Zaara's Buddy Read Tracker

Mmmh... The place where I did my preparatory classes (preparation for 2 years to take the national exams to enter an engineering school) was in a forest, in the middle of nowhere. It was a boarding school, and I was once stuck in my room the entire day 'cause a HUGE wild boar decided the best place to take a nap with her babies was.... in front of my door. And since wild boars tend to charge/attack you if you approach their babies.... ^_^"
My engineering school (which is different from Uni in France) is really ugly. The Civil Engineering building in particular (where I had most of my classes) is the weirdest, worst conceived building I've ever seen. Ironic heh?
I mean... It's basically a three-store block of concrete. The weird part is that... There's no stairs inside -_-". So, to get from the ground floor to the first floor, you have to exit the building, take the OUTSIDE stairs, and then re-enter the building. And since that's not stupid enough, each floor is divided in 3 parts that DO NOT communicate. So... Imagine you're on one side of the third floor. You want to go to the room next to the one you're standing one. Normally, you would go in the corridor, walk to the next room and then enter, right?
But, the room is in another 'part' of the building. So you have to walk to the nearest outside stairs, get down to the ground floor, go around the building, take another set of stairs to the third floor, get inside the building and then walk in the corridor to get to your classroom.
And of course, it's raining 95% of the time in Nantes hahaha :p
EDIT: Wow... I ended up ranting haha.

Virginie...sounds like as much happened at your school as at Hogwarts...I'd like to hear more abt the forest pls...AND the concrete horror...esp any theories you may have on what the person who designed it was smoking at the time...😂😂😂
EDIT...*and

Huh? Ok today Beste wins the obscurity prize bcuz I didn't understand this comment, sweetheart....but whatever cohesion is happening...I'm glad it brought you here! I just voted on your poll...btw.

I didn't know the polls were up, I will go vote too :P

Well there goes the my minimalist idea of French universities gotta stop associating the French new wave with all of france hahaha

Ahk! Yea just a little inter-team pep talk.

As a matter of fact I never bothered to ask but I assume your Asian or have Asian roots hence your name can I ask what your roots are?
I'm not I'm not I've been busy with stuff since last week flew by I have been working on my projects (I've learned now I will be focusing on 2 things) One is comic animation with my friend I'm writing the story he is drawing it and hopefully we get somewhere with that Also I'm finally going to make my sketch since I have a story idea now I need the people and plan. All the best for your projects. Sounds like you have a lot to be getting on with.

She’s not in need school she’s in normal uni doing chemistry she organised this event which involved everyone involved with chemistry or the like although she wanted to do medicine so yeah

Just...fifteen minutes ago...and I don't even want to post the picture of a Baby Gorilla.

They're cleaning up Mom & Baby now. Man, I wish I was home. Can't wait to be home now. Going home for Xmas.
I tried telling Sauron FIRST yesterday bcuz of the grandfatherliness (I, like Harry, am very hungry for the father figures) but he didn't see it...😂😂😂 and then I lost my nerve and deleted my post.
Sometimes I think I worry too much abt giving offence...put myself thru too much needless Mortal Torment...😂😜😀

Congrats...

Congratulations on the new family addition. Best wishes to the everyone there and the new Aunty Zarra.

I love you all too...thank you! And ❤️
It's actually my brother's baby, @Ahdam and @Kari.
My sister (like I told Anni and Siobhan)...my sister is getting married to an American bloke in a big splashy Chicago affair so there's that. She's having multiple weddings...imagine! One over Xmas, in Sydders, and then the last big one next year. I'm dreading all the upcoming Big Bridal Bridery...👰👰👰 so much that my plans for next year I...ohk I am deffo babbling now...😂😂😂
But where is Anni? Where is Beste? Where is Margret? Where Ron? Did they not even see?
:-(
But it is the holidays, everyone is busy and I should not be so tastelessly greedy and attention-seeking. But it is the first time I've made a personal post/update and don't worry @all I am not gonna be annoyingly rattly and in your face with baby pictures...sometimes...ppl can get like that.
I appreciate the difficulties of politeness...truly I do...😂
Oh and btw @Anni already left me a string of comments all around the place which I am only now getting around to respond to. Sorry Anni...for being a late (rude) prat. I never logged in, darling. But I will make it up to you. Very soon. I will ALSO leave a string of messages for you everywhere...haha!
@Siobhan...I know, right? Thanks for saying that...you really...you really...you're like Harry, Siobhan. You know WHAT to give. And WHEN and HOW. You know to make ppl feel loved and included. But then I think I already banged on about your leadership qualities elsewhere at length...😂😂😂
Soooo tell me...
How'd I do? With the reckless abandon of my complimentin'...are you blushin' and cringin'?
Are are you in fact, as crimson as the redwold?
Or shooooooould I have put crimson in boooold?
Ooo look I serenaded you, almost.
At least it reads to me like the refrain of a very very VERY bad song...😂😂😂
@Graeme...squad's growing mate...two nephews AND a niece now. Soon I bet all the rest of Clan Sevenwaters'll be getting with and proliferatin'...oooww!

