you will xD we aren't reading them in a row so you'll probably really pass us. we're reading one every few weeks

Ah yeah cool :) We're reading in publication order as well. We could probably start Clockwork Angel around the 28th as well if you wanted XD

You swear right Amber! Man everyone I know who's read this series still hates her.
I'm 54% through City of Glass. Read 140 pages last night so that's really good :) (view spoiler)

So I'm definitely not getting City of Glass finished by tomorrow, which is when my next challenge section starts, so this'll be on hold for probably another 11 days :/

I'm blaming this book for the fact that I now want to watch Gilligan's island.

I think the problem is that I'm not sure if I hate Clary or not. I do however think she's an idiot and wish she'd use more brain power than instantly react whenever something happens to be afoot.
She's just so annoying I wish she'd use her brain. You see more of her stupidity in City of Glass.

:( Oh no! That sucks that you aren't enjoying it. It's one of my fave series (ever). Clary is super frustrating, though.
I just hate her, yeah. I like the rest of it, but the fact that it revolves around her all the time and her decisions is just stupid.

If you don't like her; you're in luck, the second trilogy spans out more (especially CoFA, but sadly brace yourself as she and Jae are... pretty prominent characters in TMI D: )
Second trilogy? You mean TID? I've read Clockwork Angel because, and in that Will annoys me too. He's basically the exact copy of Jace. And Tessa of Clary, especially as they both have red hair! At least Jem isn't Alec.

Well no, sometimes Cassie refers to her series like this:
(CoB, CoA, CoG) is her first trilogy in TMI. Bc that's how she originally wrote them.
Then (CoFA, CoLS, CoHF) are her second trilogy, within the series of TMI.
THEN there's her prequel trilogy, TID. Instead of writing a second trilogy in TID, she's made it it's own, which is the Lost Hours I believe?? (It hasn't come out yet).
And finally, her most recent in development is her TDA series. Lady Midnight came out, and now we are waiting for Lord of Shadows.
There will be 1 more trilogy after that, apparently, in the Shadowhunter Chronicles universe (see her blog/website), and as you can see-- all but TMI have 1 trilogy within their series. I'm sorry this has gotten so compicated-- if I had visuals, it would help. Basically TMI wasn't supposed to get more but then she did to link up with the prequels, which bridged over to the sequel TDA.
Personally, I prefer to read them in the chronological order of setting, rather than publication, because although Cassie makes up new clues in every corresponding trilogy (they're all linked except for the original TMI trilogy), it impacts more for me when you see the family trees grow. I guess you can see that through the other method, but the back and forth doesn't bring the greatest build up IMO. I would get too confused. Good on you for trying that though. But as you can see, things can get pretty complex.
I'd even suggest doing them in the trilogy set. Like do: TMI (1), TID, TMI (2), TDA.
But I'm assuming you're going to read more, and I can see that may be a struggle if you don't like the characters :( But I TOTALLY get it, bc how you feel for them is how I feel for everybody in ToG.
Sorry for such a long response!
(Ps Tessa doesn't have really red hair, does she? I've always seen her as the usual brunette [oh well, doesn't matter haha]. And there may be a reason for why Jace and Will are so similar-- they do have the same angst, but I think Will is way more selfless and caring for loved ones [inc. parabatai, girls (minus the hookers at the beginning of the story), siblings/relatives, etc]).

So far, Lady Midnight has been my all-time fave. I think next would be TID. Just... the whole trilogy. It's perfect.
The only book I do not like from TMI really and truly is the first one; CoB. It is boring as and I don't like how it was written. But after that; it's uphill woohoo.

How can someone grin slightly??? Smile slightly, yeah, but grin slightly?
Oh god how I want to DNF this book! 40 pages from the end and I just can't stand it. (view spoiler)

Finished. This book took me around 2 months to read. I was just so intimidated by it. The size, the format, the font, the long chapters. Overall, the only thing making me read it was the fact that I'd already started the series, and the hype around it. Initially it started off as a 4 star, like the others, but gradually over the course of the book it got worse and worse. I hate Clary. That's about all I want to say. *Beware potential rage coming* Her selfishness, her almighty conscious, the fact she is so spoiled and thinks that she can do anything, and the fact that she can only fuels her brattiness. She is so petty, she thinks she deserves whatever she wants, but then when she doesn't get it she throws a tantrum and gets it anyway, while making everyone else feel bad when everything goes well because of her. (view spoiler) I wanted to DNF this book right then, because I just couldn't believe it. I had to put the book down, right a mini rage like this in my buddy read thread, and then take deep breaths because it was just so unbelievable. She even went through in her head all of the things she could have wished for, and she chose that. The one thing that didn't change the world for anyone else, only made her feel better. She is so stupid. And annoying. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, as it's been many a conversation on aforementioned buddy read thread.
Sorry for that long rage about my most hated MC ever, but I just needed to get it out to everyone how I hate her. I just hate her. Not looking forward to the rest of the series :/

But I am a huge Clave shipper so her choices (including the major one at the end) were the most epic of epic things (but the context was, I was much younger, and didn't have the knowledge of any following books to exist and I didn't know if they were after all, related)-- it was the epitome of passion! But like I said, being younger, I didn't have a great amount to compare.
I just feel so sad you didn't enjoy it! And that it took you 2 months. That sucks! A book is different for everyone, and I respect your opinion. (But I secretly wish you adore the series as much as I do, but of course, that's… rarer[?]).
I was intimidated by the chapter sizes too. After reading TID, I really enjoyed how Cassie sets up novels and I love huge chapters. As long as its about the characters I enjoy the company of. Because it's inevitable in any series with as many characters as Cassie has created in the Shadowhunter Realm; you're not going to like them all. You may think you do, to a degree, but when there's a life or death situation unravelling, ie all the time, I want to kill her for long chapters with subplots (cough cough Simon in the first 3 books BYEEE).
I felt invited and encouraged to read more through her format, but that may just be me. Through her books, I found my flow and speed for reading (which is quite fast), and how she writes completes my tempo. Obviously for you, it doesn't. I totally get it-- I would probably resonate that situation with Throne of Glass.
I really, really hope you enjoy the next trilogy. A whole bunch of new characters appear! And they're more diverse and there's a lot of downworlder business. Clary certainly matures in the next 3 books; but her nativity sticks (guess it's a character ploy)-- but you'll see why. A certain deceiving bastard plays mind games, and her cliche romance with Jace is in jeopardy (all day, everyday, sister!)-- so I'm sorry in advanced if you pursue these and hate them :( they're my fave. I really love the characters, they're my best friends. I think I put up with Clary bc Jace is a fave of mine. I do enjoy Clary's special rune ability, though. Although it seems silly at the start, there's some great ways it's incorporated in CoFA especially (to do with Simon). It's pretty well developed, and makes a cameo or two in Lady Midnight, nothing major, but it's awesome how well Cassie has developed it within the world.
Anyways, as you can see, I can talk on and on. I really love the series! There are some super boring bits, at least the first time around, but I found I enjoyed it more the second time reading. I think you realise how far the characters grow and you get into the swing of Cassie's format and writing.
Good luck with the future books!! If you dare...
Is anyone reading this series still?
Yeah but we're not reading the next one (Clockwork Angel) until the 24th :) And we've made another thread for it because we got confused. Only Nicole and I are, I think. No idea where everyone else went.
