Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Half-Point Progress Report
1) How many books have you been reading? Have you finished any? Are you on track with respect to your readathon goals so far?
I've read from 6 books and have finished 5 of them! Super on track with no goals! lol
2) Have you eaten real food today? (Not just junk food, ACTUAL HEALTHY FOOD) What was your favorite food or beverage so far?
I had some veg tray and green pepper and onion pizza for "healthy" food lol. I've enjoyed everything I've eaten and drank today!
3) Have you been participating in any of the activities on our social media (sprints, photo challenges, discussion questions, BINGO, etc.)
Sprints, some photo challenges, some discussion questions. I should look at the Bingo board.
4) Are you growing sleepy? Do you plan to nap, or stop early, or are you extending the readathon hours to include sleep?
I'm a little tired. I put Bastien to bed at 8pm. I assume I'll go till 11ish before I really can't keep my eyes open any longer.
5) Have you been outside yet today? Have you had much exercise (besides the heavy lifting required to hold your book)?
I did go to a local café to start my readathon, drove Bastien around for a nap, and took a family trip to pick up the pizza. Also took the dog out twice and Bastien out once to check the mail. No walk today because it was raining all day.
6) How is your readathon going, overall?
It's going well and going fast as usual!

Now I've read Junior High (Tegan and Sara, #1) by Tegan Quin Tegan and Sara Crush (Tegan and Sara, #2) by Tegan Quin Displacement by Kiku Hughes . I think I'm not going to start anything else and just swap between A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara Beneath the Stars (Sugarlake, 1) by Emily McIntire until I fall asleep. It *seems* like there's still so much time left but I need my sleep, especially where Bastien is unpredictable as to when he wakes up! 🤣

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Hello for the Reverse Readathon!

I foolishly made plans on Saturday with some former coworkers. 🤦🏼‍♀️ At least I will get 2 hours of audio time driving back and forth. lol.

I have a walking, talking 18-month-old. 🤯 Bastien is growing every day, learning new words every day, being such a good-natured joy every day. He's such an independent little sir. If we go somewhere, he's a little uneasy for about 15-20 minutes and then he's off doing his own thing. He has his moments but who doesn't? He loves Ms. Rachel and Bluey. Ms. Rachel like, obsessively. 😆
He's got more teeth coming in and wakes up once a night most nights and seems to be becoming a steady 7:30am waker, which is sad because I used to be able to get him back to sleep till 9-10am just 2 months ago. lol. So this mama's gotta be in bed by 10pm if she wants all the sleep she can get! I have a hard time falling back asleep after he wakes in the night.
He continues to eat like crazy but the pickiness is starting to happen. Likes salmon one minute, won't eat it the next. Super fun time lol! Right now if he won't eat supper, it's an English muffin with peanut butter that will do! He's going through a not liking pouches phase so that sucks for the fridge ones that expire within weeks. Fine for the shelf stable ones that don't expire for months. I did get him to eat a Siggi's yogurt pouch today so maybe we're going back on pouches. 🤞🏻 I made some of my own last month that were not a big hit (why did I think strawberry, beet, red pepper would be good? Too beety). So they'll live in the freezer for awhile and I'll try every couple weeks lol.

Anywhoooo, I don't know what I'll be reading this week through this weekend but here is what I have borrowed due anywhere between 7/19-7/25:
Unromance by Erin Connor youthjuice by E.K. Sathue Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng by Kylie Lee Baker The Motion of Light in Water Sex and Science Fiction Writing in the East Village by Samuel R. Delany Broken Places & Outer Spaces Finding Creativity in the Unexpected by Nnedi Okorafor The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh Love from A to Z (A Coming-of-Age Romance) by S.K. Ali Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark Lore of the Wilds (Lore of the Wilds, #1) by Analeigh Sbrana The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Aw, I love hearing the updates about adorable sounding little Bastien. Teeth coming in aren't fun but hopefully that resolves soon and he sounds like he will be a determined and independant little guy. I also hope you had fun with your co-workers, social time matters too :)

As for your TBR list, looks good! I have read The Last One at the Wedding and despite some of the reviews/ratings being lower, I LOVED this book. I think a lot of people thought it would be more thriller than it was, but I was fascinated by the psychological uniqueness of that type of relationship and situation and 5 starred it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Hope you get a bit of reading done this time.

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 566 comments Fun update! Food has always been a tricky thing with mine (at least one of them is on the spectrum and has an extremely limited selection of flavours and textures that can be tolerated) but I did love experiencing them discover favourites. My eldest developed a love for green pesto early on. Would hardly eat anything, but coat it in pesto genovaise and it was suddenly delicious. lol And my youngest would get really intense shark/laser eyes if you held up a strawberry. That was one food item that would never get dropped on the floor.

Speaking of eating... (sort of), I have Bat Eater on my kindle and keep debating if I want to read it sooner or save it for spooky season. Ring Shout is on my radar too.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Updated TBR, naturally:
Physical Novels
Finish Unromance by Erin Connor
The Woman in Cabin 10 (Lo Blacklock, #1) by Ruth Ware (library/re-read) The Woman in Suite 11 (Lo Blacklock, #2) by Ruth Ware
Physical Graphic Novels (library)
Halfway There A Graphic Memoir of Self-Discovery by Christine Mari Spent A Comic Novel by Alison Bechdel
Audio
Broken Places & Outer Spaces Finding Creativity in the Unexpected by Nnedi Okorafor The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak Kill for Me, Kill for You by Steve Cavanagh Love from A to Z (A Coming-of-Age Romance) by S.K. Ali Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark Lore of the Wilds (Lore of the Wilds, #1) by Analeigh Sbrana
E-Books
Finish The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen
ARC Fuck Cancer My Story-Blowups with Bryan Adams, Breakouts in Production, and Battles with Cancer by Jonathan Schwartz
The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir

I wanted to re-read The Woman Cabin 10 before I read The Woman in Suite 11 so we headed to the library yesterday and I picked up a couple graphic novels too.

