I'm not Asian myself, but I do know that getting representation to people is extremely important, and if I can help get the right book to the person who needs a certain character, then so be it.
Like I said, I really hope this book club helps me read more diversely and help get books to the people who need them!

I feel that I can relate to Asian characters more when it comes to relationships, culture, FOOD. When Asian books become mainstream, I feel hope that the "Asian experience" is still relevant to the rest of the world and that we are not excluded from the "literary conversation". I also write fiction, so that means a lot to me.
I hope to read more Asian books and help to promote Asian lit. Although I must say I read certain genres only. Please feel free to send recommendations my way!

My favorite Asian author is Kenji Yoshino because he addresses the issues of inclusion and covering in a meaningful way. I have heard him speak several times; he inspires and educates.
My favorite book with an Asian main character is Yeonmi Park's memoir, In Order to Live. She escaped North Korea at age 13 and ended up in the sex trafficking industry. Her courage and will to live provides critical lessons.
Asian characters mean a lot to me because inclusion has been my passion and mission throughout my life. I was the Global Chief Diversity Officer at Walmart and traveled to China, India, and Malaysia. I was very involved with our Asian/Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group.
What I hope to get from LitCelebrAsian is to meet fellow book lovers and get great recommendations on books.
