I am scared to actually voice this opinion but most of the time I kind of wanted to punch Ben Parish in the face. I don't believe it's necessarily his fault but I think a part of me hates him. I don't wanna get crushed by Ben Parish fan girls as I am a die hard Evan Walker fan and I get defensive when anyone insults him. So are there any other people like me out there? Anyone not really feeling Ben Parish so much???

I have this theory that I don't like Ben because of how much I am in love with Evan. Like there is no room in my heart for any other male lead in the book so I just direct all my anger at him because I see him as some kind of threat. Stay away from Cassie, Ben!!

Are you serious? Ben is the awesomest character I have EVER read about! Evan is the one who's the extremely creepy perv :X
My reasons for hating on Ben are purely because I think he's a "fraud character" (and okay, my love for Evan). I feel like his character done a complete U-turn after the waves and that his personality changed because of the circumstances. While that's okay and would most likely happen to anybody in real life, I didn't like how he was made out to be some kind of hero when he was really just following orders. I think a hero should depend on their character in the most normal of situations (aka before the waves when they were all at school living a normal life), and not when put in a life-or-death situation. Most people would be seen as heroes had they been in his position. Basically, the things he does throughout the book shouldn't excuse his douchebaggery attitude of his former life. That's all! 
Yes! Finally people who don't like him as much as I do! I really, really, really hope that Cassie ends up with Evan and not Ben. I cannot stand his character at all really.

My reasons for not liking(hating) Ben:
1)He left his little sister!! I mean really, what kind of coward does that? He should have fought to the death for her and if she was already dead, killed those MF's in revenge.
2)He is the weakest one in the book. He's not necessarily weak, just the weakest of the bunch.
3) How could he not notice or remember an amazing girl like Cassie. I mean, really?
4)He was only so protective of Cassie's brother because of his own guilt over his little sister not because he has some sort of great moral code to protect helpless children.
5)He kissed Cassie at the end of the book. What was that about? Her special guy friend may very well be dead and the girl he supposedly has a crush on is all but a dew feet away and he decides, "you know what would be a good idea? If I were to kiss Cassie right now for no particular reason."?????
Screw Ben!!! Hmph!

Just to offer a different perspective:
1) Personally I think this made him more realistic. When there is a dangerous situation the instinct is to run. Instinct is pretty powerful. It's really easy to judge someone else for leaving a loved one behind, but until you are placed in that situation you really don't know what you would do. We all like to puff out our chests and say "well, I wouldn't do that..." but most of us probably would. It doesn't make him a bad person, just human.
3)Cassie only talked to him once. It sounded like they were in a big school, he couldn't be expected to know everyone. If he actually knew/talked to her it might have been different. I don't think it is fair to blame him for this one. I'm sure most people overlook the quiet/shy people in their lives. In fact, as a quiet/shy person I know we are chronically overlooked by most people.
4) I agree that his guilt played a big part in this, but that's pretty normal human behavior. Again, I think that made him more realistic. Plus, I think he genuinely liked Sammy.
5)I agree with you here, that was out of left field.
All in all, I thought Ben was an interesting, complex character. He was actually my favorite in the whole book. I even liked him much better than Cassie, who I found to be annoying and stupid.

Yep totally agree hahaha especially number 5 Where the hell did that come from? lol All I'm saying is that Evan better bloody be in the infinite sea or I'm going to be so upset and angry lol

