shops while they are there - and he actually stands behind me wringing his Hands and looking so pathetic that it would almost break your Heart! But I don't like to rely on any Neighbours for anything more than just a couple of the most essential things because I worry about them putting themselves out and at an increased risk to their own health by doing so - so I am constantly making sure, via the Internet and bulk buys, that we have more than enough in of just about everything we need to last us all!

Oats! ... Apples! ... Apples! ... Oats! ... !

I'm starting to feel like I'm trying my best to keep a flippin' Shire Horse fed here!!! ;o>

If the Olympics would only make this a Sport? - he'd win us all a Gold Medal!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Well, that's what happens when you are already overweight by a good couple of stones and then you develop a severe Heart Condition and go on to have a Stroke followed by becoming increasingly disabled through Osteoarthritis in your Hips and Spine ... and you sit around a lot more, you barely exercise anymore, and you eat reasonably healthily but nevertheless over-eat on portion sizes at every Meal time, I'm afraid.

He easily put on lots of extra weight that only helped to make all of his Health problems even worse - and so I've been giving him ever-so-slightly smaller amounts over the last 4 to 5 years now and Mum also tries to keep him active every day by getting him doing easy enough Jobs around the House to stop him from just sitting around doing nothing but Crosswords or dropping off to sleep all of the time ;o>

Good on you, Suzy, You must have done his health the world of good.

message 6323: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Not really to be honest with you? - he will always be ill due to the severity of the Heart Disease that he has and he barely survived his Major Stroke back in 2013 and has gone on to have several smaller ones since then.

Permanent damage has already been done and has led on to him having Vascular Dementia - and not even having two successful Hip Replacements in recent years has helped improve on his very limited Mobility issues all that much - but at least they have helped him to be in far less pain now on walking, sitting, and lying down so it still all been worthwhile and a huge blessing ;o>

We always eat very well - but we do tend to eat too much - and as someone who is even more physically disabled than my Dad is I also have to be extremely careful with my intake too as I can all too easily manage to put on extra weight as well! ;oO

I'm SO jealous of Helen and all of her Meal times right now - LOL!!! ;o>

message 6324: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments BEDTIME! - YAYYY!!! ... I've been online almost nonstop for over two days now in trying my very best to put together some kinds of plans for my Mum's 80th next Friday.

She is typically saying that she has got no expectations at all of anything special happening and that it will only be just another day after all and not anything to plan for or to worry about it?

Every finely attuned and wise Son and Daughter surely knows though that that all Google Translates into ... "I might be saying to you that I'm genuinely really not at all bothered and I may even put on a brave face about it all on the big day itself - but you know only too well that I'll actually be incredibly hurt, absolutely devastated, and get very depressed about it too if my Birthday really does turn out to only be nothing more than just another day!" ... LOL!!! ;o>

I have Flowers on order through our favourite Florist who is thankfully going to be open and is hoping to be receiving fresh Flower Supplies first thing on Thursday morning, some emergency food supplies on standby in the Freezer all ready to knock up a really nice last minute Meal should we not be able to book any delivery of a special Takeaway ... and I think that I might still possibly be about to get a really beautiful Celebration Cake made up for her as well?!! ;o>

I bought my own Birthday Card for her months ago now but had not realised that Dad still hadn't got one yet and so I've managed to get him alone this afternoon while Mum was walking Mitzi and had him just about focussed for long enough to choose one from off Amazon - where I have got a Free Trial of Prime running on my Account at the moment - so I'm hoping that this will mean it really will be arriving first thing on Monday or by Tuesday to Wednesday at the very latest.

Dad was typically all too easily distracted by all of the other Recommendations that were showing up on the Pages and soon became far more interested in wanting to be looking at Lawn Mowers instead! - but I was ready for that happening and had picked out and put five Cards into my Basket all ready for him to look at and he thankfully chose the one that I had also thought was the prettiest one with the most loveliest words in it ;o>

I'm completely and utterly shattered now though so ...

x Nighty-Night x Sleepy-Tight x and very Sweet Dreams to all x

Indeed. Tho I could be getting Aunt Acid mixed up with her older sister Shrooms. Not quite identical twin sisters but remarkably alike in some respects.

Suze was talking about the woofer driving the car so... yep, definitely shrooms. : )

Blastronaut | 1061 comments For what it's worth, I too have a huge bowl for my serials. Very fussy with me serials too - I put three different types of serial in and always in a certain order. Maybe that says more about my mental health than my size but... well, I'm a tad short of six foot (alright then, five-eleven) and weigh around seventeen stone. That'd be fine if I'd been hitting the steroids (well it wun't but ya know what I mean) but I haven't. I'm a fat basket.

To be absolutely honest with you, Blastro, Mitzi is not very good at all on Three Point Turns and is pretty rubbish at Parallel Parking too - and I have to put the Brakes on for her because her Legs aren't long enough so her Feet won't reach the Pedals ;o>

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Ha ha very good Lez! D'ya know I don't think I've ever listened to The Archers? Dunno if that makes me odd or cool. Or just bloody uncultured.

No milk beverages for me Suze, despite the huge intake of it with my serials. Not keen on drinking the stuff. Odd eh?

message 6331: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments My Dad carries excessive weight very well and fairly evenly enough which means he has always got away somewhat over the years with being so much heavier on the Scales than he actually looks to be.

His ongoing issues with Blood Pressure and Joint Pain have become slightly less troublesome to him now for losing the weight - but the biggest issue was that I couldn't help to get him as comfy or easily manage to turn him over in his Bed during the time of both of his Hip Replacement Surgeries because he was becoming far too heavy a weight for me to be able to cope with.

Although I'm (thankfully) still reasonably flexible - I'm definitely not as strong now as I always used to be.

Over the last 10 years I've suddenly come to develop some sort of an intolerance to having too much of it, Blastro. I won't ever give up on it in Drinks if I can help it - but I find I do have to be careful not to carelessly indulge in having too much Dairy all in the one day.

If I have some Yoghurt on a Fruit Salad and then also have some Cheese (and Ohhh Boy!!! do I LOVE Cheese!) as part of another Meal, I invariably get severe IBS pains within a few hours of doing so and end up in needing to take Buscopan to deal with it over the next 12 to 24 hours.

Mmmmmmmm Cheese!!! - Ohhh, it is just SO worth any pain though!!! ;o>
