ABANDONED. Thriller - An assassin responds to a request for help from an old colleague

A semi-retired assassin receives a phone call or text message from a female mentor he hasn't heard from in years. Even though they were once lovers or partners, he never knew her last name or real name. She is requesting help, as she is currently being targeted by another assassin. One of the "bad guys" has his hideout in a shipping container and uses a motorized garotte to kill. At one point, I believe he kills someone in order to steal the victim's motorcycle. The semi-retired killer and his ex travel (or are chased) around the globe - I can't remember their motivation. Near the end, the semi-retired guy follows her to a hotel (I believe somewhere in Asia) and the high-end suite they are to meet in features a large waterfall / fountain. Read within the past year or two. May have been an audiobook.
