Don't Kill Snails with Salt ... Creme Eggs & Toasted Teacakes ... Biscuits & Bench Stories, Life, the Universe, & Everything!

Sitting in on so many different Exams set on so many different Subjects and in different Languages as well. Can you understand the Papers that they are filling in? - or are you there to oversee the overall Exam Procedure?
Can you teach Phoebe to do that, or does the saying 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' also apply to cats? :)
It's turning into a lovely day here - laundry has been out since 6 A.M. and should be dry by now. Once that's in, I might even push the lawnmower over the grass :)
Dinner (NOT brunch!) will be cheese and mushroom omelette with salad :)

Can mine be Cheese Omelette with Smoked Bacon pieces and a side order of lightly microwaved Cherry Tomatoes with a fresh grind of Black Pepper please? ... and hold the Salad ;o>

Sorry;
Don't have any bacon pieces, smoked or otherwise, no cherry tomatoes and, looking out the window, no sunshine either, just plenty of dark clouds now.

The grey clouds have parted to blue skies and sunshine - YAYYY!!! ;o>
Even so, I still expect a tip :)
Silly me - I was expecting something useful like 'use a non-stick pan for your omelette so you don't need any oil'.
Should've known better :)

You've probably guessed by now that, at this stage of the negotiation, it will involve Cake ;o>

Strictly there to oversee exam procedures and to ensure as smooth a stress-free ride for the kids. However, on listening exams, where a CD or sound file is played for the kids to listen to, I certainly try to 'play along' with the French one to see how much or how little I understand. Have to admit that I switch off with Russian, Panjabi or Portuguese, though, and just think 'rather them than me'! I still have to follow along in the answer paper, though, so I know when to stop the CD or computer. It is usually possible to make out certain universal words whatever the language, however.

My sis and I can still count to 5, remember the words for sugar, milk, upstairs, 'what time is it?' and ask for 'a cup of warm tea please'. Couldn't be sure of the English spellings, though.
Happy Birthday Val - hope you have a great day :)
Turned out nice again, but getting a bit too warm for me, especially when trying to get to sleep of an afternoon - the bedroom fan is on full blast!

It's already gone 4pm though and I still haven't christened Tea yet?!! ;oO

We're going out with friends on Friday evening to a hog roast in one of the nearby villages. They probably won't even have to roast it, just stick it outside in the morning and it'll be cooked by the evening.
We went to one in Catus last Friday and they ended up holding it indoors as it was too cold and damp to have it in the market square where it's usually held.

They are in the Frozen Section (£3 for 12 in a pack) from Asda, Anita. I'd read all of the rave 5* Reviews online previously, but even so, I wasn't expecting them to be quite as amazing as they were - and I've never been all that big a fan of Macarons until now ;o>
I usually find them to be a bit too sweet when served up in an Afternoon Tea somewhere and not tending to have all that much flavour either - but these were just absolutely spot on as an extra special Sunday Tea-time treat. They would also make a fantastic and a very welcome gift to take along to a girly Coffee Morning or even on to a really posh Dinner Party.
My only fault with them was how irresistibly moreish they were! ;o>

Ohhh Derek?! ... I feel queasy just at the very thought of how hot it will be there! I hope Rig will be able to find himself somewhere cool to sit it out ... maybe he could take up permanent residence in the Shallow End of your Pool until the Heatwave passes?!! ;o>

Unfortunately we don't have a shallow end in the pool. He usually alternates between laying outside cooking himself for a while then going back inside to lay on the tiled floor to cool off. We also have a 'cool coat' for him if it really gets too much for him.

Needless to say he won't be going out for many walks after about 10:00 AM. Come to that, neither will we!

How's his French coming on? Can he bark in an authentic Accent yet? - LOL!!!"
No but he's developed a good Gallic shrug that he uses when small dogs bark at him. It's quicker than saying 'if you can't appreciate my magnificence I'll just ignore you' in doggish.

He's become so cultured and sophisticated now?! ... what a woofer! ;o>

Everytime it stops it's ... "Everyone out! - jobs to be done!" ... then mere minutes later it starts off again and it's ... "Everybody in - take cover!" ... LOL!!!
My Dad hasn't been paying attention though (as he likes to do his own thing in his own time regardless of everyone else) and so it is chucking it down right now and me and Mum are taking it in turns to wave down the Garden at him to where he has chosen to find shelter in the Shed rather than the House!
Mum just stood by the French Windows and held up a Mug of Tea and a piece of Toast for him to see and the scowls she is getting back off him are absolutely priceless! ... HA HA HA HA HA!!!
The first few spots of rain had us both rushing outside and frantically pulling laundry off the line, which is now in the tumble dryer. Obviously, it has now stopped raining but I'll be damned if I'm putting the laundry back outside again!
Dinner was bacon, eggs, chips and mushrooms and, having just waved Mrs Grizzly off to work, it looks like i'm doing the washing up before grabbing a couple of hours shut eye.
No work now until Saturday, but no sitting around idle either - got to go to Sheffield on Wednesday to pick up Granddaughter and will spend all day Thursday on moving Stepson into his house and unpacking all our new stuff currently in the garage and dining room :)

