idiffer | 765 comments To reply to your serious part of the post:

I find it difficult to know what to say SOMETIMES. I'd like to think that I've made huge strides in that regard since my high school introvert days. I have my own code of conduct regarding communication with other ppl, which turned out to be very much like Carnegie's (the psychologist). It works only when I'm actively trying, though, when I'm really invested in a person. When I'm just talking, not delving deep into other minds, ppl tend to get offended sometimes at my phrasing or sense of humour. But you know what, that's mostly them being stupid, not me being wrong, even if I do say so myself. Regarding some things, I know I shouldn't say something but say it anyway cuz principles)).

I was misunderstood a lot more in the past, hence why I cultivated a manner of speech in which I described aaaall the nuances of what I wanted to say,, but I think I drifted a bit away from this manner in the last 5 years due to the fact that my social circle shrunk significantly, leaving ppl that understood me as is.

About the time I sent you a PM when you needed friends... Good to know my gesture was appreciated. I won't say it was purely altruistic, because NOTHING ever is on the deepest level. Having heart to heart talks was sort of my hobby back in the day, and I enjoy it to this day, but don't seek out such convos as much as I used to. See, this is one of those times where I deliberately say something that... may ruin the moment, shall we say. But you've proven you can take it, private! *salutes* Raccoon bravo out.

I'll probably start posting in the 3 sep one, and... i dunno, duplicate my posts in the sep 10 one ?? And if you'll be superlate, then how will you choose where to post? You see why this is bad?"

There's no need for such duplication. I think I will be able to find your comments, especially given that you've told me which thread you're going to be using.
Reckon this was consciously planned bcuz a few people wanted to wait for the paperback release date...rather luxurious of them to give a separate thread, I think.
Given quick shipping Nevernight should be with me tomorrow night so I'll start day after tomorrow. I give you my word I will read quickly and continuously but it may take me some time to get thru two books to Darkdawn. I'll definitely leave posts and spoilers when I get there.
Hope you enjoy the book...like I said, it's really good that you decided to participate more actively in BRs.

Considerate shmunsiderate :)) I really enjoy posting pictures around here for everybody.
I can see the pic but yea, I know what you mean. The app sucks. If I may suggest, I'd say ditch it unless you're rtavelling and really care about data consumption. Ha! This stuns me...*drumrolls* I am about to give a tech tip...if you open Goodreads in your phone browser and scroll to the bottom and clikc "use desktop version" the page will open in the best, most useable way. @Manju taught me this.
*grins* I see you started the Riyria Chronicles. I loved them. They're especially yummy and jumbly AFTER finishing the main story bcuz of just how many Easter eggs Sullivan put in.
It'll be good to know which one you liked the best, once you finish them all. Also, if you are planning to read his prequel series (Age of) let me know. Because that's something I want to get to...someday...perhaps next year.

Shae | 372 comments Ah, I shall have to try your tech tip - I just need to remember what my Goodreads password is to log into the desktop version on my phone, lol :-)

Yes, currently listening to The Crown Tower on Audible - really enjoying it! There is something so very comforting and cosy about the way that Tim Gerard Reynolds narrates these stories - much prefer listening to him in my car, driving between clients, than the radio :-)

HAHAHA...this was masterful and put me in a very good mood...tell me Lann, are you by any chance a supersecret spy and master assassin ahem...working a completely boring and unimportant job in the diplomatic services?
Don't think for a minute I can't see how you covered up what is essentially a complete rejection and ass kicking with that very gentile turn of phrase. I'm imagining you saying it in a Gordon Ramsey voice...the way he calls people "sweetheart" just before he verbally decimates them. Well if Gordie spoke American that is.

Thanks for letting me down easy! Gawsh, I feel like little Calvin (Bill Watterson's my favourite...I really LOVE that motormouth kid and his imaginative sense of play) were given a sweet 🍭 and then told to run along and play in the garden. Daddy's busy!

But yea. You're right. I genuinely miss reading with you too ❤️...which is why I asked. You don't talk much but when you do its always worth listening to. That and *smirk + KICK* your really odd collection of book titles...as culled from that ole Book Name Game thread....😂😜😁👢

NB Now I'm putting my old post here more as a note to myself so I can obtrusely nag gently check on the status of your reading mojo the closer we get to the starting date, which is still some time away. I still hope it returns soooooooooooon, man. The threads need more such boring, unimportant diplomats to push paper around. Don't you agree, Lady Siobhan?

