I listened to the whole first Kushiel trilogy... I didn't really start cringing while listening until the 3rd book when the hardcore rape happened for a long while (view spoiler) ...

The third one was really hard for me to read. Some sadistic shit there. The first in Imriel's trilogy ended up being my fav of the saga, by contrast.
This is probably common knowledge but I discovered the other day there's a subgenre of horror called splatterpunk and I nearly split my coffee up. I had to look it up for the defining characteristics and to summarize it's basically a bad 80's horror film in print even referencing what I just said.
