Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm marking spoilers - and wow - I may be the only one reading this! But that's ok - it is a fun book.

Winter sections (view spoiler)

Marcus sections - (view spoiler)

Raesinia section - (view spoiler)

I'm really curious to find out the truth of Janus's plan for Winter and the leather backs. I agree the coincidence is too great, but then why wouldn't he just tell her he found Jane?

I hope we find out the truth behind house fire in this book. I assume Janus wants to arrest Danton in order to make the Duke look bad. Which appears to be the case at the end of Winter's section for this part.

I'm curious what Raesinia will do when she gets found out by her friends, or now that Danton has been arrested

Suzanne | 1582 comments I get the feeling (from the last book and this one too) that Janus really likes keeping his plans to himself. I'd sure be annoyed if I were Marcus or Winter!

That's true, but I still don't see the point of not telling her about Jane if he knew, especially after bringing her up. That doesn't mean he'd have to tell her everything.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Yeah I don't see any point either - other than to just seem mysterious.

Conor | 57 comments Yeah Janus' habit of obsessively keeping his plans to himself is referenced a number of times in this book. imo not telling Winter that Jane was leading the Leatherbacks was an example of him being too mysterious for no reason.

The revelations about Marcus' family are interesting. Hope this will be followed up on.

Also Sothe, Jane and Danton are really cool characters. The main POV characters in this series tend to be likeable if unremarkable but there are a lot of great secondary characters.

Sumant | 522 comments Jane is has done a great job regarding the leatherbacks, because not only she has the control of whole dock area but she also keeps the tax farmers in check.

The Borgel banks seem to be the main power behind Orlanko as is shown to us and also the Sworn church is another power standing besides him.

Janus is definitely targeting one of these power centers as he gives info to Marcus regarding the black priest of Sworn church.

The sworn church has communications in form of possession of chosen individuals, this shows there is some nasty magic in this world.