Hope you all have happy holidays! I've been so busy this week I've not been online much, and probably won't be for another week much. But I'm trying to stay in the loop!
❤️🎄

Hope you all have happy holidays!"
Haha...😂😜 yeah mostly I'm always just posting silly and extremely fluffy pictures of candy and cake and teacups n soup cups n stuff altho I did break out a couple of Old Masters for Mayim bcuz of her liking for all things Austenesque...
This is the first time I wrote a ugh-ly song tho'...😜😂😄
I hope your Xmas was wonderful.
Happy New Year, Siobhan.

Thanks, Jess :-)))
Hope your Xmas was great too!
Happy New Year...🎉🎉🎉

Can you swing by my Bingo thread and choose one or two books for me when you have some time? :D

Thank you for the visit, Shae, and this note. Both are much appreciated, not least the underlying sentiment.
How are you? What are you reading?
I never did get around to telling you how much I liked looking at the pictures of your childrens' Xmas project, did I? Forgive me...my brother's wife was going thru a very fraught labour at the time and it was an anxious bunch of days all round. Your post never did completely slip my mind tho...😊

Stopping by yours now....

Completely understandable about the anxious wait for the new nephew at that time :-)
Did you survive all the 'Big Bridal Bridery' (I laughed when you posted that comment :-) that went along with your sister's wedding?
Life is pretty good at the moment, it's Winter down under, so perfect weather to curl up in front of the fire with a book, every chance I get - currently working my way through the Heir of Novron and really enjoying it :-)

Oh you sweetheart you…look how you remembered everything…what else need be said? I feel very loved. Euuueh, my family are a raucous turbulent bunch and I’m a curmudgeon and (contrary to appearances) very antisocial but heh, I survived.
I can’t wait for you to find out who the Heir of Novron is, Shae. When I reached the part I was so excited I remember my hands were shaking in the typing…spelling and grammar went right out the window and I think I was shouting at poor Siobhan in capital letters…hehehe…
Everything I guessed abt that series was so drastically wrong, like all/most of my guesses, but I had such happiness in making my ghastly farout predictions and esp writing them out. For me it’s the best way to get something out of my head/system, write it all out longhand, then if you look at it couple days later and it hasn’t a leg to stand on, delete….
Have you/ are you gonna read the Riyria singles? I forgot the official name of the prequels but (secretly) I have a greater affection for them. Dunno why bcuz they were patchy at best and many ppl sneered at them, xept Dulgath and Winter.

When I got hitched, many years ago, I tried desperately to keep everything sweet and simple - garden wedding, simple dress/barefeet, lovely afternoon tea with gelato for the children afterwards. However, with the extensive Latin and Celtic family connections, it was impossible to keep the guest list below 120 people!
At the end of the day my hubby and I realised that we'd barely had a chance to speak to each other. When we finally managed to escape, we went for a massive walk along our favourite local beach, it was dusk and the beach was empty - bliss!
My goodness, I found out who the Heir of Novron is, I didn't guess correctly either, t'was a good twist :-) I think I will read the prequel series when I get a chance - there's something comforting about MJS books, his writing style is easy and engaging :-)
Are you enjoying your current reads?

