I ordered The Christmas Club and Tipperary just a short while ago from Kennys, and they already arrived. I thought that was fast shipping. I'm excited to start reading them.

LOL Cathleen. I read The Waiting Room and that was really scary - not a great fan of flesh eating zombies! I was very taken with his writing style though and with the air of suspence he managed to generate. He is definately not for the faint of heart. Hoping there won't be any zombies this time
I have gotten some eclectic books recently. I won't list all the children's books I got from Paperback Swap that are for my students. I just received Michael Allen: Close Readings: Essays on Irish Poetry which is a collection on mostly Northern poets. I am not familiar with the late Michael Allen but got a good deal on the book from The Book Depository. Also arrived this week Spontaneous Shrines and the Public Memorialization of Death, which may sound morbid but the idea of these shrines has always fascinated me. They are common here, sadly, and there is one near my home that I pass everyday. The last is Water Is Wide: A Novel of Northern Ireland by Elizabeth Gibson. A book I've never run across but found it on Paperback Swap.
I received a LibraryThing book giveaway today.
The Most Wanted Man in China: My Journey from Scientist to Enemy of the State
I also received a free ebook for review from NetGalley.com
Practical Sins for Cold Climates

Now that's what you call an eclectic mix. I've never read Rainbow Rowell. Sounds fun!

It is a lovely mix.
Paul wrote: "Nice Gavin. I have Demon Road but haven't read it yet ( I got the Platinum special edition )"
I was hoping to get that version may do eventually.
So picked up some books at the library today!
Shadowshaper is a book which I keep great things about on BookRiot
Sorcerer to the Crown was also recommended by BookRiot and a few other sources. I've also had good luck this year reading fantasy/romance genre crossovers.
The Man Who Spoke Snakish. This one is fantasy recently translated from Estonian into English...How could I resist picking this one up off the new book shelf at my local library?

I read Sorcerer to the Crown earlier this year. Interesting enough , romance side is light enough not to out me off and it sets the series to follow up well .
Doing a little Book Shopping for gifts, and naturally I had to pick up some for me. Maria V. Snyder's Chronicles of Ixia first 6 books i.e The Study Trilogy and Glass Trilogy.
Those were books i read on an ereader once and have been meaning to get them physically. getting the 6 for a total of €24 Not to bad...
[ Off Lowplex, If I have to get work done on the car in new year would have picked up a few more book series of this site for the prices. Going to keep it saved though. ]
Chapman's Homer: The Iliad and The Odyssey
Another one I was meaning to pick up.
Will wrap them as presents to me from me lol.
That will be now till after Christmas but I already know what I am going to pick up if i get a book voucher.
Don't Worry SS these weren't on that list
I've had the same problem Gavin shopping, especially online. I've bought obscure titles so no worries about overlapping my Christmas list:Ancestral Voices: Selected Prose by John Hewitt
A Sense Of Wonder: Van Morrison's Ireland
Basho: The Complete HaikuRest Ye Murdered Gentlemen
Solstice by Joyce Carol Oates
The Crow Trap by Ann Cleeves
So I've decided that since it's not technically a Secret Santa gift, it was ok to open the gift Emma got me for being a moderator with her. Also It was on the heavier side and opening it on the 24th, would have required me to put it in my luggage for the train to Ohio. She gave me a gorgeous edition of Tender. I don't know if you can tell from the picture Goodreads gives, but the outer edge of each page is purple, so when you look at the non-spine of the book, it's purple. I haven't read anything by Belinda McKeon before.

The Girl Who Married a Lion by Alexander McCall Smith.
Brooklyn :-)
The Sea by John Banville
Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster.
Witches of Lychford by Paul Cornell.
The Evening Chorus by Helen Humphreys.
The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald.
The Golden Age of Murder by Martin Edwards.
The Road to.Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson.
The Culprits by Robert Hough.
My Brilliant Friend by Ellena Ferrante.
The Lake House by Kate Morton
Well you've enjoyed the series so that'll be a fun read. I'm delighted with all my books, the problem will be choosing what to read first.
That's a brilliant haul trelawn. I got an adult harry potter colouring book to have with my challenge. Brilliant. And pratchett books! Best Xmas ever bookwise
Sadly no Pratchett books this year but Trelawn did get me a gorgeous Pratchett quote Tshirt. I'll have to summon the energy to list the books I got here . So many great books
Well I got 8 books for Christmas (Trelawn beat me hands down).Around the World in Seventy-Two Days and Other Writings
The Narrow Road to the Deep North and Other Travel Sketches by Hasho
Between the World and Me
Only Ever Yours
The Little Paris Bookshop
A New and Complex Sensation: Esssays on Joyce's Dubliners
Spilly Jane Knits Mittens

