Isabella | 1370 comments Tomato sauce over brown every time.

D and s-in-law make their own scotch eggs with soft boiled centres but as I'm a veggie, I haven't tried them. I love eggs, hard, soft scrambled etc. My all-time favourite is hard boiled eggs with a lentil and spinach curry. Yummy!

Ooh, like the sound of that. Will give it a whirl. I’m not veggie but very rarely eat meat and don’t buy any. I love lentils and throw them into lots of things.

So you only eat meat if you can slip a couple of chops into your bag while the butcher isn't looking?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It's a very neat trick, isn't it, Gordon?

Apparently Lez just throws a bag of Lentils into the middle of a Butcher's Shop and then she takes her pick of the Meat on display while the Staff are all busy cleaning up!

... Hee, Hee, Hee!!! ;o>

Martin O' | 2196 comments OK, some of my faves.....
HP Brown - added to mince and tatties with a few carrots and peas mixed in and mashed up into a sloppy mess.
Fried eggs - as an alternative try barbecue sauce, I prefer mine cooked in a good pool of oil or fat, a couple of hash browns and some mushrooms dipped in oil then roasted in oven, small portabello are the best. Bacon/ Sausage optional but like fresh tomatoes thick sliced and fried. Black pudding and fried bread are also exceptable.
Bacon butties with cheese spread instead of butter and sweet chilli sauce.
Poached eggs. Another perfectly acceptable adaptation on hot buttered toast.
Mash potatoes. Boil with skins on,add butter, cheese spread and mayonnaise, black pepper. May need to experiment with this to find what suits your palate.
Scrambled egg. Again cheese spread and mayonnaise. If you're feeling adventurous chuck in some fried tomato, mushrooms or anything else you fancy.
This one is slightly more off the wall, fish fingers mashed with beans and tartare sauce, serve with chips.
Hard boiled egg, mayonnaise, cheese spread, diced onion and a liberal sprinkling of cayenne pepper to give it some ooomph.
Happy eating folks!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Cheese Spread as in 'Philadelphia'? - or a Cheddary Cheese Spread? ;o>

message 457: by Martin (new)

Martin O' | 2196 comments Either will do Suzy, gourmet's choice. Seriously Strong Spreadable is very tasty or for the more adventurous St Agur Blue Cream Cheese, though I find it a bit strong and tends to overpower other flavours, very nice on Ritz Crackers.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Okay-dokey ... it's not something that we tend to buy but I do rather like the idea of it spread on a Bacon Butty instead of Butter ;o>

I absolutely adore Fried Mushrooms, although again, I use as little oil as I can possibly get away with while cooking them in a non-stick Pan with the Lid on. And I buy those huge Flat Mushrooms which 'pop' with all of their gorgeous juices in the Mouth just like a lightly cooked Egg Yolk does ... Yummy!!!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Actually ... talking of rather less appealing things ... I have had a Parcel turn up today that was Dispatched by a Seller on Amazon on Monday and it has sadly arrived via Royal 'Snail' Mail in a very unsatisfactory and distinctly dubious condition ;o<

I had the 'munchies' off and on over the Weekend and so I decided to treat myself to some Chocolate Nibbles (a very nostalgic blast from the past) and they have arrived in a Box that is otherwise in immaculate condition apart from two large holes that have gone right through the Box and the plastic bag inside to the contents - and I have an awful feeling that it was not done by a very careless or even a curious person but far more likely done by hungry Mice or Rats instead!

Both holes definitely look like they have been gnawed at rather than bashed open or somehow punctured and torn in any other way.

I've contacted the Seller, as they weren't exactly expensive but they weren't all that cheap an Order either, and as it could be a very serious Pest Control issue with their Sweet Warehouse or with the various Royal Mail places where the Parcel has been stored while it was in transit for the last few days.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Okay, so I came on Goodreads today just for a bit of a chat and to play a few Games between getting a rather long list of Jobs done ...

And, instead, I've had some great recommendations and been shown several links to some interesting Websites ... and ended up giving up completely on getting anything else done so far in favour of searching for and then giving in to temptation on buying an Elbow 2-CD set and the first three Books in the Sue Grafton alphabet crime series!!! ;oO

HELP!!! ... I'm off to hopefully get something done with what's left of the day before anyone else comes up with any more fantastic suggestions!!! ;o>

Would you like to mark some statistics papers for me?

message 483: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Gordon, I doubt that I would ever understand the Questions never mind the Answers! - LOL! - so I'll pass on that one, thank you ;o>

I've got a bit of essential Housework done, sorted through a huge pile of Paperwork for either keeping, Paper Waste, or shredding, typed out and printed off an important Letter for my M&D, and am currently on my 4th load of Laundry, plus I have been keeping the two little hairy woofers playfully amused as well while M&D were off out for the Afternoon - and so I do feel like I have got something done with the day now ;o>

Val H. | 22146 comments Two gold stars Suzy! That's a day well spent in my book. If you want to come round my place and do some similar chores, you'd be very welcome. It's been stinking hot all week (42 degrees today - how do those tennis players do it???) so we're mostly vegging out (once the pot plants are watered - in-grounds can fend for themselves), reading (the taxing A God in Ruins), watching mindless TV (Lovejoy) and trying to get my jigsaw finished.

The other day I heard a woman (one of those high-powered young things I am in awe of) say she reserves her mornings for all things creative, her afternoons for management tasks and only answers emails between 3 and 4pm. Oh to be so disciplined! but then again, I figure I've earned my retirement and I reserve the freedom to do what I want when I want. No one will starve, dust only comes back, so I may as well put on another CD or whatever.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sometimes it really is not a very good idea to idly wander around the Internet and find yourself checking out the names of old friends ;o<

I've just found an 'in memoriam' post, dated January 16th 2016, on an Animal Sanctuary Website for someone who I met at College and who was for many years one of my very best and most dearest friends.

She was the girl who introduced me at the age of 19 to one of the very few and my all-time most favourite of alcoholic drinks, Dark Rum & Pepsi, and who was also my special guest at the family-only meal that my parents hosted for my 21st Birthday.

She had such a lonely and challenging childhood as an only child and also a full-time Carer to two very difficult and extremely demanding elderly parents who both suddenly died when she was only just into her 20's - and so we shared in good times and in bad times. And even though we sadly lost contact with each other over 20 years ago now, I have nevertheless still thought about her so often over the years and always wished her well.

To know, through reading such a beautiful and detailed tribute post about her, that she finally found her place in this world and also made a real difference in doing so as well just pleases me so much and does not surprize me at all - but to know that she very suddenly died and at so very young an age, still in her 40's, just breaks my heart and hurts me so much ... RIP Vee - Goodnight Sweetheart and God Bless you ... x x x

Isabella | 1370 comments Oh Suzy, sometimes life just doesn't seem fair. Your friend sounds lovely and she leaves good memories behind. That's all any of us can hope. Big hug.

message 490: by suzysunshine7 (last edited Jan 22, 2018 03:36AM) (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Bless you, Isabella ... x x x

Vee was very much my teenage to early adulthood best friend and so we discovered and explored our first early steps into 'grown up' independence from our families at the same time - we shared such a lot and came to do so many 'firsts' together.

First jobs, first legal drinks out in Pubs, first meals out in some very posh Restaurants, learning to drive (she mastered this with such ease but I never did! - LOL!), having day trips off out to places that interested us, and developing our lifelong passions - her for Vegetarian and then Vegan cookery, and me for Cakes and baking.

We may have lost touch - but I just feel so incredibly sad in knowing now that she is no longer out there in the world still blazing her own way onwards and continuing to make such a huge difference to so many along the way as well.