Your wedding day sounds like it was a lovely one, despite it not being exactly how you envisioned it. But weddings never are, no? Like life never is. For me, your words painted a beautiful mental picture of a very vibrant, organic day of celebration…
I esp liked how you described the ending of your day…how you and “Mr Shae” both have a person who MEANS the words said on that day. For all the other days, come what may. This is brighter than the dream because it is real. It is a warm, living heart you can lay your forehead on?
And you have this and Satan has this and Mayim and Ron and Rob and Lannister and Graeme and Andrew and Murf and Siobhan and Anni and Marge. I am so proud of y’all (and also a little thankful) even in the moments when I am most cynical and wearing the Hekate face.
But aaaaaah you knew this already, no? And I knew you knew. Ergo, look how I wasted two paragraphs!!!! Heh…look…you gave me wedding sniffles so I’m leaving it bcuz this is riddikulus…I’m terribly cynical or so I tell myself…several months ago I wrote a loooong PM for Anni about exactly such a wedding dream/scene…or a similar one…then I lost them somewhere, both the message and the sense of the dream. I lost them both like smoke…and now somehow I’ve come around to this exact same discussion…I’d almost completely…huh! It was a very vivid dream…
*shakes self* eissshh…I have been babbling for a very long time…o my poor patient friend. Sorry!
Dunno if I can exactly say I am enjoying my current open books, but I am getting a lot from each of them. One of them is not exactly comfortable, damn thing is pressing things out of me almost against my will. And since (understatement, believe me) I analyse EVERYthing…I will let you go now and not torture you with more randomness…
Did your daughter write any new book reports after Frankenstein? Wonder what she’d made of him at the end of all our analysis…that Viktor guy has gotta be my most hated literary character from last year’s reads. Once again, sorry for the ‘longness’ of this and I hope I conveyed at least some sense of what I felt/meant.

Re wedding dream scape - isn't funny how certain things circle back to us!
Sounds like you're current reads are heavy going - I admire your persistence :-) I'm currently reading some very lovely and lighthearted books by self published author Liam Perrin. His stories are making me smile (sort of a humorous take on the tales of King Arthur and his Knights) and I can't wait to pass them onto my son (youngest child).
My daughter was so relieved when the study of Frankenstein finished - but she actually did really well in the subject, I think it really helped her to be able to talk through all the ethical concepts.
She's currently reading 1984 by George Orwell, for English - she's actually really getting into this one, but is a little freaked out by all the parallels between the idea of 'big brother' and the reality of this creeping into our modern life. Pretty good stuff for a teenager to consider in this age of screen addiction :-)
I'm quietly dreading when she gets to Crime and Punishment in the curriculum next year - back in the day I just couldn't read Dostoevsky (or Dusty Esky as we used to say :-) without falling asleep. I wonder if I'm finally mature enough to appreciate it now? Lol :-)

Heh, I don’t envy your daughter her impending “Dusty” trek and am certainly not judging you, certainly did not enjoy Anna Karenina last year but in the balance I think the slog was worth it. Beste and I were so angry at everything that happened!
I think we each have our own kind of melancholy, our own special variety of beautiful sorrow…that can reach into our innards and grab ‘em and twist ‘em into knots. For me, Russian Lit (and esp Tolstoi) brings to mind the universality of that sorrow…but there isn’t much variation in the tones of grey…aaaand I think I just made a totally misplaced and grossly misapplied fifty shades pun.
It’s a great idea to switch things up if things get too heavy, thanks I will take that advice. I’m taking it immediately and joining a bunch of BRs. The books you’re reading sure seem like fun. I hope we get to read something together SOON…last year was long ago. Heh, with that love of fantasy and those Celtic roots…I’m really tempted to ask if you’d come and read the Mists of Avalon with me and SHaitarn? We’re starting on the 5th or maybe the 6th…it’s said to be mighty good and not hard to get ahold of and it’s a nice chunky length that we can all sink our teeth into and discuss kinda like a GGKay.

Z, are you by any chance BR'ing A little hatred or Darkdawn?

Of course I understand, Shae. And yeah *nods vigourously* please come visit us and chat. We love spoilers and detailed book chats and know you and Melissa are on the same vibe, which is why I asked/wanted you both specially.
Glad you enjoyed the book! Always fun to talk about those ones…
Haha #bigfail Sunflowers never loaded, did it? But here is another Van Gogh…one I love even more. Cunningly (and in a juvenile manner), I am replying here instead of on PM so that I get to simultaneously make my thread pretty…
Hope this one at least loads…my comp skills are pretty bad o wth they are GLORIOUSLY abysmal in stunning stop in your tracks ways...

500 points is really awesome by the way! You're way up the leader board :D I'm on about 600. I really want us all to finish strong too, and I know we will!
Those WoR points are gonna be worth it! 💪
I'm going good thanks lovely. I've got it all planned out in my brain, I can finish all my buddy reads this month! We have a week left, I'm 80% through 3 books, I've just started one fluffy YA which I should fly through, and I'm sure I'll be OK with a Monster Calls at the weekend!