(view spoiler)

Uhhm, so far I tried Shae, Melissa, and Chris. I'm like a virus and spread impartially, in all directioms....so my next (cunning) plan is to bring Graeme to the NOS4A2 thread but my hopes on this are low to nil because he is so caught up and fashionably comme il faut on the horror game I fear he's already read it. Still, he's always nice about coming around to chat with us...stopped by on Catch-22 even though he'd already read it AND came by than once actually. Mighty decent of him...he wasn't just being fakely polite...no wonder his vampires spaaaaarkle ✨✨✨

And I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I've never seen Downton, not a single episode.

I started watching Poirot years ago when I wanted to see how to write a murder mystery and got sucked in due to the interaction between the characters; I'm still not as keen on the episodes with just Poirot.

Haha, and this was one hard landing. Look everyone…see how Peregrine Took turnd me down like a bedspread kicked me like that fatal clanging bucket down the wellshaft of Moria.
Which, I know all the LoTR purists will be smirking at this…thinking “it was a stone Pippin dropped not a bucket, you loutish underread…”
Yah, I know. *grins* but bucket went better with the “kicking” part than stone or armoured dwarf skeleton.
And I ‘ope you feel better now, Took.
Aaaaah Wyrm! Keep hearing good things about it. I know its apocalyptic but is it scary, man? I am dithering on the fence because it is a BIIIIG one….

EDIT I am obviously influenced by Shaitarn's LoTR updates...

message 714: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Z, I wouldn't call it apocalyptic OR scary, so... I would describe it as intelligent, though.

Speaking of superheroes, a tv show called The Boys was recently released. It's a good twist on the genre, which is why I actually enjoyed it.

message 716: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Um, no(( To be honest, I dropped the series closer to the end (it started out very strong though).
But generally, I'm not one to reread stuff anyways, no matter how good. Since 2017 I've reread probably 1-2 books, and it wasn't nearly as good as reading them the first time.

OH! I just...I thought everyone had already finished it in the big BR with Iain, Anni and Virginie...and wasn't sure if there was anyone left to read with me, unless it were someone who liked it enough for a reread....

Hi Elinor, hi Anni :))) I ❤️ being in that club!!

And also Thy Royal GIFness...those impromptu solo BRs you read with your fabulous alterego...me wants IN...
*grins*
So when you posted (elsewhere) last week that you'll be reading Scythe THIS week:

Elinor wrote: "I will be reading (hopefully) Scythe, The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp and Gemina next weel, if there is something that grabs your attention..."

Well??
In any case, what is the point of stopping at only a mere 92 Currently Reading when I can tip you closer to the dizzying edge of the big one-oh-oh?
*KICK*
😂 and to think I used to tease @Sha when she had thirty odd books open...

Say yes for Scythe AND Thunderhead and we can begin as soon as you wish...wake up the old threads like they are doing with the Hungry Bird Chronicles...

And here...a bribe an innocent and pure offering...

(view spoiler)

Also I will look see if I have any more Mary Stewart though I think I bagged the best of the lot when I read (and reread and reread and reread) Madam, will you talk? That book just helps me unwind. She does love her (for us, vintage) cars...
You guys eventually planning to read any killer thrillers?

That's nice Aidiffer...there's lots of interest in that one, gonna be many people there so you will have lots more fun than with Darkdawn...reckon you had to read DD alone...Sauron got busy with his transition...felt bit guilty...leaving you alone...
But with this Abercrombie one I know for sure Siobhan and Shaitarn will be there and they are both engaged and supportive BR partners. I've lost count of how many books I read with Shivorn last year and I think this is my third or fourth BR with Shai. And I think Lannister (Chris H) was doing abig Abercrombie marathon this year too.
Enjoy! And of course eventually I will make my way to the thread...haaaww...perhaps in 2020...I am too a founder member of this Always Late club we were just talking about above.

Heh, but you sure are piling up the BR invites, man...with me, Ange and Co pushing on Vicious/Villainous, meanwhile the SuperPowereds are clamouring for you to join them but that isn't nearly enough to cover the great din coming from the Abercrombie threads...

I KNEW this would happen immediately once you joined a single BR (they are impossible to resist and quickly rack up before you know how it happened) which is why I kept encouraging you to join them more and mooooore...
😃 now...are you quite sure you will not change your mind about superheroes?
Or else...if she agrees, that is...wanna come read Scythe with me, Elinor and her BR alterego (view spoiler)?
But but but...if you don't want to come...don't kill/crush us completely on our Great Biiiig Scythe Love and anticipation, ok?
*KICK*
But then you have no idea how nervous you make me sometime😅...when you are scathing...in the reviews...

message 725: by idiffer (new)

idiffer | 765 comments Actually, Darkdawn threads had a lot more activity than A little hatred has. Probably bc you can't say many bad things about Abercrombie's series (this one at lest, cuz shattered sea was meh).

