suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Well, the Boneless Turkey Joint from Campbells Meats was absolutely gorgeous! ... it was tasty, tender, and very moist ... and we all really enjoyed it ;o>

Having unfortunately bought a rotten Turkey for Christmas from Morrisons, that we only discovered was bad first thing on Christmas Day when it was far too late to do anything about it, my Dad was adamant that he wasn't having any ... but he couldn't resist trying this Joint out after the glorious smell of it cooking filled the Kitchen and then Mum asked him to carve it up for us.

I had had to buy in Sausages and Bacon brands that we hadn't tried out before but they turned out to be a great buy and were a huge success as well - and M&D now want me to source some more of them if I can ;o>

The Ice Cube Test for the Freezer was carried out overnight - thanks for that tip, Grizzly! ... x - and I have just checked and am delighted to report that I have indeed got a tray of solid Ice Cubes this morning - YAYYY!!! ;o>

It's taken since Sunday morning to be able to do it because my Dad never wanted the Freezer or for it to be in HIS Garage either and so he has insisted and persisted on repeatedly moving it all around, hour after hour, apparently in search of an acceptable 'sweet spot' for it to go in. I've just had to walk away and leave him to it or I'll risk ending up seriously in danger of being driven completely crackers as well by all of the endless and utterly pointless messing around - as all it needs is a neat tucked away spot on one of the flattest bit of the floor with the benefit of a Plug Socket close nearby.

It was eventually accepted and agreed very late last night that the place that I had first thought of, chosen, and positioned it in was actually the best place for it after all! - but I just hope to God now that the bottom of it is still sound after being moved around so much backwards and forwards across a concrete floor in the meantime! ;oO

I've always wanted an extra Freezer to make life easier for us all here but Dad has always refused to agree to this in the past - and sadly it always has to take for massive arguments between M&D, and now for an International Pandemic Crisis as well, to be able to push forwards on basic common sense and the achievement of positive progress.

This though is sadly just one of the many unremitting and relentless realities of living with an already incredibly difficult and challenging Parent who has now also got Stroke related/Vascular Dementia issues going on as well. I'm just so incredibly grateful that my Mum is still doing well and holding things together despite now experiencing some of her own (much milder and far less confrontational) Dementia issues from time to time

I've got Frozen Pasties coming up from Cornwall tomorrow!!! ... (more on that later!) ... so I'm immensely relieved that we finally got there in the end and just in time for me being able to set up for their arrival ;o>

Lez | 7490 comments Suzy, the milk arrived today! Unheralded by any notification so it’s a good job I saw the van arrive. Dated end of October so I won’t run out any time soon. The woman (!) who brought the really heavy boxes put them on the top step for me without my asking.
Can’t thank you enough, Suzy. 😀😀😃

You all know what I say about Mrs Grizzly's cooking - well now I've had that opinion validated;

On Sunday, I put together a full roast and Mrs Grizzly's contribution was to make the Yorkshire puddings. Fast forward to today, and the remaining Yorkies were thrown out for the birds, and roundly ignored except for one pigeon who warily circled one of them three times, risked a quick peck then took off in fright!!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Okay, who likes a proper Pasty?!! ;o>

Well? - how about an absolutely delicious traditional Cornish Pasty that has been delivered by Courier in a still frozen state from the award-winning Prima Bakeries in Redruth in Cornwall all the way to your very own Doorstep?!!

One of many of my Google Searches for essential supplies has been looking into whether there are any useful and reasonably priced Gift Hampers that I might possibly be able to order in for us ... and, if there's one thing that we all most definitely like here, then it's an honest-to-goodness genuine and traditional Cornish Pasty.

I've come across various places over the years where Visitors in the Gift Shops can get to order a Postal Delivery of something to be sent on to their Home Address, or to family and friends, and so I put 'Pasties by Post' into Google and was delighted to see it come up with several options ;o>

They all unfortunately seemed to be rather expensive though until I came across the 'Prima Bakeries' who have only recently joined forces with 'The Cornish Hamper Store' in order to sell their award-winning Cornish Pasties online.

First take a look at the Bakeries at ... https://www.primabakeries.co.uk/buy-c...

Then click on the Button that takes you to ... https://thecornishhamperstore.co.uk/c...

And there you will find ... Standard Traditional Steak Pasties, Vegan Country Vegetable Pasties, Vegetarian Cheese & Onion Cornish Pasties, Large Traditional Steak Pasties and Gluten-Free Traditional Steak Pasties ... all available to order in a bulk-buy of 12 at a time.

We are just about to receive our third(!) order (since the end of February) of the Large Traditional Steak Pasties - which are absolutely delicious, as big your Hand(!), and an incredibly satisfying meal all in one.

