haha right? Sometimes I finish them, sometimes I read them during the 'thon, and sometimes I even put them on hold until Monday!

I'm really struggling with it! And I read the first couple during a couple of previous Dewey's but this one is just not doing it for me!

Ann A (readerann) | 867 comments Good luck on finishing your current books pre-readathon! I gave up on that goal this time, but I'm setting those books aside and starting fresh tomorrow.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Stupid me forgot to UNset my alarm for this morning (it's a Mon-Fri work alarm) so it went off at 5:20am per usual. But I ended up falling back asleep and getting out of bed at 8am after cuddling with the dog and one of the cats for a bit.

I finished my list of things I wanted to accomplish today:
✔ Vacuum (aka run all of the robots)
✔ Clean toilets & wash bath mats
✔ Grocery shopping
✔ Pick up Dunkin Donuts iced mocha coffee sans cream, sugar, and ice for tomorrow morning so I don't have to leave the house
✔ Make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (who needs raisins?!)
✔ Make crudités
✔ Clean up kitchen (I'm a big fan of leaving a mess until the weekend. lol)
✔ Pull out physical TBR books

Now I just have to finish reading these pesky books! lol.

Comments: Blazed through The Wedding Date, just finished it, and loved it! Immediately moving on to The Proposal! Have not been as social as I have been in the past but I really just want to read this time. Catch my Hour 6 discussion in 25 minutes! :)

Abbey (abbeyhauser) | 194 comments You are cruising and have great food options! I have The Proposal on my list of books I own, but yet to be read. One day I'll get to it. I hope you like it!!

I've been helping out at a virtual expo event today, so my first update may come in a few hours, but I was able to adjust a bit and get some reading in beforehand. Hopefully one of my later sessions requires less from me so I can post my first update/calculate my totals so far. And am looking forward to cruising on reading once this event ends at 4pm cst and being social later in the day as my motivation wanes to swap to an audiobook.

Happy reading!

Comments: I switched to audio and listened to some of Illuminae while I showered and went to my local bookstore for Independent Bookstore Day! I had ordered 4 books online and went to pick them up. One of them being Illuminae. lol. Because I was having a hard time getting into the audiobook. I wanted to read along and listen until I could get into it. Annnd then I started back up with The Proposal when I got home!

Comments: Well, the alligator po'boy was interesting! But in a good way. Spicy mustard and pepper jelly definitely helped things be tasty. lol. Almost done reading The Proposal and then I think I'll move to some graphic novels for a bit. It's nighttime which is the bane of my readathons. lol

Illuminae is a lot to take in, no matter how you do it. I don't think e-book would work though because there's so much special imaging and such in the physical book that won't translate electronically. I do like having both the audio and the physical but I'm finding myself reaching for the physical more than audio so I'd recommend physical. Even though a lot of people rave about the audiobook! lol.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) | 2454 comments Mid-Event Survey
1) What are you reading right now? Manfried the Man
2) How many books have you read so far? 2 and almost 2 hours of another
3) What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? More graphic novels
4) Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? Went to my local bookstore for Independent Bookstore Day! Listened to my audiobook!
5) What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? Always and forever, how time flies.

I definitely did that series both ways too, and a re-listen only over the early pandemic days when I only felt like re-reading favorites. If you read the books on the Kindle app on a tablet, the format translated pretty well. I usually read on my Paperwhite for digital books, but used my tablet for that book for that reason specifically and didn't feel like I lost a lot. I'm not usually super into Sci-Fi/Fantasy but that series and their Aurora Cycle (which reads more in the traditional book format with a few extra features) kept my interest.

Oh that's good! Some books that I know have artwork or stylistic approaches in the physical books are much plainer electronically which is so disappointing. Glad to hear the Illuminae trilogy isn't the case!

Mine is always the opposite. Probably because I am fighting sleep the first 1/3 of the readathon without fail (it is why I prefer the reverse readathons). Now I am in my stride, and time is flying!

The Wedding Date (The Wedding Date, #1) by Jasmine Guillory The Proposal (The Wedding Date, #2) by Jasmine Guillory Manfried the Man by Caitlin Major Manfried Saves the Day by Caitlin Major Heartstopper Volume One (Heartstopper, #1) by Alice Oseman
Comments: Welp, I got almost a full night's sleep. lol. I fell asleep at 1am and woke up just after readathon end. I did not set an alarm like I usually do to finish out the readathon. But I enjoyed my sleep so that's all that matters. lol. I did finish the novel I was reading and then a couple of comics/graphic novels. I'm surprised I only listened to less than 2 hours of audio!

Closing Survey
1) How would you assess your reading overall? 2 novels is great!
2) Did you have a strategy, and if so, did you stick to it? Didn't really have one.
3) What was your favorite snack? Well, I didn't really break into the GOOD snacks. lol. So I guess cheese, pepperoni, and crackers.
4) Wanna volunteer for our next event? Not for the reverse because I won't be participating but maybe for October.
