Do you think that Evie was actually interested in Suzanne sexually and romantically or just confused love with admiration and having a strong female role model?

Combination of it all. A crush, a view of a different kind of life. Suzanne showed her some attention and affection when she wasn't finding it anywhere else.

While reading the book I really thought that Evie was in love with Suzanne but when I discussed this book in a seminar at uni everybody seemed to think that Evie was only admiring Suzanne's way of living and her carelessness.

I think it was a combination as well. Evie seemed to want to explore things more with Suzanne and may not have known herself how she felt about her.