I kind of like them both! I mean, I certainly don't HATE Ben, like everyone else is saying (because he did look out for Sammy, and looking after the little ones is something that will always make me like someone better), but I really like Evan, too. I was thinking that maybe I liked Ben with Ringer, and Evan with Cassie? I guess we'll have to see how The Infinite Sea plays out!
I don't like Ben or Ringer, but I'm not really sold on Evan either. Ben is made out to be practically god-like in Cassie's mind and I guess I was expecting too much, maybe? Also, the trope that everyone seems to love writing about. You know, the one where boy is loved by everyone, then boy meets girl that is less than thrilled, so boy decides to make girl like him? That happens. Usually I don't really mind it, even enjoy reading it, but it just wasn't executed very well here. Also, Ringer can go die in a hole. :) As for Evan, I do believe he was pretty creepy and as the story progressed, I think I got a little over that after his sacrifices came about.Regardless, I think Evan is a much better choice that Ben because really, after having been inside his mind, I've decided he's super annoying. Every time he said something along the lines of, "Wow, Ringer's so pretty. She never smiles though. So I'm gonna make her smile." I just wanted to barf. Every other thing he thought was utter boredom to me. Cassie's parts were like a godsend!
And @Pricila, I don't believe this is a thread based on discussing why Evan's a creep. This is a thread that OBVIOUSLY, judging by the name of it, wants to hate on Ben Parish, come to his defense. Not defend Evan. So you can go ahead and make your own discussion to hate on Evan if you don't agree.
@Pricila. It's definitely not going to be a nice conversational environment when you started out being completely snarky and unkind from the get go. Your last comment directly insulted what someone said. So I'm not exactly sure what you'd call a nice conversational environment.I also did mention that I still thought Evan was creepy, but don't you understand the concept of redemption? If someone does something bad, do you automatically say, "Oh, man. This person was bad before. They'll never do anything good in their life ever because of it." Yes, his sacrifice didn't erase that behavior, but it doesn't mean that his actions are worth nothing. And please tell me, where in my statement did I say it was okay to have predatory behavior? Because I sure would like to know where you got that from.
Maybe what you're saying is true, but that doesn't mean that you have the right to shove your beliefs down their throat. They have a right to like their fictional characters as much as anyone else. Maybe they didn't go into this book to read about female empowerment and whatnot. But that's still okay. They aren't doing anything wrong by liking someone you disagree with.
No one's opinion is wrong in this, but putting someone down because all they had to contribute was that they enjoyed reading about someone isn't exactly the way to keep civility alive.
@Pricila - TLDR. Not worth it.
I don't have anything against Ben and loved the book but I prefer Evan. Either way the people who were cast as both of them is nothing I imagined

She's not trying to have a discussion but just to argue, insult, and cause problems.
Thank you for participating in my discussion and posting your views. I agreed with you earlier when you said that Cassie's parts were a godsend. I kept looking to see how long Ben's parts were so I could move on get to hers. And OMG, lol, why the Ringer hate? I'm interested in getting to know more about her in the second book.

I agree with everything you say, it's just that Ben still just rubbed me the wrong way. That's why I was hesitant to post my views of my dislike for him. I know a lot of people like him and with good reasons and I'm not one to hate on a character just because I can. I was just wondering if I was the only one with this attitude towards Ben.

@Joann H - I think I just don't trust Ringer. I mean, I'm pretty sure she hasn't done anything particularly untrustworthy, but she makes my feels a wilt a little on the inside. I don't WANT to not like her, but I can't stop myself. I kept peeking at the pages too and I know that's cheating and it's wrong, but I was so impatient to get past Ben's parts!
I wasn't a huge fan of Ben and actually skipped some of his parts and then went back to them because I just couldn't wait for more Cassie & Evan. I love Evan! I really hope the next book doesn't have a love triangle. I thought Cassie finally came around to her feelings for Evan and that Ben was into Ringer and then Ben kissed her. It was a peck half on the check half on the lips but still! Anyway I don't think Evan is a creeper. You have to understand he is an other and had to learn about Cassie and humans. He mostly watched her when he was a Silencer and then later he was mostly just checking up on her and stuff. I think he is a great guy because he is putting her first and going against his people for her. I just melted when he said that he can't be both other and human and he has to make his choice. I hope he gets back to Cassie quick because I get so bored without him in the scenes!

It's like kicking a puppy or something.
I'm on the fence about Ringer. That's why I want o get a POV from her in the next book. I have a feeling that we're in for some good surprises there.

Honestly, I kind of hated Evan. I love Cassie and Ben together, even though no one else does, and the author would never let that happen. Evan just seemed too perfect, and kind of a pushover. I don't really like people who appear to be so in love that reason just goes away. Too dramatic and stupid for me, I hated Evan from the beginning. Even when Cassie was falling in love with him, I guess I kept expecting her to just snap out of it. Yes, I know that's stupid. I understand that a lot of people like Evan, but I am not one of those people. I don't know. Maybe he was too sugary or something, but while I probably would have liked him in another book, in this one, I just didn't think he fit right. Then again, I also hate Ringer a little bit, and she's the opposite. In general, I have no problem with cold and calculating people, but Ringer seriously got on my nerves. Not exactly sure why, but it probably had something to do with how mean she was to Cassie. Which doesn't make too much sense to me, because I hated Cassie for some of the same reasons Ringer did, but I still like Cassie as a character. I guess I really hate her for thinking Cassie is stupid, for thinking she knows everything. I wish she'd just shut up about herself, and then she calls Cassie self-absorbed. Also, Ben Parish is a darling. Most of you probably think he's the sugary and overly perfect one, but I love him. I know I disagree with a lot of people on this post, but I still want to share my opinion.