Haven't planned anything special for food, won't be home most of tomorrow for my get-together with my former coworkers. We're making sausage and veg skewers with rice tonight so that will probably also be supper tomorrow.

Bastien's bedtime is 8pm so I will be starting with an e-book because I rock him to sleep. I won't finish all 3 of my current reads in the next 5 hours but hoping to at least finish Bat Eater (a little over an hour left and listening right now) and maybe Unromance (about 150 pgs left). So I'll hold the second half of The Locked Ward for starting time.

Bastien is napping right now but he'll probably wake soon, it's been 2 hours. He had me up at 6:30am so I will not be staying up and reading tonight. We're leaving at 9am tomorrow so here's hoping he lets me sleep till 7:30am! 🤞

Once he wakes up from his nap we're headed to the post office to drop of a PangoBooks order so I don't have to fit it into our schedule tomorrow.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Opening Event Survey
1. How many Dewey's Readathons have you participated in?
A lot. Every one since 2017 has been recorded on this thread. I think I participated twice before making the thread. I don't remember what year the Reverse started.
2a. If this is not your first Dewey's Readathon, what are your favorite things from past Dewey's readathons? Are you trying anything new or different this time?
Setting aside mindful time to read. I try to do it all the time but specifically making plans to just read is a favorite. And of course, the social aspect. I've made a lot of friends through Dewey's! Nothing new this time except that I have actual plans tomorrow lol.
2b. What are your goals, and what are you looking forward to during this Readathon?
Just to read and have fun.
3. What are you looking forward to eating and drinking during this Readathon?
Whatever my former coworker cooks up lol because if I don't have to cook it, I love it! I do have some SmartSweets as well.
4. Are you sticking to our official Readathon times or adjusting for your schedule/preferences/etc.?
I usually always keep time for the original 24 hours. I also continue reading after the end but I don't track that.
5. Where are you reading from today?
New Hampshire, USA

message 1325: by Elyse (last edited Jul 19, 2025 06:02AM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments A quick hello before we leave till this afternoon! I listened to all of Broken Places & Outer Spaces Finding Creativity in the Unexpected by Nnedi Okorafor last night and read to 56% of The Locked Ward by Sarah Pekkanen (from 47%) and read to page 225 of Unromance by Erin Connor (from 184). Stayed up till 11pm then couldn't fall asleep but I'm not one to get back up once I'm in bed and my Kindle was charging downstairs and I didn't want to use my phone. Bastien woke at 4:20am and then I couldn't fall BACK asleep argh. Woke at 7:50am, got up, showered, Rick also woke up, then Bastien woke as I was getting out the shower, perfect timing! Was nice that he didn't wake at 6:30am again. Getting some coffee in me and pancakes in him. I'll be listening to The Last One at the Wedding by Jason Rekulak on the 45-minute drives.

Half-Point Progress Report
1. How is your Readathon going? Have you finished 12 hours of reading so far?
Could be better but I love sleep too much lol. I have not read for 12 hours.
2. Have you eaten real food yet in the past 12 hours? How much water have you drunk so far in the past 12 hours? (Maybe drink some water now just on principle...)
No water yet but coffee. Water comes next. lol. Last night I did have some Cinnamon Popcorners and a Mike's Hard Strawberry Lemonade after 8pm.
3. Are you doing a Bingo board or other specific challenge during this Readathon? How is that going so far?
Yes and no. I glanced at it and have been mentally keeping track and also doing photos on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/winesaboutb...
4. Have you finished any books so far in this half of the Readathon?
I listened to all of Broken Places & Outer Spaces: Finding Creativity in the Unexpected last night.
5. Are you on track to finish what you want to this weekend? What are your plans for the next 12 hours?
Leaving soon till this afternoon and will only have two 45-minute blocks of audio listening on the drives. Will definitely settle in when I get home and hoping to finish The Locked Ward and Unromance.

Better late then never! lol. Don't be fooled by the almost 9 hours of sleep. Timer started at 11pm but I was still awake at midnight. Bastien woke at 4:20am and then I couldn't fall back asleep for awhile after comforting him. I *wish* it was actually 9 hours of sleep! 😂 But all told, with the sleep and breaks because I was out for part of the day, over 9 hours of reading is pretty good! And now I have 50+ GR notifications to go through lol. Social media was at the bottom of my readathon list.

Closing Survey
1. How did your Readathon go overall?
Not as much reading as I hoped but it was a very good night and day in general so I can't complain.
2. Are you continuing to read for the rest of the weekend?
Always. And I finished all 3 books I had either started before or during the readathon.
3. How many books have you read in this Readathon? How many have you finished? Which was your favorite?
I read 1 from start to finish. I started 1. I continued 2. I loved Broken Places & Outer Spaces: Finding Creativity in the Unexpected.
4. Do you plan to do other reading events or readathons between now and October 18th (our next Readathon)?
High Summer Readathon and FrightFall at Seasons of Reading blog in August. And RIP (Readers Imbibing Peril).
5. Have you added any tempting books to your TBR during this Readathon?
I didn't really "shop" around other people's reading so no!
