Sounds like a great day, but can imagine how tired you must be.
I’ll be getting some hours of sleep myself as well!

Cathy (cathepsut) | 577 comments I can‘t do audio at 2x speed. I miss to much. I tend to listen at 1.2x to 1.5x speed. I only go faster if the narrator is very slow or I don‘t like the book and want to get done with it quickly.

Cathy it was very cute and got a bit spicy at the end. Very cozy autumnal romance! I plan on reading the second, The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore, in November and the third, The Christmas Tree Farm, in December!

I enjoyed it. It was my second of his. This one was creepier than the first one I read, The Ascent, but I liked The Ascent better.

I haven't read The Ascent yet but plan to. I want to read December Park next, my friend really loved that one.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Hello and happy springtime! Here's the Bastien update:
He just turned 15 months old and talks SO. MUCH. He knows almost 100 words and is such a parrot. He copies everything I say, it's gonna get me in trouble. lol. He sleeps really well, mostly since he turned 1. Maybe once a week now he wakes in the middle of the night but otherwise he sleeps 8:30pm-9amish, sometimes as late as 10am and it doesn't disrupt his nap or night sleep. Naps aren't really scheduled and that works for us. We're still breastfeeding, I plan on going till he's 2, the recommended age to stop. He continues to love food except he refused broccoli and brussels sprouts the other day lol. Can you blame him? We're in the thick of learning to walk! He's been getting more confident each day and did a lot of short bursts of walking last weekend. He needs something in his hands to forget that he's walking lol. And finally, this boy LOVES being outside. It's one of his favorite words right now and he says it first thing in the morning and last at night. lol. Dada takes him outside after work for an hour and he still doesn't want to come back in! And he knows the difference between going outside to take the dog for a walk (where he's in his stroller) and going outside to play. We're having so much fun with him and he's learning and growing so much every day!

As for the readathon which is *gasp* mere days away, I'm not prepared. I just read my 100th book of the year so I'm definitely reading but preparedness is not there. Whatever I'm reading will be my TBR and whatever is in the house will be food. Hopefully I can sneak out again for some quiet reading.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Aw, Bastien sounds so very adorable and at such a cute stage. Hope his walking improves - it usually does fast, they pick it up :) Maybe he'll give broccoli and brussels sprouts another chance one day :D

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Ok I have a TBR. I went by the library on Wednesday and picked out a ton of graphic novels.
The Fox Maidens by Robin Ha Tegan and Sara Crush (Tegan and Sara, #2) by Tegan Quin Displacement by Kiku Hughes Lunar New Year Love Story by Gene Luen Yang Blankets by Craig Thompson Fun Home A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel Nimona by N.D. Stevenson (re-read)
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (at least 48 pgs) The Opal Deception (Artemis Fowl, #4) by Eoin Colfer Last Chance to Save the World (Chaotic Orbits, #3) by Beth Revis
Audio: The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins (I may end up just listening this today)

A Little Life is a Storygraph readalong with someone I follow on Instagram and my goal was to read 24 pgs a day to finish by the 30th. I might just finish it during the readathon though and cheer myself up with graphic novels after. lol

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Looks like a good mix with a variety of genres

message 1277: by Kate (new)

Kate | 646 comments Its nice to have graphic novels on standby. I'm going to the library first thing tomorrow (my readathon starts at 1pm) to get some graphic novels.
Enjoy the readathon (or the bits you get to do!)

Thanks for the family update!

Like you, I decided to join in the RaT last minute so I'm reading what I have and eating whatever food is here--I have plenty of choices in both categories so it will be fine--OR NOT!!!🤣

I do usually try to have some GN handy for the RaT as a nice break from regular books but decided since I don't have them this time, I will read my grandsons picture books/chapter books or listen to some cheesy fun short stories🤷‍♀

Have fun and enjoy your reading!

