@Anni...that's...I'm touched. Sure. Anytime you wanna read it...I'll make time and be available ok? A request - can you keep it to the second half of the year? I think I have all I can be dealing with until April. Anytime after April is good for me but like I said, WHENEVAAAR you say...even if its Jan 1. (view spoiler)

I was wishing on someone to re-read B.E. with and when Samir was debating on it and everyone was all meh...I was actually sad that nobody will ever want to read these books with me. There was this thread called "what's your Xmas wishlist" somewhere here. I didn't say anything on it bcuz it seemed such a stupid wish and everybody would laugh at me...but you made me very happy...I xpose it is not very sophisticated to admit this?
But now you're here + our pace is similar and so it will be perfect.
So thanks :-) you! And I'm very lucky...all my wishes come trooooooo...

Nb they aren't perfect books (like everyone says) but they...for me...everyone has a chance at redemption, Annika...no matter how sullied they are.
That's the premise of this series, see?
So for me...it kinda pushed all the buttons I didn't know were there. I suppose I coulda just read Dante or Milton?

@Beste...deffo!
But only if you also join us on the road trip (view spoiler)

@R...thanks + happy new year. Also you're rather weird (and kinda creepy? if you dont mind me sayin') but this I will tell you all about in great detail ;-) ok...when I can find the willpower to be irritated and amgry but now I'm in a very good mood...I just finished Maaaaalice.
I need @Sha. Or Mayim or Ahdam. Where are the only ones who will truly understand the Agony and the Ecstasy...
+ why do you keep calling me Saara?? I suppose its on;y fair...seeing as I call you all sorts of things...

Sha daaaaaahlin'...didja see...I'm stepping on air and strewing roses from my hat daaaaahlin'...

Win win then!

Sorry for my slow replies, I'm on my phone, so I open a new tab for every notification I need to look at, work my way through them, then refresh and start again haha.

Prolly better just to stick to one place, no?
The last message I left you ( and it was a doubt I wanted to clear with you anyway) was on my ABC challenge so...from now I will just stay there...

message 259: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Now that I've shared teh old books, maybe you'll have more motivation to share your "fixed" books? I am a master manipulator, I know))
Also, are you gonna put in the titles in your unfinished series challenge? I'm just curious about the numbers, I myself have shelves for keeping track.

message 260: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments You're probably the furthest thing to a master manipulator there is, Andy. You give so much before you even ask anything. I mean sure sometimes you say things that go horribly wrong and over here...I read and I'm all *wincing* but you're really loads and heaps and spades nice when you're not on the downswing. It's just...I wish everyone sees this. For me, its like there are two Andys...I dunno d'yu get what I mean? I'd been meaning to find and talk to you all last fortnight...looked for ya coupla times and then you weren't there + then I kept putting it off...you would literally log on and start commenting on stuff an hour after I logged out or somethin' 😂😂

What does "fixed" books mean? Do you mean my scheduled buddy reads? Done...they're updated thru to June. Check Posts 1-5 on this thred...but saving you the trouble its literally just Malazan boTF + Riyria + Mark Lawrence + Marillier. Couple Sandersons. I'm very new to the genre and I'm just reading the so-called "milestone" books before I go deep into subgenres and stuff.

Unfinished series is updated too...I don't have so many open fantasy series and since that's the point of the challenge...mwha! I'm winning...
Altho' *serious face* if you want interesting lists you should look at literally every other challenge in that folder. Over here I'm just gormless flamboyance, Andy. Very little substance. Can't you see I'm literally all show + nothing to show for...please believe me.
+ very shallow. Very very deep down 😜 now who was it who said that?
I'm not kidding or being fakely modest. God help me, if you want lists of books to read/suggestions for good series to start...go look at other people's challenges ok. Mine's crap. And I really mean it.
My A-Z is cool tho' I worked hard for + I like it very much. I have another sudden + spiffin' idea for my personal but actually it was "Anni inspired"....