If you mean supervising the washing up, then it's too late - I've managed that all by myself :)
If, however, you are on about supervising the removals, then I would strongly advise against that - every move so far has resulted in snapping and shouting, normally as a result of uncoordinated lifting or fingers trapped between furniture and doorframes, and is not a pretty sight. I don't see this one being any different!
No fancy biscuits, but I can offer you a jam doughnut - limited time offer as they're going fast! :)

I'd much rather share a bag of Cat Treats with Phoebe - LOL!!! ;o>
Was that meant for your dad, and is he still stuck in the shed? :)

Mum just brought it in to me. I think she might possibly be trying to make it up to me that I couldn't get to go out anywhere on Friday after all?
Ahhh well ;o>
It's raining, it's pouring,
Mrs Grizzly is snoring! :)
I've left her to it as I've got things to do, including cancelling the removal truck. Not sure if the move has been postponed or has completely fallen through - haven't been told all the gory details yet, only that it's not happening on Thursday.

I have to keep mopping the Flooring! ;o>
ARRRGGGHHH!!! ... would those things to do involve building a 12 foot high Wall and then creating a Minefield all around the boundaries of your House ... just in case your Stepson decides to give up on his plans and try to move back in with you both again?!! - LOL!!!

E.On just sent M&D their monthly Bill and have offered them a new Contract with £173 off in a Deal which involves getting a Smart Meter - which was obviously far too tempting an Offer to not think hard about and so they had very reluctantly decided that we were just going to have to get one now.
I've been trying to get Dad interested in Money Saving Expert and their Energy Club for some time - but he struggles with new technology, my Mum has no idea or any interest in how to even switch a Laptop on, and both my parents would prefer to pay more if it means holding out against the Internet in favour of using the Phone and having Postal contact whenever it comes to any Accounts and Bills.
That's perfectly understandable - my parents want to continue to manage many things for the most part by themselves while they still can, plus Mum is absolutely terrified that my Dad will make a badly confused and horrendous mistake if he tries to do anything online without us knowing anything about it, and she is also scared that (if anything happens to him) she or I will not be able to work out what he has got set up unless he has got all of it in the form of Paperwork and all carefully filed away for reference.
The problem is though that virtually everything now is going over to being almost exclusively online and so they know that they are going to have to try to accept this whether they like it or not.
Anyways, they came to me and asked me to look at it and work out how to apply for the Smart Meter as part of this Deal - and I persuaded them to take another look at MSE and the Energy Club and found 7 Deals that would save them far more with the best Deal being the MSE's Energy Club's Top Pick ... with Octopus Energy.
And not only can they save £568 a year ... they will also get £25 Cashback ... there are no nasty hidden costs involved ... the Company and their Customer Service has been widely reviewed as being excellent and easily accessible ... they are apparently the only Energy Company to have been recommended by Which for 2019 ... the Website is so incredibly easy to use ... AND, best of all, M&D don't need to have a Smart Meter fitted to qualify for switching over to them! ... YAYYY!!! ;o>
We are with Octopus - let me just check about referrals :)
Yep - split £100 with referral code.

Do you know I very nearly messaged you first thing this morning as well - as I had it lurking at the back of my Mind that you had mentioned something about switching over to Octopus a while back?!
Ahhh well! ... M&D are absolutely thrilled to bits with their huge saving - and it will come in very handy as we are going to have to pay for a TV Licence next year now that Pensioners have been excluded from having a free one.
Maybe you can persuade your Stepson to go with Octopus and use your Referral Code with him? They do seem to be one of the best and cheapest around - and I also really like the 'green' side of their Company as well ;o>
Never mind :)
Yeah, we were with them at a previous address but went with OVO when we moved here, as they already supplied the house. After they tried upping the monthly DD to over £250 per month, we swapped back to Octopus. 12 months down the line, we are just about to pay off the last instalment owing on the final bill to OVO, and good riddance to them!
What we like about Octopus is the amount of communication - they prompt you for monthly meter readings and advise you when your monthly DD is due to go out.
Also, our account page is very easy to navigate and we can, if we want, look back through all previous meter readings and can judge for ourselves where consumption varies, all without the need for a smart meter.
We are on their fixed rate green tariff, and our DD is coming down by about £1.30 to about £86 from next month.
They also sign off emails with "Love and power, the Octopus Energy Team" - always makes me smile :)

Not challenging for kids of polish heritage who doubtless converse in the language at home! Same for exams I've invigilated this season in Panjabi, Italian, Russian, Portuguese and French, all involving native speakers. It never fails to amaze me how diverse the makeup of our local community.
