Zeta | 6 comments Hello! After a lot of fruitless Googling I thought I'd try my hand here.

The book is from the mid to late nineties, and I remember it being fully illustrated on every page with pastel birds. The gist of the plot was that the world was falling into darkness and they were all flying to look for the sun. Every time I search all I pull up is Jonathan Livingston Seagull, which isn't quite what I'm looking for. Anyone else ever come across this book?

Kristen, this reminds me of an ancient Sufi folktale "The Conference of the Birds" which has been re-told as a picture book over the years. However, a huge flock of birds is flying across the world in search of their true king. I read a 2011 version by Peter Sís: The Conference of the Birds.

Is this a picture book (about 32-48 pages) or a longer chapter book with mostly words?

Oh my god, that's it exactly! Thank you so much, I was afraid I'd never be able to find it again!

That's great! Is it an earlier version of The Conference of the Birds fable? Peter Sís's book was published well after the late 90's.