The books I own for overflowing bookshelves are mostly nonfiction books on history, poetry, and philosophy and science-y stuff...specifically stuff on genetics and evolution...if fiction, then historical fiction. Again no much fantasy :-( I'm very new here. Some of the fluffier books I own...I look at them now and I'm all "wtf were you thinking when you bought this?"
*yerk face* but I'm adamant and will try at least fifty pages before I donate them or try to re-sell in some cases.
My GR shelves are sh!t. I stopped using them in 2015, I think. I don't even scan books in anymore... Its just auto....whatever the machine(?)...I mean...the website does.

message 261: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments By fixed i mean... was it you who talked about ripping books up and doing something cool with them and putting them back together? That's what I meant.
Well, we're both here now, lol.
I was sort of joking about being a manipulator, BUT giving stuff first is actually a manipulation tactic. It can be, because society tends to run on quid pro quo. If someone gives a person something, then they'll feel guilty and try to return the favor. This is tendencies, not certainties, though.

message 262: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Well..now that you explained it all...quid pro quo...
😝😜
And (for once) I wasn't joking...I really meant everything I said...
Gtg idiffer...I have loadsa ppl coming over tomorrow YIKE! today and I gotta prep...

idiffer | 765 comments I want to see your series because you're the only only one I know and care enough about to be interested. + Beste.
Why are you wincing?
"I wish everyone sees this." (c)
Mmm, it's like they're talking behind my back and saying I'm not nice.
And yeah, of course there's two andys, because I adopted a persona specially for goodreads that's very different to how I normally talk. But half the time I'm being my real self, so hence two andys.
This isn't the first time you down-played your interestingness. I'd say don't worry about it, let others be the judge of that.

You don't have to be thankful, I really want to read the book either way :) A friend of mine made me a book box for Prince of Thornes (the book with notes and small presents that fits to the story labled with the page number I am allowed to open them) and I am very, very curious what she choose for the presents. I thought about reading the book in March, because I have only 2 books sheduled right now and I don't want my friend to wait too long for my reactions... Hmmm, maybe we can talk about it later? When it is near the date and we all know how booked we are? I am glad you also will join us Siobhan, but let me tell you, Zaara and me will do this reeeeal slow :D

I am super happy for you, that you finally finished Malice!!! I am still struggeling with the Well of Ascension. It's not bad but I couldn't find the time to read right now :(

I am super excited I inspired you!!! But for what? :D You can't leave me hanging, I want to knoooow!

@Hailee/Zaara: I think most groups are pretty open to people Buddy Reading whatever they want... groups that only do 1-2 books per month... we do 15-25 tho and schedule a year out... so we're already quite full of Buddy Read folders without starting and Off-Genre folder...

Just my 2c...

Zaara | 4273 comments @Anni...you are going to introduce me to this friend of yours who makes Broken Empire gift boxes with all the notes and gifts soon, yes? And I will prep myself to dazzle!
Ha, you are lucky. They are such beautiful books...for me they were initially a pure cover buy xcuz I'm a sucker for that particular cover trope...shadowy face hidden under a black cloak, but all the Thorns books have such beautiful covers and if you touch the books some of the bits are raised like...uhhh whats the opposite of embossing?
All those stark blacks, reds and greys.
Soooooo I would be jealous but I'm actually happy for you. Nobody deserves awesome friends and cool gifts more than the originator of *klingendeklingen*
+ daaaaaaaaaahlin' like I said, anytime for you daaaahlin'. March if you wish, (view spoiler) Heck I'll start NOW if you want since I'm being all timorous about actually cracking open Malalalalala-zaaaaaaan *rowf*
The Anni Project is still in idea stage. It's more an incentive for me to read faster thru my creepy TBR based on your travelingbookproject mentions and was it you I was talking about art history with? I seem to remember every conversation as having been with @Anni. Last time I made this mistake was the Harry Potter thing...which was actually Charlie, asiobhan and Martin Apergis.

@Andy and @Jess and @Shivaaaan (cuz #always) and @Beste...for y'all....
https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...

Andy and Jess the altered copy of The Christmas Carol which as you can see I have already torn a bit like a clumsy git :-( is on the bottom left. The front is actually prettier but I soooo wanted to show you that holly garland thingy which took me ages...
As you can see it is an idiotic and amateur attempt. Serious scrapbookers and origami fiends should pls take pity and be forgiving.

@Beste...my reading log (antique keys) which you asked abt and the Rumi are for yoooooo....daaaaaahlin'. I read some Rumi each night. Every damn night, Beste, prolly the only thing that never leaves my side no matter where I am.

@Siobhan...hunny...the way you say it...reminds me of Pooh Bear's Jar...you get both my January Buddy Reads which are basically the Dark Goddess (Malazan) and American Gods...xcuz Blood Song is an ebook and I'm sooooo not gonna buy the physical.

I only have 2 books to photograph this month, unless I shamefully add Hero of Ages again after not getting round to it in December :'( haha. Rest of my buddy reads are kindle.

message 276: by Anni (new)

Anni | 5066 comments If you don't mind, I will write Prince of Thornes in my Tracker for March without an exact date, we could decide when to start later, or do you prefer to set a date? I don't think I will shedule any other read for march anyway. And yes, I am glad to slow down for this read, well to be honest I don't really need to slow down because I am very slow already :/
I can share some pictures of my box while reading, so you could at least see what's in there ;)
I hope March will work for Siobhan too? But she reads much faster so it will be enough when she join in in April... she will still beat us Zaara, I am sure!

