It was tough resisting temptation in December, but I think that I just about managed to survive! ;-)

Oh dear, thanks to the Amazon sale and some tokens I have put Kevin and others in the shade. I'll upload them bit by bit and you can catch them in my updates. There were some irresistible books from around the world and having the Goodreads site to hand stopped me buying an insane amount. I will get through many of them soon as I'm having an operation in mid-January, not serious and not worrying but I will be off my feet for a while with lots of reading time :)
By the sounds of things, you've had a successful morning's shopping, Theresa! I look forward to seeing the titles appearing via the update feed. :)
Here is a list of books I got for Christmas:The Pen Friend by Ciaran Carson
Academy Street by Mary Costello
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Crow Blue by Adriana Lisboa
Outrage by Arnaldur Indriðason
Memory Wall by Anthony Doerr
The Shell Collector: Stories by Anthony Doerr
The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears by Mark Batterson
Wayfaring Strangers: The Musical Voyage from Scotland and Ulster to Appalachia
Strangest Genius: The Stained Glass of Harry Clarke by Lucy Costigan
Three Irish books, one Scots-Irish American ono-fiction book, one Brazilian novel, one mystery, two short story collections, one spiritual book, and one American novel. Great variety!
Here on Kindle The Miniaturist is $5.99 but I will keep my eyes on the price as it's one I want to read.
Great list Allan! And I'll look forward to your list Theresa.

Kevin, I love the pic. So...are those all on your TBR list for 2015 or are those the ones you've already read?
A mixture of both Cathleen. I've read everything besides the middle pile and a odd few scattered here and there. I can't say there is any system to it :)Feck off Allan and your library! haha :P
At the rate you're going, Kevin, by the time you're my age, your library will need to be the size of Trinity's to house all your books...
I might have to give up my studies to maintain my addiction, Allan. Maybe I can make a living by letting my future library open to the public :)
Emma wrote: "Kevin just get a full time job in a bookshop and have them pay you in books"In an ideal world Emma :(
We really would be better off if the currency was a different kind of paper. :)
Kevin, by the looks of your piles of books, there's not enough large print Maeve Binchy or James Patterson for it to function as a library-well, that seems to be all my library up here stocks anyway.
Kevin I spend hours fussing over the order and height of my books, can't believe you just have them fecked on top of each other!!
Trelawn - I always say it makes my hair hurt:) Kevin - I imagine you may have family members or relatives who would not be happy if you ended up burying the Sacred Heart behind books.
There are serious crimes against books being commited there Kevin. With the care and attention myself and Trelawn give to every book we buy it just grates on me to see those poor books suffering
What can I do!! They were stacked neatly in front of the tele until yesterday when I eventually had to move them so my niece could watch Frozen :) I assure you all, no books were harmed in the making of that image. I might have creased a Dan Brown cover but who cares about that one. It can be tinder for tomorrow's fire. :)
First of all, let me say this, Allan. I remember no supposed book moratorium and I have the gray hairs to prove it. I showed my kids the list of books you just bought and one of my sons and he said, you mean there's more than one of you out there. They were flabbergasted I got four books.Heather, I am so glad my book obsession doesn't go to the lengths of worrying about the heights etc of books. I understand Paul and Trelawn because they have some expensive ones including cloth bound ones but for the average book I am quite careless. I have one in my purse and one by the bathtub. I eat with them in my lap so I can read them at the same time. I read them while I brush my teeth. My books are warriors. :)
Kevin, your pile is impressive but it's a beginners. I have over a 100 unread books. I have books in bookcase, in cardboard boxes and piled on the floor to my housekeeper's consternation. One day, when I grow up, I will have a library like Allan or when I get my 32 year old son to move out.
Oh Susan, my heart weeps to hear that! Need to start a society for the protection of books!
For simple reads I buy hardbacks. All else I seek out in first edition, limited print, cloth bound and so on so I shan't be treating them with anything less than the tender loving care they deserve.
Books I wish to eat with or bring travelling I usually own in hardback and paperback so as to preserve one unblemished for my shelves.
I'm at 700 hardback books at the moment, built up in the last 18 months so my 'library' is only a fledgling. Every purchase has its place on a shelf though and I have about 400 or so unread :D
I read a paperback in the bath a few years ago and it genuinely melted into the bath. I didn't own the book either so I was less than impressed. Bathroom is a no go for me.

Sounds like a wonderful collection Heather☺ I do enjoy adding the rarer editions and they are definitely well taken care of ☺

To Susan. My son moved out this spring. He turned 42 this summer. Good luck

Paul wrote: "Do you not have shelves . Ikea might be worth a visit"There is no more space in my home for shelves, though I am considering swapping out some furniture in my bedroom, and putting my desk in the office/yarn room closet to make more space.
That just made me laugh, Barbara. Heaven forbid you put the books in the closet. No, it's got to be the desk. :)
Oh, Susan. There was one house we lived in and as as we knew we weren't going to be there long it wasn't worth doing much to it. We bought lots of bookcases, and we were very pleased to find that two of the built in wardrobes (closets) fitted the tall bookcases very nicely. However guests were taken aback when they found there was nowhere to hang their clothes.
Theresa, to go the other way re wardrobes, my brother in law and sister (some people call them Barbie and Ken due to their appearance) were telling us on Thursday that they have just turned their study into a walk in wardrobe (for him as she already has one!). Needless to say, she never caught the reading bug, she maintains because my mum was too busy by the time she came along to take her to the library!
Very funny, Allan, but sad too that 'Barbie' doesn't enjoy the pleasure from reading. The world would be a dull place if we were all the same.
On another thread somewhere you mentioned your partner's success in getting your Sky box replaced. That was impressive!

Ooh Gavin if you haven't read the previous 5 you should do so before! Sansom really builds up the character! Some of my favourite historical fiction.
Oh I didn't read what you said properly. Jesus you really made the most of the sale! Were books 1-5 on sale? I'm missing two from my collection!

Susan- I will get rid of the desk which is there for my printer and gets little use and put a 'shelf' in the closet as a desk. Then I can have a chair for reading, and/or knitting. The room has my 2 obsessions - my books and my yarn.
Theresa - a friend convinced me to change my 'guest' room to a yarn room.
Allan- I rarely have sleep over guests and only could fit a single bed in the space without getting rid of the bookcases. So an air mattress is the best I can do in there now. I forgot about closet space for guests but they shouldn't be staying so long they need closet space.

I went to Politics and Prose and even though their computer said they had the new Heaney Selected Poems 1988-2013, it was on hold for someone. Probably one of my friends - grrrrrr. And the distributor is OUT for 2 more weeks. I also couldn't get the wall calendar (or any) that I liked. They didn't have the CD I wanted either (I wasn't surprised as Christmas is over). But I bought some Christmas cards on sale, An Officer and a Spy in paperback, and Feed, a YA novel. I just got the Heaney, calendar I wanted, and the CD from Barnes and Noble for about $5 less than Amazon. And that was even though I paid local sales tax which Amazon usually doesn't charge. I don't mind the sales tax as they go to my state.
