Well I broke out today! I treated myself to to The Thursday Next Chronicles. I think it was a bargin at £9.99 on kindle for the 3. Comes highly recommended by Emma and Trelawn, but what finally convinced me was that it is set in swindon. Swindon the most boring town in england, where I met Pete, where Colm was born! Oh yes, this was meant to be :-D

Enjoy!!
Enjoy!!
I was so happy to come home from work to a package in the mail from Barbara who sent me her copy of Those We Left Behind. I'm not quite sure when I'm going to fit it into my busy reading life...Hopefully it will be soon!

Well I picked up Only Ever Yours today. I'd built up 10euro free on Gutter bookshop loyalty stamps so it cost me 2 quid. Its a very female directed cover. I'm interested to see if this does the book a diservice ,potentially narrowing its readership
Yeah, the cover of the ebook is a bit girly. Story sounds interesting though. I've a couple to finish before I start that.I got another freeby in a give away today, Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog, autographed by its narrator Johnny Heller. I have to admit that I'm a bit of a sucker for doggy stories :-D
I'm worried that it will be a bad rehashing/derivative of The Handmaid's Tale which is a classic and absolutely brilliant.
Got 3 audiobooks in recent giveaways The Anatomist's Wife, The Lies of Locke Lamora and A Darker Shade of Magic. From Tandem audiobooks.
Locke Lamora and Darker Shade of Magic are both great I just got the sequel to Darker Shade of Magic, A Gathering Of Shadows
I've been weak and broken my pledge not to buy any books between Christmas and my birthday (April 21st). In my defense $25 out of the $30 paid for this order was paid with a Christmas gift card...So that doesn't really count, right? Also, I'm sick and my willpower is way down.
Ancillary Mercy which I know I want to own a physical copy of, since it's the third in the trilogy.
The Assimilated Cuban's Guide to Quantum Santeria as an e-book for reading while sick.
Octavia's Brood: Science Fiction Stories from Social Justice Movements

I'd probably have spent another 10 on top of that - you're sick - books heal ;-P
I was informed today that I have won a copy of Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25... in a giveaway. I am looking forward to reading it, I really enjoyed Val McDermid's Northanger Abbey. Should arrive in a few weeks.
In a shocking twist of fate I also won a proof copy of the book. I only entered to double Trelawns chances. Oops. Its yours if you want it Emma.
I just bought 4 audiobooks at $5.95 each:Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage
The Museum of Extraordinary Things
The Boston Girl
Ghettoside: A True Story of Murder in America
Got some great mothers day pressies :The Fifth Season
The Crown Tower
The Name of the Wind
Dance Upon the Air
A Man Called Ove
Emma wrote: "That's a good mother's day present."Isn't it just! All titles off my audible wish list :-D
I read three of them in the last year or so Margo and they are all great. Name of the Wind and Fifth Season are masterpieces and Michael J Sullivans book is great fun.
Sara wrote: "Barbara, my father read and really enjoyed the one about Shackleton."That'll be my Antarctica read.
Paul wrote: "I read three of them in the last year or so Margo and they are all great. Name of the Wind and Fifth Season are masterpieces and Michael J Sullivans book is great fun."Yes Trelawn, almost compensates for the pain of labour!!
Paul Name of the Wind has been on my wish list for ages, the other 2 fantasies are more recent additions based on recommendations from you among others!!
Paul wrote: "Someone listens to me then ;-)"well you seem to know your fantasy genre, not sure about much else ;P
Just came home from work to a lovely anniversary edition of Alice in wonderland. Well chuffed. Happy mothers day all
Margo wrote: "Cathleen wrote: "Happy Mother's Day to all :)."is it mothers day in the US aswell Cathleen?"
Mother's Day here is the 2nd Sunday in May. It seems so strange to me that you have it in March.

Thats weird. I rememder flying to states on business trip on fathers day many moons ago, and it was also fathers day there. I wonder is that one still the same, it's 19 june here.
Mother's Day is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday
Heather wrote: "Mother's Day is held on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is exactly three weeks before Easter Sunday"The idea that Mother's Day moves around would be maddening for me.
Barbara I imagine it must be quite for non Catholics over here - they'd have to check on it every year. I observe Lent so for me it's not so bad.
Seraphina wrote: "It's a bit like the clock changing nonsense"Now I'm really confused. If mothers day is tied into easter, (which is completely mad!) how can it be a different date in america?
I'm with you Seraphina, it's about time we stopped meddling with time! I see absolutly no advantage to it.
Margo that's because what the UK commonly celebrate as 'Mother's Day' is wrong. Sunday the 6th this year was Mothering Sunday, unrelated to the secular event of Mother's Day. But hallmark wouldn't make any money if they made that distinction now would they.