"Transition", lol. How do u identify as now? My jokes are soooo...

But yeah, you're veeery behind. But still, when u finish, post your thoughts, however late. I'll still be subscribed to the threads.

The BRs that I JOIN are minor miracles really. Usually it has to be a sequel to a popular series which I actually... like too. I sure hope the inevitable BR for Kingkiller chronicles 3 will be epic. Anyway, nowadays I read fantasy with like 100-400 ratings, which doesn't even make it on the radar of this group.

Scythe.. Ahhh, well, you did ask not to dampen your mood, but I read a couple of negative reviews which convinced me not to read it. Though the authours dystopia series was entertaining. Nobody seems to get that it is very much a parody, even if maybe unintended. Though it is hard to believe - there is some seriously stupid shit in Unwind (is that what it's called?)

Do u have examples of when my reviews made you nervous? Are they review reviews or just posts in a BR thread? But hey, I gotta place my hate somewhere...

idiffer | 765 comments I'm for saying what you want to say. If there is something to say. That is why I wrote that I'll "try" - because I may have nothing of substance to say. What am I to do, make something up? Trying in my case meant thinking about your posts more thoroughly.

"when I keep showing up for you...feel like a real square/'hick' out there posting alone.." (c)

Where did you post alone? I guess I could have totally forgot about one BR in the past or, if we're talking about posts elsewhere, then I could have not responded a couple of times because I didn't have anything of substance to say. But I feel like that's an overwhelming minority of situations.

I may be totally wrong. If so, feel free to correct me.

URGGGG this is what happens when you make your bookpost without checking your notifications and feed first.
No of course not...not AT ALL wrong. This is the whole point of the group...to shamelessly sicourage people and drag them into more and more BRs ;) until the tower of books falls on their head (unless the person happen to be Finbar who eats them for brekky, lunch and dindins...can you tell I've been spending time with Aaron? 10 month old nephew) Lawwwd knows I tried hard enough with you all this while.

Never mind Andy...I was impatient (one of my worst traits) and therefore cranky + also a little worried (you vanished) and therefore additionally cranky. Of course I was posting only for you...nobody else there, man. Heck...I ordered the books only xcuz you asked me to the BR and now I'm kinda thrilled you did bcuz otherwise who knows when I'll have gotten round to this series + I enjoyed it very much and would immediately start Godsgrave bcuz (view spoiler) Just what I needed at this moment, somehow, but I didn't know. Angela Jr may still be reading Book 3 (I think) she'll have finished Godsgrave by now...was far ahead of me...

Ohk then...I'll keep that in mind from now on...glad you're fine...😂😂😂

No lack of love from any of us when it comes to Abercrombie, tho I guess we + Siobhan + Anni are among his fiercest fans here. Iain liked this series too, and Scott...
Ohk...I pulled my paperback off the shelf to make you some spoilers. Before opening the book even I remember my fave scenes were:

Sure Anni...you know I will deffo get to it but after reading the First Law standalones because I already (it's a disease Pure Accident 😂) mighta clicked one of Silvana's spoilers that says many chars are repeated so I'd like to go in order.

Kinda lucked out in getting someone to read with in *waves vaguely into the middle distance* Chris here...it's why I'm so chuffed. I thought (like Worm) absolutely everyone will have finished their Great Abercrombie Reread as per the 2019 master schedule...and I'd be doing that 'alone' thing where I read a series one year after everyone read it at release.

But now Lannister and I can follow everyone at our leisurely "physical book" pace...using the ole threads...I expect we'll fetch up at A Little Hatred in some weeks...glad to hear Abby's still got it.

I'm starting to have some quibbles with Godsgrave MC at this point...heh...the MC's initials in that series are actually MC...😂😂😂 I am going there to bookrant post cultured and aesthetic spoilers.

Good stuff, though. I definitely loved that Glotka scene (as I did so many of his).

Honestly, I'm surprised how much of this book I don't remember at all from the first reading. I guess it's a good thing I'm rereading. The basics are familiar, but so much of the in depth stuff is like new to me. It's only been 8 or 9 years since I read it...I do see it getting a bump up in rating though - I'm liking it better than I remember liking it the first time through.

I love the sunny autumn days in the forest and instead of sharing some pictures from the internet, here are two of my favourites :) I went hiking with friends last month and it was amazing, we had to climb upwards for a bit at first but the view was worth it

And that's an old monastery, about an hour drive from my home :)

The trees are actually still quite green in the pictures, but by now, we've got more red, yellow and brown...
I hope you also enjoy the days getting colder and more cozy, have a great day, week and time in general :) An let's wrap this up with a cozy reading place (tho not mine, sadly 😂)
