I've never read that author but perhaps you might be interested in

as well as some of her other books. I've only read the first of the Cazalet chronicles but it's exactly as you describe, old-fashioned upper middle class British life, detailed meal descriptions, family sagas, children and parents and grandparents interacting, adultery here and there. The one I read was set in the 30s and presumably they progress chronologically.

Divas Don't Knit is the first book in a trilogy, using a modern setting that sounds like it might be similar to what you are looking for. Be warned though--this particular book has had 2 or 3 different titles. Gil McNeil has several other books (some stand alones, others not) that might also be what you are looking for. I haven't read all of her other books, but the ones I've read I've liked.
Check out Angela Thirkell, who wrote and published the Barsetshire chronicles from the 1930s to the 1960s. Upper crusty family life. I've only read one of them.

She also has a handful of standalone novels.

Excellent Women. It's set in London in the early 50s but it's very neighborhoody, almost a small town or village feel, and there are lots of meals involving rationing. Also lots and lots of tea.
