Kate suffers from what appears to be PTSD and has the ADHD disorder. She uses origami and knitting to control her anxieties. Given all this, should she be on duty and out in the field?

It seems that she is in a situation where her colleagues give her the latitude to function with these crutches, and her contributions are valued.

She functions just fine when she is in the field, engaged and involved. It is only when she has to sit through a meeting that her duel tract mind can go off tract.

Good point. There wasn't a single instance where it flared up in the field.

Probably not.. but it works for the story's purpose.

I accepted in in this case and agree with Anita that she appears okay when her mind and body are fully engaged. It's during her idle times that she appears to need busy work. Her friends and co-workers seem to accept it as okay. And some want her to teach them one or the other! haha I thought it gave this story a "human touch" - a little something to soften some of the dark content. And given what she went through, it's no surprise she needs to keep a busy mind.