Gavin wrote: "I got 11 lol. But have 40€ book vouchers to use. Ha."Barbara I have my eye on Only Ever Yours and The Little Paris Bookshop. Happy reading :)
Gavin book tokens are my favourite pressie
Book tokens are pretty much unknown here. There used to be gift cards that could be used at any independent bookstore but they seem to have disappeared. I'd like to know the reason though it's easy to imagine loads of reasons - the logistics seem complicated, and e-books might have impacted business as well. BTW, Kobos are ebook readers compatible with ebooks sold by indie booksellers. Mini ipads are great because they handle kindle, kobo, nook books etc, by downloading the apps. In addition to an iPad mini (great for traveling) I have a kindle and a kobo.

I've heard the Charlie Byrne's won best indie bookshop in Ireland in 2014 and would love to visit.
I just recently bought Golden Son. Had to get it almost straight away after finishing Red Rising, couldn't put it down! At first I thought it way too similar to the Hunger Games but there's definitely enough of its own storyline to make it interesting.
Emma wrote: "I've just picked up Gilead and The Watchmaker of Filigree Street in the kindle sale."I bought The Watchmaker of Filigree Street as dd on audible few days ago. Today dd is The Goldfinch which is really temting me. Yesterday bought Diggers, started (again) on slaughter house five. still haven't summoned up the will to finish the last 20 percent of The Heart Goes Last. I seriously think my new years resolution will have to be to stop book shopping in sales and to finish what I start.
Margo wrote: "Emma wrote: "I've just picked up Gilead and The Watchmaker of Filigree Street in the kindle sale."I bought The Watchmaker of Filigree Street as dd on audible few days ago. Today ..."
Well maybe just to finish what I start - life would be meaningless without the daily deals lol
My friend was up from Limerick and she got me two new books for Christmas;Helen by Maria Edgeworth and The Outsorcerer's Apprentice by Tom Holt. So many choices :-)
Just got a HC of The Taxidermist's Daughter in beautiful condition. Only .71 cents plus $3.99 shipping from Goodwill. I'm all set if we read this in the future or I may put it on the top of my teetering TBR pile.
Sorry Kevin :-D although it wouldn't do him any harm to be the short one in the relationship for a while :-)
So I only I got a total of 3 books for Christmas...which is ok because I'm really trying to trim my TBR. Also I haven't read all of my Christmas gifts from 2013 or 2014, so I'm making those priorities to finish in 2016 along with the 2015 ones. There's lots of good Irish books among those stacks.
Tender (from Emma)
The Shore (from my Aunt and Uncle)
Outlaw Odes (from my Aunt and Uncle...the author was one of my high school teachers)

Online shopping makes book buying too easy. I just picked up:Collected Poems by Derek Mahon. This is pretty pricey new, if you can find it. I have a used copy coming from Aberdeen.
The Great New Orleans Kidnapping Case: Race, Law, and Justice in the Reconstruction Era - for my book club. I got it used on Amazon for under $15 - it's $27 new.
And a linguistics text on a topic that interests me for a bargain price of under $4 The Acquisition of Creole Languages: How Children Surpass Their Input
We use this thread to comment on new books taking up residence on our shelves but; considering roughly 30 new books moved in this Christmas, we had to say goodbye to some older ones. Between us Paul and I have managed to fill a decent sized bag which will be dropped off at our local charity shop tomorrow. Sadly our supply well outstrips our shelf capacity :'(
Paul wrote: "It breaks my heart but needs must."Oh no - I hate having to part with books! My dream is to own a house with a library :-)
Mine too Margo :-) I have a picture of it in my head but alas for now we'll have to periodically cull our collection
