Added The Perks of Being a Wallflower then Amazon reminded me of the 3 paperbacks for £10 So got the following :;

I went to the second hand
bookstore and got The Woman Who Walked Into Doors,A Star Called Henry and The Golem and the Jinni. They also had a copy of The Dirty Dust: Cré na Cille for 6 dollars so of course I bought it :)

I quite enjoyed A Star Called Henry . Great book. Not mad on the sequels at all.

Collen it looks like there's only 2 sequels, so not too bad. My fantasy book group read The Golem and the Jinni last year, and you're in for a treat.

I had to do some book shopping as well to stop Trelawn using the entire voucher. I got The World Jones Made by Philip K Dick , The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson, John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs and The First Murder by a few authors including Karen Maitland

Based on the review Allan posted I ordered on Friday, and got today, Girl at War by Sara Novi´c . Also a used copy of Making Peace by George Mitchell arrived, and The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken from Paperback Swap. Also got Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell on Kindle for 99 cents.

Yet my pile of books to read is every so growing.

EDIT : that book not till October got hoodwinked again on the way america write months. Sigh longer wait but good on the pocket lol.

So himself ran out of books to read today(not a problem I'd ever have) so we ran in to town where he picked up Agent Zigzag: A True Story of Nazi Espionage, Love, and Betrayal and Last Man Off: A True Story of Disaster and Survival on the Antarctic Seas, which I plan on reading myself.
So while I was there.....picked up Lord of the Flies and The African Equation
Building up a high tbr pile

It seems that way from a lot of the reviews, it seems to be 5* or 1*
I'm hopeful that i'll enjoy it but either way it seems to be one of those books everyone should read.

I really enjoyed Lord of the Flies. Trelawn hates it with the fire of a thousand suns.
Its cerrainly worth a read either way

I read Lord of the Flies 50 yrs ago in school--required book. I have mixed feelings about it. Certainly a very dark book.

I enjoyed [book:Zig Zag: The Incredible Wartime Exploits Of Double Agent Eddie Chapman|3956388]. It was the only factual account of espionage I've read so found it intriguing. He was quite a character!

So, As Amazon fumbled ( the address was not readable on parcel ) up my order and the things were returned i had to reorder the items and The Martian was no longer available till next week and needed the stuff as soon as possible so added The Ocean at the End of the Lane in it's place. Granted they did waive the shipping costs for two-day delivery, first time doing delivery like this i wonder how true it is for Ireland

While I'm still being good in my aim not buy any more physical books until I read more of my tbr pile, I couldn't resist a couple of titles in the Audible UK 10th anniversary sale, and bought The Winter of Our Discontent, one of the Steinbeck's I've yet to read, as well as Bill Bryson's One Summer: America, 1927 for just over £3 each-great value, and great company for my planned painting next month!

Our house is like the Forth Rail bridge, Seraphina-once you finish painting one end of it, you have to start painting the other end again-I've plans for the living room, dining room, ensuite and a bedroom this summer, in addition to our fence in the back garden-I can't wait... :-/

I can't believe you haven't painted all those rooms already.
I recently acquiredGirl at War after Allan posted an interview with the author. I am planning to read it next hopefully.

Having seen that Seraphina is currently reading Hubert Selby Jr, I was inspired to buy the three of his novels that I've yet to read, The Room, Waiting Period and Song of the Silent Snow. I also took a fancy for some fresh NYC writing, so purchased three recommendations from last year's Guardian piece on best books from the city - Emma Who Saved My Life, Down These Mean Streets and The Girls in the Office.

That'll probably do me for a while-apart from when I buy 'Here's Me Here' at the Glenn Patterson launch later this evening.

All told, I think the self imposed restrictions are going pretty well for me...

If I am keeping track, your ban doesn't apply for author signings, nor for weekends. I imagine much of the book buying during the week is online. This still gives you some latitude for getting into book buying mischief:)

It's less of a ban and more of a book buying obstacle course. Allan is finding imaginative ways around traditional book buying embargoes, liking ploughing right through them

I've been a good person on BBB World of Books has Sir Terry books and others currently down on price on eBay nearly caved if it wasn't for buying Consoles I would've caved ha.

Only reason I'm not buying books at the moment is I'm broke due to a hundred birthdays coming together and having to pay our yearly maintenance fee on the house.Once it hits my next payday I'll be flying

I am skipping the Politics and Prose member sale this weekend (20% off all books) because I am broke. I have several books I got there during the spring sale I haven't read so maybe that should become some kind of rule. For every book I buy at the sale, I can buy one at the next sale.
I think it'd be fun to start compiling a list of "rules" and exceptions. for example-
1) you are allowed to buy any book during a BBB that you can get into the house without your "other half" knowing.

Ironically, I'm also on a "BBB" of sorts due to a few months abroad starting in August. Although a few books did happen to appear on my porch during the last week. I think I may be buying books subconsciously which is really out of my control and should to added to Allan's exceptions to the BBBs. My unconscious self didn't go too crazy, unfortunately.

Regarding audiobooks, I just bought Macbeth and Hamlet on audible. I adore Macbeth and really can't wait to get stuck into it as it sounds so creepy and amazing. http://www.audible.com/pd/Classics/Ma...

I have never read Hamlet although I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Not sure if I want to listen to it before I read it but we'll see how it goes!

As for rules...
I think if you buy books for your e-reader, they shouldn't count because, in all seriousness, half the time I forget I've bought them--and they take up no physical room.
Another exception to the rules would be if you've bought a second-hand book, especially if you bought a second-hand book from a charity shop or at the local library's annual book sale...anything where the proceeds will go for a good cause. Because in that case, you really aren't buying a book, you're really being a good community member and contributing to some common good.

There are a few of us on here who have e-readers. I have a kindle, a Kobo, a mini ipad, and an iphone. I tend to forget I have ebooks and I'd rather buy a physical book. I know there are others in GRI who as guilty as I am of preferring physical books.

Given that my BBB doesn't include memoirs or auttobiographies, today in our local supermarket I bought Anger is an Energy: My Life Uncensored by John Lydon and A Work In Progress by Carl Franta, who I've never heard of, but whose book I know is an award winner. At £7 for the pair, they were practically giving them away anyway...