message 1279: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I went to my local indie today and bought some books! And some snacks at the grocery store. lol. I do plan on starting my readathon at a nearby café while hopefully the boys are still sleeping. Start time is 8am and I plan on getting up at 7am, showering, getting the dog settled, and heading out. Bastien did wake up at 6am today (and went back to sleep till 8am after nursing) so hopefully he doesn't do that tomorrow morning lol.
So I've added to my TBR:
Huda F Are You? A Graphic Novel by Huda Fahmy Huda F Cares? by Huda Fahmy Huda F Wants to Know? A Graphic Novel by Huda Fahmy (I only had the second from the library and they didn't have the other 2 so I just bought all 3 at the bookstore) On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden The Deep Dark by Molly Knox Ostertag Where Sleeping Girls Lie by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé (not really for the readathon but I wanted it)
I got a little more than halfway through The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins and have read my allotted 24 pgs of A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara . I'm also a little over halfway through Beneath the Stars (Sugarlake, 1) by Emily McIntire and I'm going to keep reading it tonight. I may or may not touch it during the readathon, really depends on how far I get tonight, if I can finish it quickly.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Starting at the cafe sounds lovely. I also am going to attempt getting up 7ish as it's 8 am start here as well. Hoping the little one wakes up at the right time and not extra early, but I'm sure it would not really bother you either way :) Hope you enjoy all the reading! I read Girl on a Train but nothing else from Paula Hawkins

Jennifer | 451 comments Happy Readathon Elyse! You have a nice mix of books on your TBR.

message 1291: by Elyse (last edited Apr 26, 2025 07:15AM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I'm back from the café. It was a lovely time, I was there a little over an hour. I had a chai latte and an egg and cheese on ciabatta. It started getting busy so it was loud and it was also chilly in there! Saw another mom there that goes to one of the play groups we go to and that made me miss Bastien. He was all Mama when I got home and Rick said he kept saying Mama looking for me. 😊 I've never not been home when he's woken up before!
I started with A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara and have been fairly traumatized by the end of The Happy Years chapters. 😭 Started listening to The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins on the way home and still listening to it now while I check in on socials. 58% through this morning.

message 1292: by Elyse (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Checking back in. Snacked on some chips and French Onion dip with water. Kind of want a Pepsi now but I only allow myself one in a day and I think I'll want it with pizza later so maybe some apple juice and more water. Going to open the veg tray, may skip the full lunch and just snack instead. We're grazers here. lol.
I started reading Last Chance to Save the World (Chaotic Orbits, #3) by Beth Revis during the Hour 4 sprint and I plan on picking it back up after updating this! Bastien was fighting his nap SO HARD so I took him for a drive (99% of the time it works) and continued listening to The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins which I'm still listening to. I'm actually almost done so I'll finish it before continuing Last Chance. Hope everyone is doing well and getting some reading in! It's still raining and I'm very cozy.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments I'm drinking a little coke as well. French onion dip sounds good! Wish it was raining here but about to fill up the porch mini pool after a small reading break I think

How's the Paula Hawkins book?

message 1295: by Ann A (new)

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Sounds like you and sweet Bastien are have a fun day, Elyse! I've been thinking I need to read A Little Life, but am afraid of becoming traumatized. I may wait to see your final opinion. Enjoy the rest of the 'thon!

I finished it and it was not great lol.

message 1297: by Elyse (last edited Apr 26, 2025 12:21PM) (new)

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I've finished The Blue Hour by Paula Hawkins and read all of Last Chance to Save the World (Chaotic Orbits, #3) by Beth Revis !
I was going to start Tegan and Sara Crush (Tegan and Sara, #2) by Tegan Quin but I found out it is the second in the series so luckily I was able to borrow the audio of Junior High (Tegan and Sara, #1) by Tegan Quin on Hoopla! So I'm listening to that and then I will read Crush. It's kind of fun to listen to graphic novels because they're usually full cast and sound effects. And they're short lol.

It's been dark out all day so time is kind of weird today! It feels later than it is! I ate some of the veg tray and a couple sea salt milk chocolate caramels. More water.

message 1298: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 451 comments You're making great progress Elyse. I never thought to listen to a graphic novel, but the full cast might be interesting.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments I need to do some more water myself.

Sea salt milk chocolate caramels sounds great, better than the weird dove dark chocolate things Walmart subbed my order for >:(
