Liz (liz_the_librarian) Step Back in Time: Read a Historical Fiction Novel

I don't know about everyone else, but historical fiction is one of my least favorite genres. I've always had a hard time getting into it (unless the book is about WWII). So this month's challenge will be an actual challenge for me!

I'm planning to read Moloka'i. I read a synopsis of it last year and thought it looked really interesting. So here's hoping Moloka'i gets me into historical fiction.

Share what you're planning to read, or let us know if you need some recommendations.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I enjoy reading historical mysteries, particularly those set in the 1800s up to WWI. Our book club book for this month is one of Victoria Thompson's Gaslight mysteries, set in 1880s New York City and the main characters are a widowed midwife and a police detective. It's a great series.

I just placed a hold on the first book in the Gaslight Mystery Series, A Murder on Astor Place.

Ingrid Hurst (bookrdr) | 285 comments I love historical fiction. Phillips Gregory is a great author for this category. I have read many of her books.

Angela Malerman (angelamal) | 41 comments My historical fiction was Property by Valerie Martin. Since Historical Fiction is so not my thing I just walked over to the display and picked up a book. It was very well written, descriptive and while I did enjoy reading it, I do so love a book with a little more action. I am going to the Library tonight and will pick up another, just so I feel like I have gotten something out of the Mini-Challenge.

Kiki | 1 comments It took me three tries to find a book I could get past the first page. I kind of hit a jackpot with The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel. I really enjoyed the story line and really found myself following the characters. I am now working on reading the third book The Mammoth Hunters.