I'm online in the app so I can't check your text and I vet I miss something because it's rather long 😂

I've never read more in a week, in my life...pretty stoked abt that...
How're you? What reading plans for the year? Malazan has swallowed 2018 for me. Since I only read abt a book a week, ten outta 50 will be Malazan + lots more fantasy cuz of the tourney.

I'm doing fine. Started work again after a much needed two week break and I'm happy to report that only after 2 days back I'm ready to go on holiday again :-).
My bookish resolutions aren't that elaborate for this year other than to read more on a whim aka according to my mood and not commit to any challenges with deadlines or do any more buddy reads . Last year that really tripped me up good a couple of times because there's up sides and down sides to all of those but for me the bad outweighed the good because it affected my enjoyment. So, I want to approach my reading a little more organically again and keeping the routine of reading every single day going. I'll also make a conscious effort to read more from my library rather than buy new releases and other shiny new books. As satisfying as it is to buy new books, I realized that I really need to make time to read the ones already on my shelves or that damn TBR pile will never be conquered..
But there are a few more concrete plans, like reading a few new Fantasy series (Daniel Abraham, David Hair, N.K. Jemisin, Scott Lynch, Sanderson) as well as continuing a few- it's probably more than I'll have time for because of the other genres I read in as well.
I commend you at taking Malazan on my friend. I tried it but miserably failed - the language/writing style was just not for me. (which is elegant speak for it drove me nuts). As soon as I've finished The Silent Companions (which is really good btw) I'll start the Moontide Quartet (literally 5 pages in haha) and I'm SO hoping it's a good series because I already ordered book 2 and 3... I evidently I took Scott's word for it haha.

Dani | 577 comments Have to get back to work now so I'll PM you later tonight. So keep your eye out for that and don't delete me!

message 292: by Zaara (new)

Zaara | 4273 comments Excellent plans @Dan...there are 2 TTT (top 3 thursday) threds...you should jezzt...split your post #293 in half bcuz you have beautiful readymade replies already for both those prompts.
Yeah Dark Goddess Malazan is like the sea, once you push thru the breakers near the coast you get into the calmer (but much deeper) waters beyond...bloody series makes me #lyrical but I swear terrible *yerk* stuff happens everytime I talk about it so I now actively avoid talking abt the Goddess cuz I don't wanna get in trouble agn + you know that I hv the worst luck Dan, is like I'm a lightning rod.
Though I'm sorry you dislike it and hope you will someday give the series a second thought, if not another chance. Ok end of convincing aaaaaand *Zzzzzzzzzzzzzt* #fried

The other series on your list are cool picks too...Sanderson we are doing together + I will be doing MoonTide...picked up the last three books on the cheap at a Bookbin Sale for like $10 the lot but, as is #typical of such sales, I need to get Mage's Blood to round out the set. I daresay I shall before the BR rolls arnd in the latter half of the year. It's a great series. Blood and guts as much as ASOIAF + diversity, one hears.

Daniel Abraham yeah...I've been wanting to get started on him a while and I thought LPQ or Expanse would both be good starter points but I dropped Expanse at the tail end of last year cuz of the whole "Mortil Tormund" chain of events and I spook easy Dan, I'm very skittish on committing to a long series and I found out that OPEN ONLY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ LPQ OR DAN OPEN AFTER YOU READ FIRST HUNDRED PAGES OR ONLY IF YOU DON'T SPOOK EASY (view spoiler)

Ok Dan I'll say bye...I feel a little queasy and fogheaded...I had a very vivid Vaelin Al Sorna dream...not exactly a nightmare but a spooky riding with the Brothers and dogs and wolves dream + yet I could also see the damn man approach + on a horse + with the dog? Huh! I'm prolly reading too much fantasy since October + a very visual reader + the imagination + the spookery. One would expect Malazan to have had more of this kind of an effect, no? Seeing as how it was supposed to be all so terrifying n all...but then I'm approaching it more like a kind of thesis...taking notes n all...let's see how long I can laaaaaaarst. Which is probably a stupid thing to say after buying all ten books.
And now Dan...dunno if I got anything left in me for a PM now xcuz I said it all here anyway + I don't see any PM from you? Mebbe you hit save instead of semd? Happens to me a lot whem I'm sleepy.
Ima say bye now since I've been typing for a good long while. I always start making a post and it ends up being a letter...😂😂😂
