Susan | 986 comments Sounds like you’re having a good Readathon! Or should I say King-athon? The Green Mile is such a great story — I read it when Stephen King was issuing it one installment at a time like an old time serial novel, but I think I’d rather have the whole book to read at once. Read on!

Luckily I didn't, I was just very cozy this afternoon. And I didn't even have tea or hot apple cider! Would've been the ultimate cozy!

Thanks Susy! It's so hard to balance reading and being social especially because a lot of us have been doing Dewey's for so long now we're interested in what each other is doing! I try to just check my notifications when I'm doing a check-in (and pop in for the sprint top of hour and bottom of hour) and Instagram is pretty sporadic.

I'm so glad I made it past the serialization. 🤣 I had a couple of the chapbooks but not all of them and then I found a complete bindup at a library sale a few years ago. I do like what King said about serializing though, you can't cheat and skip to the end! I am enjoying The Green Mile!

Thanks Erin! Truly. And my physical editions are all different sizes and fonts so some are easier read than others. Enjoying switching it up with the graphic novels though. Plus they're lighter than even these large paperback tomes! lol

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Check-In #3 - Hours 9-12 (4pm-8pm):
Check-In Time: 8:15pm
Breaks: 0
Food/Drink: Pepsi, barbecue chicken pizza
Pages Read: 205

Comments:
Hour 12 Reading Sprint: The Green Mile by Stephen King pg 47-95
I didn't touch Wizard and Glass during this block. I read Sleeping Beauties Vol 1 and started Vol 2 but went back to The Green Mile for the sprint. I'm really enjoying it. I'll be going back to Sleeping Beauties Vol 2 to finish it up. *Always* surprised by how quickly the first half goes by!!

Half-Point Progress Report
1) How many books have you been reading? Have you finished any? Are you on track with respect to your readathon goals so far?
I've finished 2. I've started 3. No goals so yes, on track! lol
2) Have you eaten real food today? (Not just junk food, ACTUAL HEALTHY FOOD) What was your favorite food or beverage so far?
I've eaten a solid breakfast, lunch, and supper with snacks. That Pepsi tasted real good.
3) Have you been participating in any of the activities on our social media (sprints, photo challenges, discussion questions, BINGO, etc.)
Just the sprints.
4) Are you growing sleepy? Do you plan to nap, or stop early, or are you extending the readathon hours to include sleep?
I'm not tired yet but by midnight I will be. I'll try staying up as late as I can but I'm not planning on just napping. When I sleep, it's going to be for 8+ hours. lol. I usually wake back up for the final hour but I probably won't this time.
5) Have you been outside yet today? Have you had much exercise (besides the heavy lifting required to hold your book)?
Only twice to bring the dog out. There will be one more time for that. It's been a chilly and rainy day so not conducive to spending time outside, especially reading outside. I'm thinking of walking on my treadmill for a little bit when I get tired.
6) How is your readathon going, overall?
It's going well! My husband left for the afternoon so it was just me, the dog, and the 2 cats (all the girls) and it was nice and quiet. He's back and has friends over so definitely no longer quiet but they're in the basement (re: man cave) and I'm not!

I'm having a good time and I've only stuck to King books. I thought I would start the Sandman graphic novels but I most-likely won't. Yes, sleep is very important right now! Geez, I feel bigger every day now!! lol

Comments:
Hour 16 Reading Sprint: Wizard and Glass (The Dark Tower, #4) by Stephen King pg 92-134
Wizard and Glass is slow-going. I have a big paperback but it's still 672 pgs and the font is not large! Even The Green Mile paperback is big with small font and 465 pgs. Throwing in a graphic novel each block helps my page count. And my eyes! lol. Heading to read in bed now which means I won't last much longer but I will hop on the treadmill for a half hour first.

I didn't walk on the treadmill. My bed beckoned and I obeyed. I read The Green Mile until 1:30am and then went to bed till 9:45am. Got my 8 hours of sleep since I didn't get up to finish out the readathon so I'm happy. lol

Comments:
Overall, with 2 King chunksters, I'm happy with my readathon stats! I didn't end up listening to anything! I didn't take any breaks until sleep. I did 5 of the 7 sprints. I joined a handful of discussions. I posted a handful of photos throughout the readathon on Instagram (http://www.instagram.com/winesaboutbooks). I'm really enjoying The Green Mile and Wizard and Glass is not unbearable. lol. I'll be starting a buddy read of Holly today as well.

Closing Survey
1) How many books did you read during this readathon? Did you have any favorites?
I read from 5 books. I'm enjoying The Green Mile!
2) How many books did you finish?
I finished 3 books.
3) Did you accomplish your goals for this readathon?
I didn't make any goals this time. The only goal was to read and I did!
4) How did your snacks and meals work out? Are there things you would change about the food and beverages side of your readathon for next time?
Very good! Equal parts meals and snacks, healthy and junk. I was never hungry. lol. And I stayed hydrated.
5) Did you enjoy this readathon? What was the most successful part of your readathon? What would you change for next time?
I always enjoy the readathons! And it's always successful because the only goal is to read! The actual next time I will have a 4-month-old so a LOT will be changing. 🤣
6) Will you be continuing your readathon reading past the end of our official readathon?
Not necessarily continuing the readathon but I am *always* reading and that won't change today. lol

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1444 comments Sounds like you did great, was super busy with it, and had a successful readathon!
I agree it's hard to balance keeping yourself in a book and updating social media. I have that issue sporadically

I love King but I'm not reading them during a readathon lol
Will probably have to postpone reading the green mile till next month (again, why do I plan so many reads??)

Leni Iversen (leniverse) | 566 comments You might actually get a lot of reading done with a four month old, Elyse. When I had infants I spent most of my time in a comfy chair with a huge cushion on my lap, supporting the baby's head with one hand and turning the pages of my book with the other. The next one though, he'll be 10 months, and then you'll be lucky if you get to sit still for more than two minutes at the time. lol

I'm reading Warrior Girl Unearthed by Angeline Boulley Together We Rot by Skyla Arndt The Christmas Chronicles by Nigel Slater . My goal by midnight tomorrow night is to finish these and read What Moves the Dead (Sworn Soldier, #1) by T. Kingfisher .
My first read of 2024 will be The Fury by Alex Michaelides . I want to get it read and reviewed before I give birth. I'm due on Jan 9 and the book publishes on Jan 16!

I'm more than 75% through the 3 books I'm currently reading and What Moves is less than 200 pages so I'm pretty confident. 😊 As long as I don't turn the TV on. lol. I know my husband wants to watch Squid Game: The Challenge tomorrow. Thank you! I'm glad the holidays are over. We're ready and now it's up to him! lol

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments I had my baby boy, Bastien Reece, on 1/18 after almost 2 days of labor, 2 epidurals, a C-section, a seizure, and 4 days in the hospital. He spent the first 18 hours of his life with his dad while I was intubated in the ICU. We went home on 1/21 and we are tired. Bastien loves cuddling and does not like to be put down so that whole "sleep when the baby sleeps" is very difficult to do so far. lol. But we're in pure heaven.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Woohoo it's been a short 11 weeks since Bastien was born! Time is flying already, I can't believe it. I haven't used my computer or laptop since he was born. I've read one physical book but I've read a good amount of ebooks and audiobooks! I have hundreds of Goodreads notifications. lol. I am not prepared for Dewey's and that makes me sad. Also, it's a couple weeks earlier than it usually is! But life is good. We'll see if I pop in on Saturday but if not, good luck and have fun everyone!
