AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 665 comments Some questions to think about:

Bookstore/Library/books are a common trope in the cozy mystery genre. How does this book stack up against some of the other more popular ones, such as the Cat in the stacks, Booktown, Black cat bookshop, Dido Hoare, etc.?
What do you think of the librarian, who is not really a librarian character? (she is a frustrated paleopathologist)
What are your thoughts on the romantic subplots?
What do think about the change in perspective throughout the book, Professor Ryan and Megan Clark?

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 665 comments I know it is early in the month but I had this one already and had to order the glass blowing book so I finished this one first. Since many others have not started and/or finished I will just give my general impression.

I could not connect with the sleuth at all. I found her arrogant, unable to laugh at herself. Just in general took her Paleopathologist self way too seriously, especially considering she couldn't get a job in her field.

I much prefer the Miranda James library series, the Black cat bookshop, and Dido Hoare to this. For the sleuths and the writing style, as well as romantic subplots.

The romantic subplot here was just...odd. I leave it for you to read and decide for yourself.

I hope the glass blowing book is better otherwise I'll feel bad for picking bad books for my month:(

ChrisGA | 48 comments I thought the book was tongue-in-cheek. Ryan was an over-the-top caricature of a clumsy and goofy oaf rather than a credible history professor. Surely he could bother to read at least one mystery. She reminded me of Amelia Peabody in personality as well as professional interest-for all the reasons you mentioned. How could we take the idea of romance between them seriously?

My library doesn't have this and I'm deciding whether or not I want to try and get a copy.

AngryGreyCat (angrygreycatreads) | 665 comments It is 2.99 on kindle and used paperbacks are .01 on amazon. My used book store had all the other books in the series except the first one :(

Diane ~Firefly~ | 6 comments I read this book a long time ago and thought it was a bit below average which was a big disappointment because I absolutely "LOVE" the John Lloyd Branson books by her.
