Caitie | 3 comments a historical romance and the woman is like a governess to two or three girls. (I think the girls are American and related-sisters or cousins) she boards a ship because she is on a trip to somewhere (maybe England) where she wants the girls to find husbands. she is very prim and proper and the captain is the opposite and a lot of the men on the ship say that its bad luck to have women on board, and unlucky things start happening. something happens with one of the girls who has a pig and they wanted to eat it but it jumped off the ship as the girl tried to save it. also the governess injures her hand cleaning or fixing/doing something on the ship and tries to hide it but the captain guy finds out and takes care of the wound.
there was also a part about not much fresh water available so the captain denies her and the girls extra until she admits that she needs it to wash clothes because of their periods or whatever and he lets them have the extra water
The girls come from a rich family in America (father in some type of business)
I think that the captain might have been friends with the governess's father (and that's why she boards that specific ship)but i'm not sure about that
the captain often makes fun of the governess because she is very prudish and a spinster
the governess is having a hard time getting husbands for the girls/making them more proper
the captain and governess fall in love despite both or them thinking would never marry and the governess befriends the other sailors (two of which i think include a young/teenage boy and an old guy who was a cook or something and didn't like the governess at first because he thought she was bad luck)
i think there is some type of storm or something too but it may not have been that serious (or maybe it was the most dangerous moment of the book I have no idea x/)

anyway, that's pretty much all i can remember right now. I read this a long time ago and i cant remember the title or the author and i think i deleted it off my reader on accident. so if anyone could help me that would be great c:

Michele | 2488 comments When you say "a long time ago" what does that mean exactly -- 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990? Do you know if the book was newer or older at the time you read it? Was it a YA book or geared towards adults? Would you call it fiction with a romance as part of the story, or pretty much straight-up romance?

someone just found the book for me but thanks so much for helping :3 the book is Sea Scoundrel by Annette Blair. It's a straight-up romance by the way geared towards adults. sorry by "a long time ago" i just meant a couple years or so >_<' it was apparently published originally under the title "Lady Patience" in 1999 and then under the current title in 2012.

Whoops, meant to reply to you. thanks again c:
