Independent book editors are called upon to manage many facets of a business and wear a multitude of hats, while also honing their craft and actually working on their editing projects.
What are the challenges you find yourself facing as an editor? Is it a particularly annoying administrative task? A difficult promotional or marketing tool? Or an overwhelming in-box influx? What is it that causes you to groan in frustration, sigh in exasperation, or cringe with trepidation?
Or have you faced a recent challenge and discovered an amazing solution?

Two things that I have difficulty with: 1. Being active on social media as an editor...my Facebook page, my blog, my website, Instagram. 2. Advertising my services. I never know what to say or how to say it that would make an author at least inquire.
The hardest part is the marketing. I don't mind all the other stuff, it's like GreenFairy said, it's knowing what to say in an ad. Writing copy is so much different and, in my opinion, more challenging that editing an ms.
I agree that marketing is one of the hardest things I struggle with. I maintain my blog (ish) and social media, but it's finding the right balance. I try to blog helpful things for writers and link that to my Facebook etc, but I then think whether this is enough, or should I be saying something else, etc. I don't want all my posts to be simply advertising, but they can't all be guidelines and no advertising at all. It's a toughie!