Delivered frozen in a temperature-controlled Thermal Box - you simply unpack them down to just being in the blue bag that they are wrapped in, seal it and pop it in your Freezer Drawer, and then you can cook them from frozen in the Oven for 50 to 60 mins whenever you feel the fancy for one ;o>

Our (now repeat) Order of the Large Traditional Steak Pasties x 12 for £40 works out at them being £3.33 each - which I think is an absolute bargain given the sheer size of them and the excellent packed-almost-to-bursting quantity and quality of their Ingredients. M&D often just have one halved between them - as if they have a whole one each they find that it so completely satisfies that it fills them up for the whole of the rest of the day - LOL!!! ;o>

Damn you, Suzy;

My biggest weakness while trying to lose weight has been a hot Cornish pasty. I've been ever so good and not even thought about one for weeks now, then you go and show me where to get them a dozen at a time!!

Damn you, I say, damn you :)

(It's a good job the freezers full)

We love a good Pasty, Sera. We spent every single Summer Holiday of my childhood B&B'ing at a gorgeous Farmhouse owned by some wonderful folk (who became family to us) in Constantine in Cornwall - so we have certainly eaten a fair few in our time and these are definitely very high up on the List of some of the very best that we've ever had ;o>

They've proved themselves to be quite a Lifeline too, of a reasonably healthy and extremely satisfying all-in-one hot meal (straight from Freezer to Table) while I've been struggling somewhat to source and set us up with some Deliveries of Meat and Vegetables during the last 6 weeks.

I hope that you get to enjoy them just as much as we do! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments WoW?!! ... I came across this today and I think it pretty much says it all really. It was written and posted up on Instagram 6 days ago by Yasir Hussain who is an Actor, Screenwriter and Playwright based in Islamabad.

He wrote ...

“We fell asleep in one world, and woke up in another.
Suddenly Disney is out of magic, Paris is no longer romantic,
New York doesn’t stand up anymore, the Chinese Wall is no longer a fortress,
and Mecca is empty.

Hugs and kisses suddenly become weapons,
and not visiting parents and friends becomes an act of love.
Suddenly you realize that power, beauty and money are worthless, of love.
Suddenly you realize that power, beauty and money are worthless, and can’t get you the oxygen you’re fighting for.

The world continues its life and it is beautiful. It only puts humans in cages.
I think it’s sending us a message: ‘You are not necessary.
The air, earth, water and sky without you are fine. When you come back, remember that you are my guests. Not my masters.’”

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments I grew up in Cornwall, grew up with Pasties, we used to buy them from a local bakery and they were always a go to easy lunch when out and about.
How I miss them now! I've never seen the real thing in Ireland, though I do hear there's a Cornish pasty shop in Dublin, genuine Cornish Pasties shipped in.

So now I make them. I buy Beef Flank, which works well, and it's easy to do. Biggest part is making the pastry, which I've done, but now I mostly cheat and buy the ready made stuff.

Takeaway lunch food is mostly foul in Ireland, mainly greasy hot counter muck/breakfast rolls/bad sandwiches.

I never fully appreciated the quality available in Cornwall, be it Pasties or decent fish and chips.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sadly, I think that there are still quite a few utterly deluded and ignorant folk who can't bring themselves to believe that they might possibly be at any risk, Isabella - someone and somewhere else, maybe, but not them and not where they are ;o<

But ... now the fantastic news! ;o> ... isn't it just absolutely wonderful what Turkey has been doing over the last few weeks? - in donating such huge amounts of Emergency Medical Supplies including many tonnes of desperately needed PPE Equipment ... and, not just to us, but also to Italy and Spain and several other Balkan countries as well?!! - YAYYY!!! ;o>

And all of it has been sent to us in Boxes with a Quote from the 13th century Sufi Poet Jalaluddin Rumi printed on them ... "After hopelessness, there is so much hope and after darkness, there is the much brighter sun"

And out of kindness and in ... "support for our friends in the UK" ... Germany has generously donated 60 Mobile Ventilators to the UK this week as well. It surprisingly hasn't been widely reported or acknowledged but the Bundeswehr has not only been flying Medical Supplies all around Europe for several weeks now but have also even been medevacing small numbers of Covid-19 Patients out of current hot spot areas in Italy and France and providing care for them in German Military and Civilian Hospitals.

These are quite heartbreakingly sad things to ever get to know of or to ever be in such great and urgent need of - but we know that we are not suffering all alone in this Covid-19 Crisis ... we have friends and they have chosen to see beyond their own extremely serious Health Crisis situations as to what is happening elsewhere (including here in the UK) and are generously sharing in what resources they have with us ... x

Germany do seem to have a handle on this whole mess don't they; I mean, unless I misread the numbers, their infection-to-loss ratio's gotta be the best in the world by a long way. I'll leave it at that because you don't want me getting started on our government's failures. It would all end in tears because no doubt there's some folk that think they've been doing a fantastic job from the get-go... and that would anger me no end. Besides, it's not really the time to be pointing the finger n all that, but when it's over some need bringing to account.
