Shay (shaylyn318) | 61 comments I just recently started looking into subscription book boxes. I want to order some but don't really know which ones are the best. Have you ordered any, which do you like most?

I know some of my friends have done the Book of the Month. Which you pick like a book a month and get that sent to you. I think you choose from four? But correct me if I'm wrong.

There's also something I believe called Owl Crate!

Meri Kate (booksandsunshine) I have been doing book of the month for three months now and love it. You get to pick one book as part of your subscription. In addition to that, you can purchase other books from their site for $10 I believe. If you don't like any of the books for that month, you have the ability to skip as well, but I have been happy with the options each month so far.

Alyssa (batgirl2401) I did Book of the Month for a year's subscription and it was a really great service. For the whole year it was about $125, which when you're getting MINIMUM 12 hardcovers, is not a bad price point. The selection of the books was good, but tends to stay along the same lines as Contemporary/Murder Mystery/Romance with a more recent turn to the Fantasy/Paranormal genres.
They send you an e-mail on the 1st of each month with the selections they have, typically five but it has been six as well, and you pick which one sounds the best. If you were stuck between two or even three, you could purchase the other selections for $9.99. If none of them really capture your attention, you could skip the month and have the month roll over for you. I only skipped 2 months during the entirety that I had the subscription. It used to come with little cute things like sunglasses, wine glass coozies, mints, etc., but stopped doing that midway through 2017. BOTM was really ahead of the times when it came to their selections, as I would always see the books they had available going viral a few months later on other platforms. I'm no longer subscribed to the service just because I really fell behind on my TBR and I wanted to see what other boxes were out there. I still occasionally get ARCs from them to review for future boxes.
I've been looking into other options and the most promising seem to be the aforementioned Owl Crate and also FairyLoot. :)

Jenny (jennyc89) | 135 comments I'm a Book of the Month member and I love it!! A lot of the choices are books that are being published that month. I look forward to the first of the month because the selections are announced and I get to pick my new book. I also love that you can skip a month if you don't like the selections.

I think it has been! I like it that you can skip a month if you fall behind or feel like you aren't into any of the selections and you can always add other books for much less - which is what I love.

I also have audible as well so I tend to get more expensive book on audible since its a flat rate as well!

It sounds like a great deal! I'll have to try it out soon...

Autistic Muffin (thelittlepotato) | 3 comments I used to do Book of the Month club with Owl Crate and they were really good. I miss being part of that but I ran out of room for books and bookshelves so I had to give it up. Hoping I can rejoin Owl Crate soon though.

Jim Townsend | 35 comments Some years ago I had joined something called the Science Fiction Book Club (SFBC; www.sfbc.com) which had a format similar to the record and tape (later CD) clubs. Through it I got a lot of science fiction and fantasy classics such as The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien; The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice; the series by Jim Butcher featuring the wizard Harry Dresden; and both the Black Company and Garrett, P.I. series by Glen Cook.
