Matt I bought this book a while ago and just started to read it and was really struck by the sparse writing style. All my friends who recommended it said it was full of amazing descriptions that really put you in the book. One friend also said it was really long. Then I looked up the product details online. The book is supposed to be 448 pages - mine is 260 with no pages missing. It says enriched classics; and on the opening page says it was edited by professors from NYU and Yale. Did I buy a bad version of this? My book has a dark cover with a different picture on it. It was published in 1981 by Washington Square Press. Can anyone give me some advise?

April You bought the wrong book dude! You need to read the original unedited version. The professors cut out all the good stuff!

Connie Well, I don't know if anyone will see this post... but now I'm really confused. I have a regular softcover version that is 357 pages long---which I think probably translates to around 448 pages for the mass market version. The (c) of my edition was renweed in 1958 and there is no mention of any edits, though it is a WSP book. It's got a yellow-orangey cover and a Chinese woman in a kimono on the front. I loved this book regarless, but if I missed anything I really want to know. Thanks!

Beverley First Printing of this book was in 1931. I have the 1936 version which has 375 pages. But it all depends on size of book and font.

Joanne Moyer I first read The Good Earth in high school ~ MANY years ago but I always remembered liking it. When I saw that it was being released as an ebook in August I got it to read again and absolutely loved it. I would hope that this is the original version, It didn't seem to be missing anything. I was also surprised to see that it is the first in a trilogy so I then read the second one and really enjoyed it too. I'm taking a small break before reading the last one

Kathryn I have the full version and loved it. I passed it on to my sister. But seeing all the discussion I may want to read it again.

Kathryn Joanne - thank you. I am going to check into these books as well.

Daniel enriched classic:

timeline of historic events
outline
detailed notes
critical analysis
discussion questions
recommended books
it's not shortened or parts deleted.

Carmelita one of the best i ever read. This book took me to a new place.

Holly A book I probably never would have read if it hadn't been for my Nobel Prize Authors class. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it is on my list to re-read.
